I like Freyja, but I'm starting to get sick of this because no one else really gets to shine. I wanted Delta squad to take down Keith as team to show their growth as a squad and not by having Freyja use song hacks on Hayate.

I'm really hoping the second half will move the buffs in a different direction, but I'm seriously doubting it since Freyja must always be the center of everything.

Taking out the particulars of the battle the format is almost exactly the same as the dogfight in episode 8: Pew pew, setup for the next episode, Hayate in trouble (again), Freyja starts singing, Hayate and his VF-31's fold crystals glow, Hayate flies amazingly and beats up Keith (Bogue in ep 8).

Mirage is Ranka tier that needed to find out shit indirectly while Freyja straight out asked him shit since they met. Their bond is far stronger than in episode 8 (which was stronger than episode 1). In there, Hayate could barely beat Bogue, here he's facing Keith and it's because of Freyja's resolve and their deepening bond with each others. It looks like whoever has Freyja's heart and attention would become some kind of wind god.

Mirage will probably get a brief moment to shine because they have actually been developing a character arc for her (which is more than most of the other characters, who just get "this is what this character is like" style characterization for the most part.) But after she gets it she'll probably promptly go back to being in the background for the rest of the series, hopefully she at least gets a full episode of it like Kaname did, but I wouldn't be surprised if Freyja upstages her in the climax episode of her own character arc. Either way she'll almost certainly fade back into the background after that.

Certainly possible. The reason I even consider Mikumo is that it makes narrative sense to get her out of the way, and they're probably not going to kill her off. And she has a long established habit of sacrificing herself for Freyja. I could totally see him targeting Freyja after ketchup drops or gets too weak to continue only to have her pushed out of the way at the last minute and end up with Mikumo as a captive instead.

Also Mikumo seems to be really fascinated with the ruins and the wind singer. There are plenty of reasons it would make sense for her to end up there.
