It was enjoyable to watch, but it was slightly lacking all the way, it always felt like it fell a bit short of being a timeless masterpiece.
And the ending was terrible. If the ending had been good, it could have been an anime to recommend to people, but now it's only for people with a special interest in this stuff. It was just so bad, one of the worse endings I've seen.

They were both good series but the biggest problem with YYY was the entire ending of the series was a giant cop out. Literally every single negative aspect of the show is canceled by magic so they get a cookie cutter happy end. Its bullshit and dumb. You cant introduce a plot point and then suddenly just hand wave it away cause it makes someone sad. If the show had any chance to stand up to Madoka it lost it right there as the entire show betrayed itself and its setting.

While Madoka had a reset in it it didnt cop out and demean itself for a happy ending. The only difference from the start of the show and the end of the show is that the girls dont turn into witches. They still fight and die. They still suffer. Those were the main plot points and elements of the show and since they werent totally resolved they NEED TO REMAIN INTACT. The only way to give a setting like that a good end is to stop the main antagonists and put and end to the sytems that push the setting. Neither show did that so to suddenly just jump out and go WHOOPS CANT HAVE A SAD ENDING EVERYONE GETS THE USE OF THEIR SACRIFICED BODIES BACK! is fucking stupid. Madoka at least had the balls to continue on with its setting when it wasnt resolved. Any sequel of YYY will be plagued by this decision later as now there is literally no actual threat or meaning behind fighting. We know the girls cant die and we now know they arent being sacrificed. So whenever there is a fight you just spawn magical girls that spam magic and beat the invaders because its already been proven that you cant die unless they reach the middle.

If you want a sequel they would have to rewite the setting AGAIN to do something different which they would probably just asspull a happy end from again anyway.

YuYuYu is literally Gokumi's best-selling show ever, and it's an original property at that. YuYuYu's OP was actually relevant to the show with foreshadowing in the lyrics and scenes, whereas Madoka's was intended to mislead everyone into thinking it would be a cute, happy anime with lingerie and a cat.

YuYuYu's OP and Madoka's ED were written by the respective OST composers so the real question is which one between those?

You may be right, but any time someone says that the ending was poorly executed they're met with the same cries of "read the LN, it's a multimedia project," which, to someone who hasn't read them, sounds like they're claiming that they contain some kind of explanation that somehow makes the ending good and answers the shitload of questions the last episode creates.

And since the people who didn't like the ending aren't going to waste more of their time with after-the-fact explanations, all they have to go on is what they can gather from those who did while they rabidly defend that ending.

I agree, the problem is partly with those people who say "read the LN". The ending was perfectly fine on its own for people who actually paid attention and understood the underlying themes of the show, the other content should be read as an additional bonus and isn't essential.

It's just that most people realize that's bullshit and the only way to make people doubt how shitty the ending was is to convince them that they haven't seen the whole thing. That way they can argue about it without ever having to reference something the other side is familiar with and dismiss any claims otherwise as incomplete.

Ideally people would just admit that they have shit taste and wanted a happy ending regardless of how much bullshit it took to get there and we could all just accept that and we wouldn't have to do this every thread, but at least keeping it confined to the show moves things a bit closer to discussion than the entrenched shitflinging we get now.

It literally starts with her crying and mentions being stuck in a maze. The first ED was there to mislead people, but the OP was representative of Madoka's mental struggle throughout. If it wasn't, they would have changed it too.

Also, the OSTs for both shows were great, but I prefer Madoka's just for giving the songs actual names instead of a bunch of fucking stars.

I'm not sure what was responsible for grimdark taking over but I'm going to blame 9/11 or GRRM. Game of Thrones was a mistake.
