Cliffhanger doesn't have much tension. The last two were the Beyond reveal and hype for who might be the bodyguards. It really feels like something that isn't supposed to be left hanging for very long.
Togashi is trying to get back into shape. Self-explanatory.
The art. It wasn't really deteriorating, and it wasn't as high quality as the vol 33 run (which obviously burned out Togashi quickly.)
The timing. He neatly ended things with another volume rather than stopping short like last time.

Add it all up, and this feels more like a normal break rather than some great hiatus caused by crippling back pain. I can't say exactly when it'll be back, but I'm pretty sure it's not going to take years.

I was never in touch with studios, VA, directors, etc. so I don't know about that stuff or what is the best animation studio right now.
Having come back to anime only recently and never being much of a person that does what everyone is doing for the sake of it (meaning, I don't know the general consensus of my opinions), I'd say the studio that made the Fate/Zero/Stay UBW and the One Punch Man adaptations. The fight scenes really impressed me on those.

Kill La Kill's studio as well.

But this is just in animation. These series I mentioned, with the exception of Fate are kinda well lit and their characters don't go through the kind of composition that Togashi does. The kind that a character's emotion and action translates into the manga as background.

For example, 2011's adaptation of Hisoka's various displays of bloodlust lose their effect because Togashi basically disappears with the whole background, shifts his entire style into one that turns slight shadows that passes on a person's face when they want to do something bad, as if the character entered a portal to a darkly word that lits only their face from a upwards angle.

I think the real challenge of this place is successfully navigating it. Brion seems to only kill everyone when it thinks people are threatening its city. It's primarily a defensive system.

The "labyrinthine" part is where this becomes a problem. Not to mention there are probably tons of actions that Brion could view as "threatening" because it's the fucking Dark Continent, and nobody has a tourist guide. Certain gestures, moving too quickly, talking too loudly, using nen or certain forms of it, unintentionally ignoring warnings that are in an alien language, and such. Here are some of the possible conditions listed for the general B grade ferocity, which was applied to Brion.
