Most other titles are just superficial based on power levels and the scripts for combat is so predictable. For example in one piece, the combat is so simple and usually goes like, the protagonist gets beaten up for a while, then show some new ability, and win with a final blow. HxH is more complicated than that. This is why probably it hasn't gained as much popularity, because it isn't aimed at kids.

Meruem was defeated by a bomb and indirectly by a board game, the entire palace invasion revolved around thorough planning, the majority of fights were strategic or not even physical fights (Gon vs the bat/owl, Morel vs Cheetu/Leol/Pouf, the fight with Youpi, Killua vs the siblings, etc). Plenty of ants didn't even have combat abilities.

It just seems like powerlevels at first since Togashi used it to hype up the stronger ants but in effect it was basically used as the reason why they couldn't fight the Royal Guards or Meruem head on. So the fights were all strategic and the powerlevels didn't mean much except to actually make the fights less about raw power which was a neat twist to how it usually goes in shonen manga, so props to Togashi for that.
