The relationship between Hayate and Freyja is nothing like Alto and Ranka. Hayate flirts with Freyja (winks at her, teases her) while Alto was paternalistic with Ranka, including her role as protector handed to him by Ozma, another big brother rather than her self-appointed knight. I watched the first few episodes of Delta and loved it. So, I decided to go back and watch some of the older Macross series because Delta was the first Macross I ever watched. It's been a week or two now and I've watched the original Macross, 7, Plus, and Frontier.
I might just be speaking out of my ass but Delta seems to lack the fighting that the other Macross' had. Frontier started out slow but eventually kicked it into high gear with the fights. The original seemed to have the most battles out of them all. I'm hoping Delta is just off to a slow start.
