This show was really fun to watch with people who had a lot of nostalgia for RO, despite having not played it myself.

I'm glad it was a straight romance with a largely female cast rather than haremshit. Makes the relationship between characters feel more legitimate and from the heart than forced sexual tension.

I'd say "heart" describes what I feel from the show in general. Love for net games, love for its characters, and even a love for ecchi (in that it felt like something made by someone who likes ecchi, rather than -for- an ecchi audience). Liked it a lot, gave me a warm feeling after every episode.

Most games with a guild/guildwar system let's the guilds make/choose their own personal emblem/symbol, which will later on be plaster in every flag in a castle they can occupy.

I feel like Sakamoto at least managed to last a season without wearing itself out, mainly thanks to the 'infallible protagonist' formula not being used too often in comedy.

It is a problem though. A concept is all well and good, but you need to use that concept to develop enough interesting characters for an audience member to want to see more of while that concept is still fresh. Netoge floundered because it missed the opportunity to turn into a half-comedy half-romance before its comedy became stale.

The first half had a story, a problem to solve that had real relevance.
Second half does away with that entirely. Ako is "fixed" and now her hangups are only a joke.

Sure, this is mostly "just another" romantic comedy show. But having SOME drama helped it stand out.
It could have been more like Chuu2, but it gave up.

I did play RO back in the day and I do appreciate the references. But that doesn't fix the show.

I have to agree that after the halfway point of the season things got a bit muddled and directionless.

At first the direction seemed to be that they were going to teach Ako the difference between the game and real world. Then they seemed to forget about that, and the goal seemed to become getting Ako together with the male lead. But then it turns out that she always thought she already was with the male lead, so his confession was pointless. The bit about someone stealing his game identity -- and how this somehow separated him from Ako, at least in her addled brain -- had some potential, but they pretty much used it up in one episode. After they had their online "wedding," there wasn't much left for the show but a little fan service and playing the same (not terribly interesting) Ragnarok Online Ripoff.

Shut in resolution was sort of generic, MC gets with the retard instead of the pres, even though he's not that much of a basement dweller (by today's standards), as he goes out, sociable, not failing and no other clear signs of everything be fucked in his life beyond a few games. The marriage delusion was a strange one, given how shit at games she is for a shut in I'd have expected a sort of blog based shut in to be more appropriate. Conveniently MC makes friends with 80% of the female player base from a bad jrpg, and they all go to his school and range from rich upper class to shut in.

Will be forgotten in 6 months. Could have done many things different to either go drama or try resolving the 'issue' of her delusions a bit more involved than treating it like a phase where a few high schoolers could 'cure her'.
