anime reboot when/perfect adaptation?

It was my favorite shonen because it diverted tropes. like power of friendship shit still happened, but the bad guy still won in the end and every character has fleshed out reasoning.

It also draws on diverse cultural and religious elements to make its characters and their fights more interesting. It's also one of those mangas where its protagonist isn't actively seeking out a fight. its another one of those trope subversions that makes me love it. He's just a guy who wants to relax all day

I liked Lyzerg a lot.

The manga made him much less of a faggot than the anime.

I love this. the hero and villain can stay the night with each other and not be at each other's throats because of respect. there's a weird sort of intimacy to the character relationships here

Started it some weeks ago, I've read about 120 chapters and I'm not feeling like reading it anymore.
Is the entire manga about the shaman king competition and nothing else?

Also why everything related to the Tao clan is so horribly developed? They murdered thousand of innocent people, disonored their bodies, made their souls suffer in afterlife, tortured their own relatives, and every single one of them got away with it with a "yeah, sorry".

I did, but looking back with all the knowledge I have no, its definitely an anomaly. Its non-ending, weird shonen type battle system, and convoluted plot is very late-90's early 2000's esque. Its a distinct product of its time. Plus. I went into it wanting some voodoo Shaman stuff, and instead I got tournaments and samurai ghosts. Its been fucking years since I read it though, I pretty much remember nothing besides the MC's brother somehow involved in a weirdly stupid ending.

This to me is what makes Shaman King stick in my mind. There's the pervasive feeling of melancholy in the face of modernization. The Shaman fight get's revealed to be the destroyer of cultures right after they get to America and when the realization sinks in it makes some of the fighters more interesting. They are the last of their people, the spiritual leaders and scribes, the rocks that their beliefs are built on and if they die; their culture will follow.

While not trying to be "deep" I think SK manages to pull off a very heavy tone to it's story. Very one of a kind as far as shonen goes but the resolution does leave a bit to be desired.

I thought persuading Hao because of his mommy issues was fucking brilliant, however it was all rushed as fuck.

What happened in Mu needed at least twice as many chapters.

I completely agree, and I think it plays in contrast with Takei's interest in mecha and the robotic. His later series Ultimo (did the rest of this ever show up on the internet? I only remember v1-4 got scanned) was sort of about a blend of the robotic and the human, and while what I read was merely just okay, it still seemed the culmination of his themes of cultures of the past paving the way for cultures of the future
