New Gundam series will announce at July 12.
GBF sucked shit as a children's anime because appealing to oveaged collectors undermined all its attempts at normal good messages to kids. And there was only pandering in their place.
Also it says shinsaku but also 商品発売 (merchandise release).
Unless it's Reconguista movies I really doubt it's Tomino.
I haven't seen anything besides from that Yaraon article a month ago. Yaraon isn't that reliable and I assume if it was legit there would have been some confirmation since then.
GUNDAM RED LIGHT
>Anime series about Zeon chicks who worked in brothels before the war. Now they need to fight Feddie scum virgins young soldiers in pink Zakus as Slut Squad. After battle they also comfort proud soldiers of Zeon with their bodies
Will we ever get more late-UC Anime?
Unless you're talking about TRY, GBF actually WAS good. Surprisingly so. I didn't give it time of day until last year on a lark because I got back into gunpla, and the first iteration is surprisingly well written even if it's at its heart a generic action/friendship shonen series. Possibly because it was written with a definitive "end" in sight (unlike stretching into the infinite, like Jump shonen), by people who liked gundam.
gundam seed isnt complete garbage though
wow another Gundam series, I'm sure this one won't be exactly the same as all the others
Give me a new G Gundam series, Sunrise.
If the franchise wants genuine success with an AU story ever again then they're going to have to clone 00. Get a solid character designer, make the cast big and varied, get a writer who can put out something linear and easy to follow, and pile on the homolust.
It's not going to fucking work otherwise, that's just the reality of the situation. Anything else is just throwing money off a cliff and hoping it somehow comes flying back at them.
IBO has already been officially announced, same with the extended thunderbolt material and Try OVA. This is specifically something "new".
I would say either something completely new, BF S3 (could become a semi-regular thing to air a bf series alongside other gundam series to target the child market), or Frozen Teardrop.
>GBF actually WAS good
I understand if it appeals to the inner child-like wonder you feel for mecha, or specifically Gundam, but to categorize this collage of cliches based in something as asinine as fighting tournaments involving children's toys as something "good" is beyond me. It has nothing of worth to say that's revealed through its events and does it exactly as you would expect.
>It has nothing of worth to say that's revealed through its events and does it exactly as you would expect.
I don't see how that's bad though. It was marketed as a children's toy marketing show. It accomplished it's goal story-wise
Nobody said that 00 was the most successful AU series, but it was their last big AU success in the modern age. This is owed entirely to its cast, which was well-designed and well-utilized for the most part.
The fact of the matter is that political intrigue doesn't have mass appeal, especially among anime's current fanbase. Good character dynamics, on the other hand, can take a series really far. 00 managed to stick a bunch of appealing relationships into what wasn't really a strong storyline and it blew the fuck up, so that's the aspect they need to replicate if they want to see success again with an AU.
I'd be down for a female protagonist in Gundam honestly. A qt tomboy preferably.
The graze kits are excellant. Easily one of ebikawa's best designs and the kits are extremely well engineered. The best is probably the 1/100 custom/ground type the just came out.
>The graze kits are excellant. Easily one of ebikawa's best designs and the kits are extremely well engineered
Why are you so fucking upset that 00 is being regarded as a success? If memory serves, 00 is one of the highest selling original anime in the last decade or so. This is such a weird thing to get mad about.
>The one they showed off from next season
If you're talking about the Asteroths, those are from a side manga. Same with Fedora Hyakuren and the custom Rodi's. We don't have any S2 designs yet.
I'm looking forward to the inevitable Graze II.
>I don't see how that's bad though.
Stories are firstly about communicating, hopefully something worth telling, meaning it does poorly at the basic idea of what a story is. The real worth of a story. It did its job as an advertisement for toys, but I'm not judging it based on that. It indulges in a bunch of established narrative tropes in Gundam and fighting tournament anime aimed at kids, that's about it.
>It did its job as an advertisement for toys, but I'm not judging it based on that. It indulges in a bunch of established narrative tropes in Gundam and fighting tournament anime aimed at kids, that's about it.
But I'm still not seeing how that's bad? It's a toyetic tournament series. There's hundreds of those. You going to call them bad too?
00 didn't do as well as SEED but not much of anything else since SEED did and if 18th and 25th highest selling series of post 2000 is considered bad, then this entire industry might as well go belly-up
Macross Frontier and Geass aren't Gundam AUs so I have no idea why they're even being brought up except out of a strange, misplaced sense of asshurt over 00 being Gundam's last big AU success.
Don't respond to the shitposter anon.
Not him, but going by the context, it's obvious that him talking about Seed would entail Seed Destiny. Since we're talking about AUs, it doesn't make sense to counter Seed by saying Seed Destiny since they're both part of Cosmic Era. Yes, saying Cosmic Era is more accurate, but again, going by the context, it's pretty damn obvious and you're just not very good at reading comprehension.
I have no idea why the fuck people deny this when it's common knowledge. It's still in the top 20 even with adaptations included, and my original post had just mentioned it being one of the highest-selling original anime of the last decade or so.
Okay, but that's still not relevant to anything when the topic was 00 being the last real success Gundam had with an AU series.
Nobody is saying those shows weren't successful either or that they didn't do better than 00. The issue here is that you seem to think that 00 was a financial failure just because it did not do as well as them when that couldn't be futher from the case
Nobody said it was a failure but its sucess is exaggerated and to say that every AU needs to follow its example is just dumb. SEED and 00 came out during a time where mecha anime was still a thing on people's minds and where the economy wasn't complete shit now its all about idols and mecha anime is condidered passe for potential buyers so its harder to sell. Gargantia is still the best sell mecha anime of the decade at 9.7k.
Wing really doesn't stand up at all on rewatch. The characters are wildly inconsistent, the plot jumps aren't and doesn't make sense half the time, the pacing in the beginning is terrible, and it has plot armor out the ass topped only by Seed.
Katoki was in top form though and some of my favorite gundams are from Wing. The sountrack was nice too and Zechs before he quit OZ was a fun character.
When does Wing get good? I'm 5 episodes in and bored out of my mind, besides a few bizarrely hilarious scenes, like Relena yelling out at the ocean for Heero to come and kill her
>Nobody said it was a failure but its sucess is exaggerated
Is it really though? It sold a lot of discs, had a movie and unlike SEED Destiny, actually had people buy it's kits instead of just the protagonist's
>and to say that every AU needs to follow its example is just dumb.
Well I don't know if they need to exactly follow 00's example but other than the UC OVAs, it was the last one to get over 10k average just in general
And the thing is, nobody even denied that SEED did better than 00. Literally the only point being made here is that chronologically, as in going by the date on our physical calendars, 00 is the most recent hit that the franchise had AU-wise.
Would anyone here like to argue that 00 aired after SEED did or are we done being mad at nothing?
>but its sucess is exaggerated
It averaged nearly 40k per volume. Do you think this is an easy feat for an original anime? Why do you want to discredit that so badly? Moreover, why do you seem resistant to the idea that good character dynamics can take a series to the top?
G-Reco: Chuchumy's Counterattack.
AGE put Sunrise in a seriously awful financial situation and basically was met with crickets in terms of a larger audience. IBO was more warmly received, but still didn't have quite the viewership that 00 managed to pull.
I'd say AGE is a complete failure. IBO isn't, but it's not a heavy-hitter either.
>One flop putting sunrise in a serious financial situation
Hahaha no. Sunrise is way too huge for that. And the gunpla sold mediocre (except the AG line which flopped and pretty much killed the 1/144 ng concept). And especially not in the year that Unicorn was making more money than a man who discovered how to transmute dirt into gold bars. Iirc the gundam franchise even INCREASED its profit that year. Age was a flop but it was far from ever dealing a serious blow to Sunrise.
I seem to recall an interview where AGE's commercial failure was outlined as having nearly bankrupted Studio 3 specifically (rather than Sunrise itself; my mistake), but since I can't find it at the moment I'm happy to take your word for it.
Unintentionally hilarious for the entire segment where people are being attacked by killer trucks.
Couldnt see shit going on during the final fight back then, I should find a proper rip and rewatch sometime. Show was always building up to something greater than earth but I expected spacenoids not aliens. Was pretty meh all around. I did like the mech design of the new CB MS.
AGE was a good idea but as about 99% of Japanese stuff that seem to utilize the "generation system" they fuck up real badly and funny enough the follow the same patterns
1st Generation the true MC of the story
2nd Generation flawed guy that gets shafted pretty quickly
3rd Generation super duper gary stu guy that would suck your dick if you asked him nicely because its mean to say no.
>having nearly bankrupted Studio 3 specifically
Practically every Gundam side story ever you get to the mid point and it takes a turn for complete garbage. It's tradition by this point
despite all that its still among the better ones
>the long haired girl that used to be MC's sempai turns into a crazy cyber-newtype
Four was a mistake
Well at least he was not some retard that was shouting constantly now the fact that they had him killed in the absolute dumbest way in Gundam history and that they went absolutely no where whatsoever with him is another story.
But in the end TL:DR enough with the Four clone bullshit
Four had a hard life don't bully her
Goddamit she looked like a bro.
They need to do a SEED if they really want that fujomoney, although it would be really nice to get an Astray series or some expansion of Stargazer
Or they can GET OFF THEIR ASSES AND FINALLY ANIMATE CROSSBONE AND GAIA GEAR
This, SEED's world was extremely interesting if you've read some of the materials showing things that were going on in the background.
The series could've had GOAT tier world building if they actually used any of its expanded universe materials.
>Junk Guild and Lowe are fanfiction tier shit though
How? All they really did was go on random adventures and stuff, I den't remember them being apart of much other than saving Kira after the strike exploded.
Or was this in the new Astray run?
>they actually used any of its expanded universe materials.
The original back story to SEED is pretty interesting it's just that Fukuda decided not to virtually implement any of it within the show.
They pull so much bullshit out of their asses it's not even funny.
That one >>143547079 links? It's supposed to explain how the fuck Kira survived blowing himself up. He doesn't die because
his seat absorbed the blast. Yeah the melted smashed to shit seat stopped the Explosion and no mention of him
having the cockpit exposed during the fight.
Then Lowe who survived the huge ass explosion in his lightly armored Astray by
CUTTING THE EXPLOSION WITH HIS 100000000000 TIMES FOLDED SUPER KATANA. finds Kira unconcious and takes him to a
nearby place to get him some medical help but instead of taking Kira to a hospital the blind priest running the orphanage insists on
sending Kiras wounded ass into space because Lacus wanted to see him.
(I'm assuming she ment alive but with this idiot priest i dunno)
Lowe then instead of taking the wounded pilot to away and to actual medical help then just goes along with it.
Add into the fact Astray get's worse the longer it goes on? Yeah bad idea but hey it could be worse they could use the 00 side stories.
Because Lowe is a stupid Gary Stu who forces himself into every other story giving out unique OC donut steel suits everywhere.
Everything surrounding the Junk guild is fanfiction tier. Maybe i've going overboard and but this surely counts for Lowe. Lowe has the Astray, super sharp katanas, a mars suit, also energy draining, a super advanced Voiture Lumiere more advance than the one the organization that created it at the same time when the organization was at testing phase. This fanfiction transcends even series like when Lowe turned Mirage Colloid to GN particles to put on his donut steel suit.
Maybe i'm somewhat exaggerating but i have some basis.
