Old anime ends on the Eclipse, which is end of volume 13 (ch. 87) movies go a chapter or so beyond. New anime starts with chapter 1, then it will presumably jump straight to end of volume 16. Volumes 4-13 are Golden Age ark. If you're going to read the manga, read all of it, they skipped a ton of stuff in the anime and movies.

The episode was actually really cool and the CG was not nearly as bad as people are saying.
It isn't even bad honestly, it looks kind of cool with the hatched shading. The bandits look like shit, the one frame with the old man and girl in the carraige looks bad, and some still frames in mid animation look jank, but thats all nitpicking and you fuckers are just going to hate regardless. Half of the CG in this episode looked better than the CG from the films which all was flat as hell.

If I remember correctly, Sidonia didn't try to hybridize 2D and 3D, it stuck with 3D the whole way.
This Berserk however is trying to do a hybrid route. It wouldn't be bad if not for the fact the hand drawn areas, though few, look tremendously better than the more abundant CG.

The Sidonia fans did, and that's mainly due to the CG, while being floaty, captured the feel of Nihei's manga by showing ARCHITECTURE and keeping the character designs close to the original, not to mention it didn't feel that artificial given all the mechanical stuff in it. Plus it stuck with 3D the whole way, and used good shading.

Berserk on the other hand, has had its artstyle and character designs shat upon, it's floaty despite not being floaty, and it's just not made for CG. The "shading" is lines all over everything, which just makes it look extremely lazy, instead of using regular shading. Not to mention the CG studio is awful, unlike Sidonia's.

Different settings, different atmosphere. CGI fits the sanitized and sci-fi look of Sidonia and didn't actually try to go hybrid on us. In Berserk 2016 it really just feels like the show had no budget at all and went for CGI out of necessity rather than choice. There's clearly no effort put into it, either: shit shading, backgrounds straight out of a 2003 ps2 game, no attention to the colors etc.

There's a difference between good and bad CGI, and Sidonia is the former while Berserk 2016 is clearly the latter.
