what if touma was a girl? and everyone else was still the same??? how different would the index/touma dynamic work, would touma hang out with misaka and the gang? would he have a different personality? lots of potential.

Well, they would not be in love with female Touma but it's entirely possible their characters could still center around how they feel about female Touma. Those feelings just wouldn't be romantic.

For example, Mikoto might still be desperate to catch up with female Touma, but it'd likely be "I can't let her steal my thunder" or "I really owe her this" or even "she's the only one I'd ever want to consider a friend/rival"
