I downloaded the version MAL said had the best fansubs, and there was noticeable differences sometimes when an episode had "upgraded" animation. I thought it had its pros and cons. The old one had less vivid colours and the lines are something for you to decide what you like best. I thought the new animation was a bit jarring. I am currently intoxicated so sorry if this post is useless to you. Have a good life

lotgh is one of my all time favourite shows now. just amazing storytelling all around, gives you lots to think about and the characterisation is great. don't think we'd ever see an anime of it's calibre greenlit these days. well i saw berserk before it so i saw some similarities there, but lotgh trumps it IMO

hard to tell. perhaps there's a case for a transitional thing where over time the empire fades into a democracy. tough to say when the empire could turn to shit on the flip of a coin depending on who rules after hilda. i guess a constitution is good for the people of the empire, whilst also serving republican democracy by giving people a taste of what's possible.

maybe there's no need for a new republican democracy like the alliance. maybe the new galactic empire takes the best of both systems and makes them work. obviously both previous systems were flawed otherwise they would've survived.

In the end LotGH is not that complicated a story and its themes aren't groundbreaking or anything, but there's something tragic and true to the whole thing that makes it resonate.
