It's actually worse with Shaft's touch. They take conversations that take 5 minutes tops to read, cut content and characterization out and spreads the resulting conversation out over several episodes. Just listening to an audiobook version of the novels with a photo slideshow of random scenery porn pulled off of google would produce a better effect than the anime does. The Kizu movies are Shaft's first attempt at actually attempting to adapt it to the anime format properly.

KyoAni probably would do a better job of it to be honest.

I mean, if you're arguing that Shaftfags are cancer, you're not going to find too much disagreement here. It's sort of a seperate issue to what's being discussed though.

The latter seasons are sorta hit-or-miss with their visual direction. Sometimes it was great, like with Ougi Formula, other times it was hilariously bad like with Hitagi End.

and yeah, visual direction (and a stacked VA cast) is all the anime has going over the LNs. Unless you absolutely don't like any of the characters at all (which is a fine opinion to have) I'm not sure why anyone would argue that the anime delivers the narrative better than the LNs do. Shaft tries to deliver the LNs word-for-word, but not only can they not do that and cut massive chunks out anyway, copy-pasting the LN text over to anime the way they do just doesn't work that well to begin with
