I don't think anybody is downplaying the quality of Miho's commanders. Most people would list them as one of the strongest assets of the Ooarai team. Miho approves of and encourages the initiative and ingenuity of her commanders, which is similar to Wehrmacht doctrine during WW2. Which I find odd, because Kuromorimine - which are the "German" school - are almost the polar opposite to that type of command structure and engagement.

Now you realize that that the entire Duck team is basically just Shinobu. In all animated material until now, the only thing they did was to distract, lure and gain time by escaping.
She is possibly the best driver in the whole Oorai team yet she's so underappreciated.
Why don't they want to give her the recognition that she so well deserves?

As I said in the last thread, Arisu is by no means incompetent. She's arguably a better commander than Maho as she is better able to react to unexpected events and challenges due to a more flexible Senshado style. Her commanders are also anything but incompetent. Individually, they make few mistakes during the entire battle (a notable exception being the platoon commander in charge of guarding Karl).

The failure of the Uni team lies largely with Arisu though. She made a fatal error after the Ferris wheel incident. She should have regrouped her forced and resumed a coordinated attack like she had at the start of the battle instead of just chasing down the individual Ooarai tanks. That cost her a lot of forces.

I personally think that Darjeeling actually is rather good at on-the-spot decisions, that and a team that can operate fairly independently on their own, mirrors Miho and her team.

Them getting into the hole probably was on purpose, after they were surrounded and chased by Ooarai, but after Darjeeling gave the order to dig in with her heavily armored tanks, Miho couldn't do much.

They aren't coming out of the hole, so baiting is useless. Charging at them is out of the question, Darjeeling's tanks are stationary and would have an easy time shooting Miho's tanks, who are on the move and less likely to hit with their shots.

Here's a much more simple description I think.
In basketball terms, Darjeeling runs a read and react freeflowing defensive style. Her offensive maneuvers are dictated by how the opponent plays their cards, while their defense is based on their individual ability to defend/protect themselves. In basketball, it's like owing all your defensive efforts on athleticism. In senshado, your tank's specs.
Katyusha runs a halfcourt offense with set plays and defensive traps. She never lets the opposing team run the pace, and her defense is still predicated on the offense. But her offense, like Maho's, is at a disadvantage when things go out of her control/expectations, that's why it's completely necessary for Katyusha to dictate the pace.
They both complement each other.

It's a bit of both. Here's my breakdown of what Darjeeling did during the exhibition match from a previous thread:

While Miho may be an excellent tactician who can react to changing events on the fly, Darjeeling is a fantastic strategist. She had clearly studied both the doctrines of Ooarai and Chihitan and knew how to exploit them.

But the problem for Darjeeling at the start of the match was that Miho (as she did at the start of the University match) was employing uncharacteristically conventional tactics that seemed to be working effectively against St. Gloriana. Hence she had to tip the scales in her favour by using her knowledge of the enemy teams against them.

Therefore Darjeeling's match strategy hinged on Chihitan discipline breaking down and getting baited into an uncoordinated charge that would separate them from Ooarai and allow them to be picked off. This would but Miho at a numerical disadvantage and force her to fall back on her regular tactics which Darjeeling had studied and knew how to counter.

Yes and no. She is probably the best analyst in the show (seems to be a St. Gloriana trend, just look at Assam), but she focused on long term strategy rather than short-term tactics in battle. She didn't once waiver from her initial strategy in either battle we've seen her in. And when challenges were posed to her plan (like in the Exhibition match), instead of developing a new plan to counter the situation at hand, she seeks a way to push ahead with her strategy by exploiting the weaknesses of her enemies

That latter point could be a flaw in her Senshado style when playing against a team with few weaknesses like Kuromorimine though, which is most likely why St.Gloriana lost to them in the tournament. There is a certain lack of flexibility in Darjeeling's approach, but only the best teams would be able to exploit it.

Miho using conventional tactics at the beginning of the match is a guess at best. I read a blog making a guess at how Darjeeling managed to get there and the two possibilities is not conventional. Miho can't really do conventional in this match because she is the underdog like always.

We don't know how Miho and Darjeeling got in their position. We can only make guesses. What we did see is Miho is almost winning and Darjeeling needing a miracle, i.e. the other team going suicide just to escape.
