As for doujins I always go in this priority order: Suruga-ya -> Mandarake -> Toranoana

Suruga-ya almost always has old manga and doujins I could get before very cheap, same goes for Manda but you have to make sure all your order comes from the same store to prevent extra shipping charges.
As for Toranoana, only use that site for new releases, they usually stock merchandise from doujin circles as well.

I've bought doujins when I got a FigInStock alert a couple months ago, I think they have disabled the "Pay with credit card" option but if you reply fast to their Order Confirmation e-mail they will gladly change it to credit card if you are a trusty customer (Like, having an account at least 1 year old and having at least 3 successful purchases).

EMS will be your only option available in any shop if you purchase more than 4 books, paper is heavy.
If you only purchase light doujins or a couple h-manga they can offer rSAL but its usually better to purchase as much stuff as you can afford in one go and send it in a single EMS to prevent multiple shipping charges.

As for forwarder proxy, use one that charges per package forwarded and not per item forwarded.
I personally use 2you4, they charge you the amount of space used by all your items, forwarding books with them is cheap than most other proxies but you're still welcome to investigate, chances are you can find a cheaper one and share it with us later.

I forgot prices, they vary too much. I forwarded 6 h-manga from suruga-ya with 2you4.

The books cost about 500 yen each, 150-ish pages, very nice and cheap.

They charged me 360 yen for receiving and storing my manga for a whole week. I even paid an additional 200 yen because I wanted it packaged extra securely, you can ask them to send regular but still, very cheap.

International shipping raped me with 6.8k yen, for only 6 books worth 3k (tanks are small but then again, paper).

Chances are you'll afford a book or two with only that much money, in used condition.

Don't get me wrong. Japanese are very autistic with second-hand stuff, all my used doujin and manga arrive in pristine condition, I even got an old manga that was released back in '09 and it was perfect.

How come the DHL estimates on amiami don't match up at all with what they actually charge when it comes in stock.

I have a package that weighs 2kg and they're saying DHL is 8k, when the rate says more like 2.8k

Shipping is calculated by weigth, not package size. The box they arrive in is very small but also heavy.

Shipping a 2 kilo box is 5k yen, no matter the size. 6 books weight almost 3 kilos and it skyrockets to 6.8k shipping.
