I find it pretty hard to find anything good of it in 3d, but I'm sure it's possible. Everything just usually seems off, from the terrible acting and the atmosphere... hell, even the lighting can make me hate something even more if things are already bad.

Read it. It's very good, and the historical research that went into it is nothing short of amazing. It's by the Kaoru Mori, who is the author of Otoyomegatari, and all the same elements that make that great are present, albeit in an earlier, less refined state, in Emma.
