The story essentially starts going to shit the moment Alisha's leaves, but that has nothing to do with Alisha herself, though there are signs that it started becoming bad from early on.

First of all they need to stop Lailah from stopping Sorey from getting personally involved in any of the side quests, with that out of the way they need to make sure that the side quests some satisfying endings. Alisha's replacement storyline wise shouldn't have been Rose but rather Sergei. Sergei should have been allowed to travel with you to Goddouin to meet the Pope, and then call him out on his bullshit, while pointing out to the party that ignoring a problem won't make it go away. Sergei is forced to take a stand and Sorey and the Seraph actually take that to heart. When you find out about Maltran Alisha is back in your party, and it actually goes somewhere, and Alisha decides not the take the bullshit any longer.

Have the lord of the Land quests be main quests, and to see all of them through till the very end, they should all have some type of resolution.

Fix up the back story for the game, allow you to get more invested with the world. I would even change how malevolence works, because even the Nips believe that it's bullshit.

Rose was so shoddily added in that if you try to fix the story of Zestiria, then she actually doesn't fit, and in many ways will just stand out like a sore thumb, worse than Dezel.

It would make sense if he was more important, since that would essentially make the first part of the game about stopping the biggest cause of Malevolence in the continent, which was the war. However, Dezel's story itself is convoluted, with the only way being how to fix it is to remove it entirely. You remove Dezel's story you remove Rose's entire reason for being with the group. I think that's one of the last 4 optional bosses so it probably needed a stun to land an MA. That's why it took so long. The damage was probably made with Lailah/Sorey MA + Fairax x2 + Faira x 10 + Rangus x 8 + High A. ATK + High ATK

Fairax = 8x Damage (on one or two hits since 20% chance activating per hit)
Faira = +100% Damage
Rangus = +160% Damage

That's definitely a 3-4th time playthrough too. The skill system is so fucking broken in Zestiria.

Anon, like others pointed out, it wasn't a fanfic, Rose was changed into the main heroine last minute. For all your Rosefagging she wasn't meant to be the heroine originally. All those scenes of the characters calling Alisha useless, were only added in when Rose became the heroine.

I say that often but with Zestiria I really mean it, I'd usually play a Tales game when I feel like playing something button-mashy and rarely pay attention to the plot or characters because they suck. With Zestiria I was actually liking the characters and the "arthurian" flare peaked my interest. Hell, I haven't liked Fujishima's designs since Phantasia, but I still think Sorey's outfit is really sweet (Inomata's characters can jump off a cliff though).

This is frustrating because this means this is the first time I'm legit frustrated at a Tales game. Like I said, I was liking the setting, but the game was just boring to play, and that's a big red sign. Tales games only saving grace is usually their combat system, but Zestiria's is just, bad. I mean, I want to come up with something more eloquent but no, I can't, it is bad. Who the fuck authorized that convoluted skill system? Jesus Christ, I've played WRPG's where you had to read fucking entire rulebooks just to make a character and I still find that skill system baffling. Doesn't help that the in-game explanations don't really explain anything. The equipment system is also more complicated than it needs to be, a streamlined upgrade system on a Tales game seemed like a neat idea, until you try to optimize the bloody thing, synergizing it with the idiotic mess that was the skill system was annoying.

The whole waifu wars doesn't even matter because I didn't even reach the point where Rose joins you. The game became a bog during that haunted house (Funny, I also dropped Abyss after the haunted house). Though I must say I liked Alisha's design better than Rose's, except for the hair. The hair is stupid, but the cute/sexy knight thing she had going was nice
