Shirobako is basically a university/young-adult anime in recent seasons. Aoi/Ema/Zuka/Misa are 22 (23?) and start their first jobs. Diesel is in university trying to get a writing degree. And there's plenty of other "older" characters too (director, senior artists, producer-san)

The only bonus a University setting adds to a "school" setting is having the characters able to drink. On the downside, it forces characters to partake in a mutual club, while subtracting the ability to create in-class scenes.

If you want a school setting, high-school is the way to go. University-setting anime often have the characters acting like teenagers any way so what's the point of changing, there's literally no difference.

The high school setting has a some kind of strange grasp on the Japanese psyche. Is it because HS was the last time the average Nip was truely happy and free?
