Once I was able to read Japanese a whole new world of untranslated porn opened to me, and looks like I wasn't at all ready for that.
Now I kinda have a problem, I can't stop masturbating all of my free time.
Even when doing reps I get lewd cards mined from lewd games with lewd lines that remind me of a particularly good scene so I do it right there to the fucking anki card.

Is anybody interested in working together to make an anki deck for 日本語文法辞典全巻?

I know we have DOJG, but this resource is much better because it has more nuances and happens to be written completely in Japanese.

If a few happens to be interested, I guess we could setup a google spreadsheet and just type out some of the example sentences and the explanation of the grammar used and have somebody compile it once it's finished.

Does this just mean "if something happened to the villagers the chief's authority would be questioned"?
All the translations for 不利益 seem to imply something like a disadvantage which seems like a strange way to put it in the context (some monsters attacked the village, villagers were rescued)
Is it just the default way of saying it for a commonly used line or something?

There once was was a valley owned by a Saint Joachim. The German word for valley is "Tal" (or "thal" in "ye olde German") The coins minted there were known as coins from "Joachami's Tal". Rather than saying "Coin from Joachim's Tal" ever single time they became known as "Joachimsthaller". The coins became popular and spread around Europe. The Dutch, already being proficient Jew'esque traders, decided the "Joachim" part was superfluous. The coin became known as the "thaler", which then became "daler", which then became "daalder" thanks to the local dialects (The Dutch word for valley/Tal is "dal"). The word "daalder" carried over to all currencies used in Holland as name for certain coins, up until they switched to the Euro. The last coin in Holland to carry the name "daalder" was the "Rijksdaalder"("Rijk" as in the German Reich") which was worth 2 1/2 "Gulden"(The currency the Dutch had before Brussels, under pressure of oligarchs, imposed the Euro on everyone).

Now when the clogfags decided trade in Murica was pretty damn good several centuries ago, their coins followed them over there, along with the term "daalder". Of course as we now know Holland sold their Murican property to Anglos and the initial Dutch centric trading became Anglo centric instead.

As is made evident in this thread, Anglos are bad at any language but their own (and even there some struggle). The word "daalder" was made to endure the Anglo tongue, which twisted it into "dollar".
This is where my knowledge ends and my speculation starts.
Presumably the Mooners had been introduced to the Dutch daalder through centuries of trade, long before the Muricans forced their gunboats into the nip harbours introducing widespread trade with "dollars". It is entirely possible that the nips just extended their moonrune for the already relatively well known "daalder" to include the new "dollar".

Nobody is going to read this and I just wasted my time, end me.

I used Assimil to great effect as beginner, good way to get used to reading/listening (and pronunciation if you don't mind talking to a wall). Usually it will set you back ~200 dollars, but lets be honest where do we think we are. I would also watch anime episodes, first with subtitles and then raw. Not so much because I enjoyed the anime, but because it is basically the only medium that has translated spoken Japanese that is very widely available. Trying to get your hands on other Japanese spoken dialogue that has been translated into English is pretty hard.

Senkaku islands are the islands your country and moonland are being extremely butthurt about towards each other.

Alternatively you could name yourself after some super warship of your navy, but you don't have those. The best you have is your "Lianoning" aircraft carrier which is just a fancy decommissioned Soviet boat.

The purchase of that ship is a cool story in and of itself btw, not least of all because cancer turkroaches were being manchildren about their Bosporus rights.
>>
>>142316382

I don't remember even seeing a bunch of these vocab words and for some reason they're 1m/2m intervals. I don't think I've messed with anything.

Should I be pressing "good" if I know what the vocab word means but I don't know how to say it in Japanese? That could be a big reason as to why I'm not learning these words but since every kanji has 3-4 ways of reading it depending on what it's attached to I stopped bothering.

How do you keep track of false good answer in anki?
For example, according to the SRS algorithm you're supposed to see a word in 5 days, then in 15 days, then in 2 months and so on. Then you can tell if you forgot the word or not.

But what if you meet the word in a sentence that you read in a VN one day before the 2 month rep? Of course it's fresh in your mind, but it's potentially a false good answer since you might have forgotten it if you don't meet the word outside anki. I normally press hard or again at these occasions, but I really have a hard time remembering which words I met outside anki and remember them only because of that.
>>
>>142316663

Okay, because I'm bored I will assume that you are not a troll, and just someone of partial Chinese background who knows the characters for his Chinese name but is otherwise illiterate. There is no other explanation for your mistaken belief that those same characters did not exist in Japanese.

Hanzi/kanji can have many, very different pronunciations in Japanese. You can mix and match them pretty much however you want in a name.

沈:
Chinese-derived readings: chin, shin, jin
Japanese-derived readings: shizumu, shizumeru, shizuku, shizumi, shizume
Special name readings: ushi

威:
Chinese-derived readings: i
Japanese-derived readings: odoshi, odosu, osore, odokashi, odokasu
Special name-only readings: takeshi, taka, take, takeru, tsuyo, tsuyoshi, toshi, nari, nori

You can technically choose to pronounce your name with any combination of those. However, if you are Chinese, the Japanese will insist on pronouncing your name as Chin'i, because that is the closest Japanese approximation to the real Chinese readings, which are 沈 (chen and shen), 威 (wei).
>>
>>142316868
But anon, you're essentially cheating the SRS algorithm.
>>
>>142316768
there are enough words in the japanese language for this not to matter at all

>>142316834
I wouldn't use the word "rarely" considering I can list over 30 off the top of my head
>>
>>142316923

>Okay, because I'm bored I will assume that you are not a troll, and just someone of partial Chinese background who knows the characters for his Chinese name but is otherwise illiterate. There is no other explanation for your mistaken belief that those same characters did not exist in Japanese.
Pretty much. Also, I was under the impression that since time has changed the character, so has the pronunciation of the word. Like, the word for woman uses the exact same character in both languages, but is pronounced differently.
>>
>>142316891
If anything the SRS algorithm is holding you back at that point.

If you were to live in Japan and be forced to communicate with your shitty Japanese all day, but because of that remember a ton of words you encounter. Then you go to your daily anki session, and you mark the words in anki as "hard" because you only know them through IRL. You are being a retard at that point allowing anki to become a burden instead of a learning tool. If a word is easy it is easy, get it on the mature pile ASAP, fuck me, do it manually if you have to. Don't force it onto the hard pile because "I didn't learn it through anki". Fucking turbonerd, I swear.

Can someone help me understand a dialogue?

It's from a h-manga here (http://g.e-hentai.org/s/9023f2ea3d/811592-135), specifically this page (http://exhentai.org/s/3d18dd239b/811592-151), if you can't/don't want to click, the context is:
Childhood friend misses last train, stays with a guy, comes into his room with drinks, they have nothing to talk about (they were drinking before), until she asks if he's not going to do something to her.
She says she was worried he didn't see her romantically, and sex.
Lastly, she says:

> 安全日だからまぁ大丈夫ですよ
(got this one)

> 襲われなかったらどうしようって言ったでしょ?
I told you I didn't know what to do if I wasn't assaulted?
(hm, no, she didn't had any lines like this in the story, and what saying about NOT being attacked? This doesn't make sense to me)

> こうなりたくて来たんです
Because I wanted to get like this

Please help me understand what is it about, or correct me if I'm getting something wrong.
>>
>>142316979

Well, those same characters exist in Japanese as well, not even in variant forms. They are identical in appearance, unlike certain other characters.

It is as I wrote above. Technically, you can choose to pronounce your name with any one reading for the first character and any one reading for the second.

If you try pronouncing it to a Japanese as anything other than Chin'i, however, you will get nothing but confusion.

Your Japanized Chinese name is Chin'i. Start learning to love it.

Oh yeah, and don't let the kids start calling you Chin-chin. It means wee-wee.

Nooooo... It is an integral part of the language. Using too much kana, especially when kanji should be used does look childish, however.

Also, that's not Hiragana, it's Katakana which is used for writing foreign names.

If you insist on using the Hanzi for your name, you will be assumed to be called Chin'i. If you want to keep the Chinese-Chinese pronunciation (Shenwei, I assume), just abandon the hanzi entirely and accept シェンウェイ as your name.

I still don't get why you would want to use a nominalization particle here especially since (責任)転嫁 is a perfectly fine noun. The writer certainly is a hack.
>>
>>142320965
Substantive stop. It means to end the sentence on a grammatical substantive (i.e. a word inflected as a noun). So in a way, the way you looked at the kanji might make it easy to remember: "real say" = "nouns" + "stop". Since particles follow nouns in moon the "no" ends up being right at the end after the (inflected) noun which ends the sentence.

It's a rhetorical style found in, for instance, tanka and haiku.

It sounds like you don't have your basics well formed then. I rarely stumble on sentences now, and when I do I ask here, the ex forums or reddit for help.

I'd suggest picking a short/compact guide like http://amaterasu.tindabox.net/guide/Intro.php
and complementing by figuring the sentences from anime/comparing to subs.

CruncyRoll/Funi (HorribleSubs) guys are awesome imo, you can hear the sentence, figure the parts and see how it was translated.
Just have to be careful because they localize stuff, so it's not a literal translation.

I found this quite helpful in identifying sentences/expressions, I feel I know stuff that I don't even know how I know when I read them, but because of this my kanji vocab is extremely lacking.

That's really basic, read the guide I linked, or even the wikipedia on conjugations.
That guide (and any other) has some examples too though not too many on conjugations, you might have to look elsewhere to get these (wikipedia has some, might be useful).

For example, that would be:
> 夏子さん
Natsuko-san

> どこに
where + particle of place/indirect = where to

> 行かれる
to go + passive conj (-areru) = make me go

> んですか
polite question

After that you should have the idea
(Natsuko-san) (where to) (making me go) (?)

I could only read hiragana/katakana about 2 months ago, and I knew some basics of particle and conjugations, and with that guide and some others (that I didn't read as much, most were stuff I knew and/or too long) and a lot of raw mango reading and now I'm almost comfortable reading stuff in raw (with the help of a dic).

Since you can read already you only need those grammar stuff to be able to understand stuff (and maybe a dic for kanji/new vocab)

>>142325465
I'd read that as "Where are you taking me (making me go), Natsuko-san?"

Any advice?
A clause is a segment of text that describes a particular noun. A clause has a "predicate". In all languages that are not polysynthetic, adjectives, adjectival participles, and compound words do not qualify a sequence of text as having a predicate. Note that imperatives qualify as a "predicate" for the sake of this explanation.

"This shit is mad gay"

The "root" of this predicate is "is".

>When the going gets tough, the tough get going.

Here, there are two clauses. "gets" is the predicate of the first one, and "get" is the predicate of the second one. Note that in this case, the predicates are auxiliary verbs, so a linguist may instead analyze the predicates as "gets tough" and "get going".

Note that traditional grammar, modern linguistics, and hardcore logic all define "predicate" differently, so you'll just have to roll with any variations in definitions that occur.

>>142327457
Do you have some examples you have trouble with?

In japanese the root of the clause is always* a verb, i-adjective, or copular statement (i.e. です・だ・etc), and it's always last. Relative clauses (i.e. the person [that's driving the car] is tired) directly modify a noun by sticking to the left of it, wheras non-relative clauses use things called conjunctions like から or のに. The thing about conjunctions is that they're modifying the entire clause to their left, hence something on the right modifying something on the left. If you try to think about it as things to the left modifying things to the right then you're going to have trouble un-nesting long sentences because you have to backtrack further.

* There are caveats but you don't care about them.
>>
>>142327171
I'm not trolling. That page you posted the link to only covers 丁寧語, which is but one of three major forms of polite speech (it even says right there he's going to do the other two later).
行かれる is a 尊敬語-Form of 行く (you can also use いらっしゃる, which is even more polite).

It comes down to exposing yourself to the language more. You have to get to the point where you can read a sentence naturally without dwelling on what all the particles and separate clauses mean, at least the second time around, and you'll be a lot better at figuring out how best to divide it up.

Could you give me an example in japanese?

P.S. I am not having a sentence in mind now, it just happens when reading.
I know that in my mind, but when reading I find it hard.

Example:
僕は彼が上げた林檎を食べた。
僕は(彼が上げた林檎)を食べた。
I know that usually after は there is a subclause, but when a sentence is longer it gets hard to remember that XVerb>Y.

Learn radicals if you haven't already

If you decide to do a kanji only study deck with something like KanjiDamage or RTK, do production cards (seeing the english keyword and recalling what the kanji that matches it is (as opposed to seeing the kanji and remembering what the english keyword is)), it's harder and takes longer but is much more efficient
>>
>>142327897
I read as much as I can, but somedays I understand it perfectly without thinkin, other days I don't understand jackshit.

For example, from what I understand a full clause ends with a verb and the particles before refer to that verb.
僕が食べた。 is a full clause
After that you can add 林檎 or whatever and it becomes a subclause which modifies N.
That's easy to know, but hard to apply for me.

Yeah, your brain just has to get more used to the pattern of a relative clause. When you get used to it your brain will automatically unwind the previous clause using your short-term memory and you will subconsciously be able to tell where the relative clause stops.

>>142327972

Production is easier for kanji so long as you're not physically drawing. Being easier is why it's recommended because kanji study is only a side-dish for making it easier to remember vocabulary.

really bothers me that superficial cunts like you are still allowed to exist, please just do the world a favor and chill yourself
>>
>>142328120
Learn the stroke order of radicals and you instantly know the stroke order of the majority of kanji (also keep in mind the left to right top to bottom rule), but otherwise it's not that important to focus on stroke order, unless you actually want to be able to write, or have a hard time remembering kanji, in which case writing them down helps immensely with retention

Readings are best learnt through exposure to vocabulary, unless you find yourself still having a particularly hard time remembering them after you've been learning the language for a long time, in which case you can consider studying readings specifically

>>
>>142328339
>When there is a verb, what is before it is a complete clause right?
Yes, though "what is before it" may end with no explicit marking, such as your example.
>If it's not a continuative it modifies something that comes after it, correct?
What do you mean?
>>
Is it necessary to learn to write kanji by hand? After all, even if you need to write something in Japanese, you'll do it with a keyboard anyway.
>>
>>142328150
>Production is easier for kanji so long as you're not physically drawing

How is recalling a kanji easier than recalling an english keyword? Even without drawing, surely production is harder than recognition
>>
>>142328366
That's exactly what I thought! I just wanted another person's opinion and I see they are the same which is really awesome. Thanks for taking your time!
>>
>>142328491
The keywords are typically chosen for the sake of production/recall rather than recognition.

I don't know why, but production being easier for kanji is a meme. If it's a wrong meme then oh well.
>>
>>142328405
>If it's not a continuative it modifies something that comes after it, correct?
I mean て form or 食べ、切り form (I don't know how this is called).
Example:

僕にくれて林檎を食べる。
僕にくれた林檎を食べる。
In the first くれて does not modify 林檎。
In the second one くれた does modifiy 林檎。

Maybe it's a shitty example, but do you understand what I am trying to say?

Basically that guy who's talking about polite shit is a troll, don't listen to him.

Ikeru = able to go
Ikareru = to go + passive form

If you're new to these threads, do know that this troll is a regular here, so if you ask a question or learn something here DO compare with your reliable sources (everything you read here about japanese can be found in pretty much any decent guide).

Since you probably will only find them in pdf form, you might want to use Capture2Text - just assign a hotkey for the capture in the preferences (for me, the default windows+q didn't work, I had to design another), open the pdf, press the capture key, drag the mouse over the portion of text you need and press the capture key again - the text should now be in your clipboard and you can paste it wherever you want. Works fine with a pdf of Minna no Nihongo, just tested.
