It really went to shit after Kurono died for the first time. It improved slightly when Kurono was cloned so that the 'real' Kurono could stay with Tae who was annoying and useless as fuck while the clone could stay with the infinitely superior Reika, but Gantz never really recovered.

Ultimately a huge waste of time.

The ending sucks, it feels empty, an epilogue would have save it, but he never did it.

Gantz was never really good. Early volumes relied on edge and drama with little substance. It was pretty entertaining at first but nearly nothing changed for 30 volumes. Too much time spend in limbo and then it all turned into michael bay movie x10 only to be resolved in a few short infodumps.

At least action quality never drops.

I'm not sure it was ever hand drawn. But if it was, it stoped being pretty early - you can see it by textures on aliens and suits by like volume 10-13.
Backgrounds were photoshoped pretty early on as well.

It's just that CGI got messier and late volumes also had shit scans with loads of filters

The only problems with this manga are the ending (we did not get closure for most of the characters), the explanation of the mystery and the undercooked vampire plot. Everything else is great.

Kurono became Katou 2.0, but even more boring. A lot of unexplained shit (why did so many ayy lmaos want to colonize earth? Why send so few?). Katastrophe was an ok idea, but it was executed badly. The technology behind how the balls worked was never fully explained.
