The magic in this series is made out to be extremely overpowered, I had fun watching espers fight already and learning their back stories and now I learn they're all irrelevant because some magic God/Saint Yugioh bullshit is going on. The gap between magicians and espers does not take away from the characters and their stories, otherwise the series wouldn't still be going strong with a light novel, a manga adaptation, and two spinoff manga. Saten coming to terms with her being a level 0 was the point of that arc dummy. And finally, you don't need to be able to defeat magicians to affect the grand scheme of things, Hamazura and Mikoto proved that in the events leading up to and during WW3.
