Yui said before that the accident has nothing to do with her coming to the club everyday. There is no way that it is the accident since there is no indication that the accident is the trigger.

2. What exactly happened between Yukinoshita Yukino and Hayama Hayato? What was the "rumor" when they were childhood friends?

The author dropped a lot of hints that the rumor has a significant influence on the personality of present Yukino, but there were never details describing what happened between Yukino and Hayama.


Also last but not least, if Yui really fell in love with Hachiman, why in volume 11 after the Ferris Wheel, she gave her the homemade cookie "as a thanks" only instead of out of affection (she even emphasised it 2 times "as a thanks"). Is she given up on her boat or are we all misunderstood something?

Bullies were crushed and never recovered but nobody wanted to socialize with Yukino so while she wasn't attacked actively, there was air of hostility/fear from her classmates. Hayama knew what's going on perfectly but didn't take any action because he was scared of losing his status as top dog of the class.

If you really need the reason, it's because Yui recognized Hachiman is a good person. She wasn't analyzing it like Yukino would but as stated many times, Yui is good at "feeling". Hachiman deserves the love (don't mistake this with feeling pity like he did though, it's just a general fact and statement I made, not something Yui thinks about) and Yui while obviously sees all his bad sides and points them out (jokingly/in a manner a friend would, which Hachiman misinterprets as some kind of hostility/rudeness), she knows he's a good person and he's someone you can depend on.

She was trying to set the stage for Yukino to give him some treats too. It fucking killed her to say that, in the novel 8man says it sounded like Yui was being crushed to say it. That coward doll Yukino just looked sad and stared at her bag so Yui had to strong arm things a little. Yukino is at fault of course but the past is the past. Her proposal was just that, a way to shock all of them into action but she didn't really mean the implications of it. Yukino may have not even understood what Yui was implying.

I admit, I haven't read the LN, so of course for the LN at least, I can't say. But desu, I've tried reading online translations of two LNs I've watched the anime to up until now, and both were freaking HORRIBLE. And I think it isn't so much the translation, but more the writing style overall, which is freaking terrible. But with the term being 'light novel', I guess you can't expect very detailed scenes or complex phrase structure...

On topic: at least for the anime, it would be very surprising if Yui were actually the only girl with a romantic interest in Hachiman. There's just too many scenes with and for the other girls for that to be the case looking atz the anime only.

Whatever happens, either way I'm gonna have to wait for the next season to come out, if there ever will be one. Fingers crossed!

The personal experience stuff is specific to this series (I would argue Watari makes a very specific and exceptional use of the medium).
In general, I do think LNs are best read like plays, because most are written with an adaptation in mind. If the series is an SF story set in space, imagine the lines spoken by Spike or Gene Starwind, etc. The visuals aren't provided in the text, because you're supposed to imagine them yourself. It's not a great system in isolation (Hamlet is much better seen than read, even if it's damn good read), but it works wonders for making manga and anime.

watch ep 1 again. notice how 8man shits all over the "rose collored" school life as nothing but a disengenous lie. he derides others for their fake relationships and fake friendships.

he started to build a real relationship with the people in his club but then Yui started to feel things for 8man and 8man started to feel things for Yukinon. when he realized BOTH of those things (arc 1 season 2) he started to do what he derided Hayato for, he became "fake". He tried to be a dense harem protag, and everyone's "friend", because he wanted to maintain the "real" relationships he started to form (he was woried romance would break the club up)

however as the season went on and he become more and more fake he started to enjoy spending time with Iroha because he didn't have to be fake with her and isolate himself from the club because he could tell it wasn't working. The friendships had fractured and he wasn't getting back what he had lost.

So when that arc ended he confronted both Yui and Yukino and tried to explain what he wanted. He wanted "genuine" relationships with others. He didn't want this fake bullshit that hayato and the others had. It wasn't about wanting a "real" girlfriend, it was simply about a real friend, real human companionship. not that fake bullshit most high school cliques are about.

But he doesn't know how to do it anymore. because it means being honest about feelings. and he's scared to be honest about his feelings or even to hear the honest feelings of others. So that is why he gives his genuine speech then promptly returns to being hayato dellux. It doesn't work and ends up in that heart to heart at the end of season 2. Where he's recognised his faults and realizes it's not all about him, it's about them too.

the end of season 2 is supposed to be a turning point.

I never thought the infirmary scene was where Yukino found out she likes Hachiman. Supposedly among the Nips it is when she decides to go for him, but I haven't not seen the argument for that. It's just a romantic moment that is special to her. She already knew she liked him before. She knew at least as far as back as "Help me someday" and buying the photo of the two of them.

It is certainly the moment when Yui realizes Yukino likes him. And it fulfills basically the same role in ANOTHER except in reverse.

One issue I have with ANOTHER is that people imply that Yui knows that Yukino swallowed her feelings. Based on her actions vol 11 I don't think Yui would walk all over Yukino just to get at 8man.

I actually agree. Throughout the story Hachiman's notion of Yukino has been continuously modified and perfected, but Yui has mostly been static in his eyes. His attitude towards 'nice girls' has evolved, but he has always seen her that way. At the end of vol 11, we find that even she confounded his expectations.

That makes her a more interesting character. If Yui's going down (and I think she is) she will go down swinging.

Can Haciman even commit to anyone? Sure he blushes whenever a girl shows interest in him, but he does it for pretty much any female character. He has blushed more for Saika than for most of the female cast combined. His trauma might have him end up picking no one.

It is a shame that what she wants most of all isn't really obtainable. Is she prepared to take Hikki at the cost of Yukino if it came to that?

With her early obsession with fairness she is making believe that if someone hypothetically did something she perceived as unfair with Hikki she would be absolutely livid.
