Casts in both have their share of good characters and shit ones, the FTEs in 2 were a lot better though
The core plots in both are absolutely fucking retarded, DR2 self-acknowledges it more which some people will like whereas others won't
DR2 had some crappy gameplay mechanics like "improved" hangman, but also fixed DR1's case summaries which was hands down the most egregious gameplay feature in the series so it's about it even on that front in my opinion

I reckon that if the player had any chance at all to interact with the actual Junko earlier on, people would have less of an issue with it. Her FTEs and the conversation about her different appearance (that was explained away with reasoning more convincing than what the actual truth ended up being, honestly) was foreshadowing - this doesn't have to conflict with it being considered a copout by people. It's considered a cop-out because a lookalike character had to be created and hidden for most of the game just to explain how things happened, as opposed to the percieved character actually doing it themselves. I said earlier that it isn't the set-up that bothers people but the actual nature of the plot twist, it's never going to not be seen as a lazy alternative to other possibilities they could've gone for in any story.

Nah, I'm pretty certain that this isn't the case. This is the sort of genre where people like to be outsmarted by the plot. There are other hard-to-see and more intricately planned out plot twists in this series that people seem to be fine with. I genuinely feel it's just people having an inherant dislike for this type of plot twist and it's not something specific to DR, like I said it's the type of plot twist that's frowned upon in general.
