Goten and Trunks look and behave more infantile than in Z, despite being like four-five years older.

Have you ever watched the old Dragon Ball series? We was the king of a huge village and lived in a giant castle with Chichi. But towards the end, right around when DBZ started, his castle/village caught fire and goku and chichi had to put out the flames with a magical item.

But by time they put the flames out everything was gone.

They havent really shown what exactly he does since that happened though. He just shows up through DBZ now and then and never fucking says anything.

Did he rebuild his village and castle? Have his people prospered under his rule and is now a huge nation? Has he just been collecting welfare checks for 30 years? We'll never know.

That was before the magical 6 months. It was also just Toei messing up. In Toriyama's script for the movie, he wasn't in that scene, it was just about Tagoma. You can see the original version of the scene in the manga.

The issue is that there was supposed to be a subplot about Freeza hiring mercenaries for his army, and he was one of them, but that subplot got cut from the movie, so they used that scene to introduce him too. In the manga, they cut that subplot but didn't add any new scenes, so he just appears out of nowhere when it's time to fight Piccolo and Gohan.

How many times do I have to say it, the time travel plot is way more complicated than most people think. There are a few hints, like the Trunks from Cell's timeline traveling way further back than necessary, or during Cell's exposition when he implies that there was a Future Trunks that killed Freeza in his timeline.

If they were continuity mistakes then they would have been fixed in the Kanzenban, like the date of the Cell Games. All the weird time shit was intentional.

It's like how no one ever questions why Bulma's parents NEVER seem to age, even during Jaco all the way through to the Buu Saga. As for the lazer gun, I don't know. In that same line of thinking, you see how he gives zero shits about Tights going off doing whatever on her own, so unless Dr. Brief decided to take the lazer pistol away from his daughter, it's fair to assume that she either used it for parts to make the Dragon Radar, it needed a special fuel source, or Toriyama didn't really care and thought the whole scene should be there for fun.
