I would say end it at the Sasuke Retrieval arc, with a conclusion of Naruto killing Sasuke then a flashforward final arc where he takes down Orochimaru, but there would still be several terrible arcs left over such as Zabuza, two thirds of the Chunin exam, and the Tsunade arc.

Ultimately Naruto is too much of a shitshow for a simple fix to be pointed out, massive rewrites would be needed.

Really what it needed was better fight design, way less runtime, and more focus on the ninja thing. Sure chakra stuff is nice and busting out the big nuke jutsus can be cool at times, but it got ridiculous in the second half. Focus on actual ninja stuff like recon and assassinations would have been nice. Eyehax were okay to a point to reinforce the theme of the series by having people who work hard surpass the ones who were born strong (this means Lee should have won), if their importance had later been greatly reduced. Having people actually develop a character would have also helped. The only one who I felt changed a lot over the series was Gaara, and the MC himself was incredibly boring and had godmode stuff later on despite supposedly being the underdog. You can't just not have development in a series this long.

Ever realize how most series that have a single plot stretch for 40+ episodes are complete garbage? At that point it's either shitty writing or deliberate stretching to cash in. Some series avert this (ex. Berserk stays interesting by telling a bigass story, although the whole boat thing could have been left out obviously, and JoJo by splitting it's plots neatly into digestible pieces and just building a big metaplot on top), but by and large, long runners simply suck ass. Good examples are this very series, Dragonball, Pokemon, One Piece, etceteraetcetera. At some point the series is usually too long to keep up any tangible tension.
Meanwhile most series we can all agree are good/decent are somewhere between 20 and 35 episodes in length.

Introduce the other Leaf Village genin during this. That way there is more character development and plot giblets to better flesh out the world.

The biggest problem I saw was that too much happened too fast and the resulting plot collapsed upon itself. Building up pre-chuunin and fleshing out plot concepts would've helped prevent the Uchiha circle jerk from happening.

Sometimes I question whether or not this is a good idea. The Land of Waves arc was supposed to be a C rank mission turned A rank because the Jew bridge builder wanted to save shekels and omitted the fact he's being hunted by fucking Zabuza

Obviously genin can't keep going on A rank missions or else it'd ruin the tension of the series, but C & D ranked are boring as hell and only Chuunin/Jonin can do B ranked.

So after you see the best available, why would you want arcs containing shittier missions that are less exciting? Going from the Land of Waves to the Chuunin Exams was a good way to change the pace of things while still making it interesting since you introduce a bunch of other ninja their age.

And then Naruto fights Sasuke, while Kabuto fights against leftovers of Ninja army. Naruto can't defeat Sasuke so he uses the strongest uzumaki magic which literally sucks out all chakra in the world, so no more ninja magic for you. The payment for the usage of this skill is live. So Naruto dies. Kabuto runs away. Sasuke gets life sentence and Sakura is the new hokage. The end.

The only plotlines in Naruto I didn't like is the Biju-Damas, but I will excuse those because Kishimoto needed a way to kill off characters from far away in an efficient amount of time in order to get the story all in under 700 chapters while also juggling its high quality output at a rate of 1 chapter a week without fail. So I can accept Biju-Damas (tailed-beast bombs).

What I can't accept though is Killer Bee surviving against Sasuke. Sasuke should have known that it was a clone made of his tentacle. If you could see chakra and suddenly were taking back a small portion of the guy who just turned you into a shiskabob, then you'd be suspicious too.

I also, really hate the whole "Juugo can give up his own flesh and reverts to his childhood" thing.

To be fair, Chiyo and Sakura were very good counters for Sasori. Chiyo taught him everything that he knew and Sakura could one-shot his puppets and had a cure for his incurable poisons.

Sakura falls in love with Sasuke. Unable to confess, he is gifted with by a deus ex machina with the edgelord's phone number. Never minding the strange area code, she immediately calls him, and is overjoyed to find out that he has a crush on her as well. But, the next day, when he recounts the previous day's confessions to the boy, he only unsheathes his katana (folded x 100000000).

After some investigation, she finds out that the boya she called is not the same edgelord he fell in love with. In fact, he doesn't exist in this universe at all. he is the boy's alternate universe counterpart, who has fallen in love with the MC's own AU self, who too is blissfully unaware of his crush.

Hijinks ensue as the two strike up a deal to give each other their DARKNESS, most private secrets in order to equip the other with the weapons (like katanas) they need to conquer the heart of their other selves. While the two chase their respective loved ones, DRAMA ensues as they begin to fall in love with each other instead and question the NARUTO of DARKNESS.

The biggest problem of the series is Naruto himself and everything about him. The elements that comprise his role and backstory are pathetically contradictory.

He's the annoying nobody everyone hates but everyone really hates him because of the demon but everyone actually loved the previous host and NOBODY mentions his parents who were like the best people ever in everyone's opinions. The explanations for it are terrible: Naruto has no reason why he should be so completely out of the loop as he is. Tailed hosts are apparently really important in the political world of naruto as ninja nukes but NOBODY FUCKING TELLS HIM growing up. So if they never did try to groom him proper than we can only assume jinchurikis actually aren't important at all. The only reason is because kishi started the story wanting an outcast character but bungled the writing later to the point where it made absolutely NO SENSE.

In particular the series majorly cops out by tip toeing around the question of Naruto's upbrinding. We know he's never had a real friend (except later when we see his classmates really were his friends... go figure) and he lives alone in some apartment. Who raised Naruto? Who changed his diapers? Who taught him out to shit in a toilet? Who pays for his house?

Basically Naruto needs to be one of the following.

A) A legit nobody everyone dislikes who stumbles into a sealing ritual for the fox and becomes its host. The series becomes about everyone having to put up with this shitskid and gradually changing their opinion on him. Naruto from the other side learns to better work with others and not be a shithead.

B) Naruto actually had a great upbrinding. Sure his parents are dead and he's kinda annoyed at not knowing why but he's well taken care of and he knows who his parents are and everyone acts really nice to him.

Then he discovers the fox inside him and realises he's being groomed into a human weapon and realises his whole life was a lie.

Naruto's story is ultimately supposed to be about how this violent ninja world is a bad place and everyone tries to change it. The bad guys just do it in shitty ways.

The problem is that we're never really convinced of this as an audience. The ninja world seems cool and besides the worst of the villains all the characters who get focus seem pretty cool.

Kishi snidely avoids addressing this by having most of the moments where we're supposed to see the 'true cruelty' of the ninja world being perpetrated by background nobodies with a few exceptions (again, only the worst of the villains).

How about make the ninja world a real fucking scary place and actually convince us these characters want to really change it instead of just taking it onto the tail end of the series.

1. Make Naruto the actual main character but keep some of the chracterization from the others and reduce the amount of flashbacks and filler. Also make Naruto not as retarded or at least below average and not autism.
