Re-watching this movie and shows so many plot holes that it hurts.
>>
>>141848297
Such as? I'm interested to hear it, anon.
>>
I'll put some holes in you if you ever bad-mouth Haruhi again, buddy.
>>
>>141848297
Well, nothing is really perfect just great.
>>
>>141848329
Mostly the time travel shit and the fact that there is only one work in one space time continuum.
>>
>>141848451
world*
>>
>>141848451
>that there is only one world in one space time continuum.
I fail to see the issue there. I agree that the time travel stuff is a touch wonky in places, but the rules of this setting are basically being created by an imaginative 16 year old girl so I can swallow that a little more easily than some IPs.
>>
>>141848497
It's that kind of show that you have to turn off your brain to watch and enjoy it,
>>
>>141848347
Haruhi is utter shit.
Other characters were nice and enjoyable, but she was shit. The move was so good in comparison to main series because there was so little of Haruhi.
>>
>>141848569
>Enjoying the movie more because the character in the title is most of the time no preset.
>>
>>141848569
But Haruhi is top tier.
>>
>>141848297
haruhi is garbage, literally newfag first harem romcom
>>
If you take the movie as a journey of Kyon's discovery of why he sticks around with the club and finds his purpose in it, it's a pretty good movie.

The time travel and character interactions are icing on the cake of the grand adventure.

You even get some development into some of the side cast (namely Itsuki and Nagato) and how they feel about their positions in Haruhi's world (Itsuki being jealous of not bringing out the fun in Haruhi since he loves her, Nagato getting tired of all the craziness she has to put up with despite bring programmed to not express emotion resulting with what happens in the movie).

Add some nice animation to that and you've got yourself a classic in my opinion.
>>
>>141848564
That's just anime in general

She deserved Kyon's punch.
>>
>>141848564
It isn't, and complaining about physics that are not even real can't be considered a "lot of plotholes" unless you prove it's inconsistent.
I guess you're just trying to hate a movie because it's popular.
>>
>>141848757
She deserves Kyon's dick.
>>
>>141848569
>>141848757
Has it occurred to you that the entire premise of the movie is 'oh god Haruhi is gone and I want her back'? Because that's pretty much the core conflict and it doesn't seem compatible with not liking her.

IT'S CALLED A FUCKING PLOT DEVICE.

I don't care it's about bringing Haruhi back. I'm just happy there wasn't during most the movie I didn't had to see Haruhi being a annoying dick to everyone around with no consequences.

I honestly don't know who would find Mikuru interesting, but it surely wouldn't be true alpha.

>>141848297
Those aren't plot holes, anon. If time travel exists in a series, then you automatically have to accept that paradoxes can't happen for some utterly inane reason, because that's literally part and parcel with time travel itself.

You could make the exact same complaint about Steins;Gate
>>
>>141848564
You can apply that to everything and it will suddenly be good.

>Sword Art Online isn't bad you just have to turn your brain off to enjoy it
>>
>>141849297
The difference is that you're not judging it from its own writing you're judging it from a comparison with "reality".

This type of issue happens to everyone who worships "realism".
>>
>>141849176
>Steins;Gate
Steins;Gate clearly explain how it jumps from one time linen to another and creates new ones,

In Haruhi it was clearly stated that there is only one timeline and it was the one that was changed.

>>
>>141849384
I don't give a shit about realism, the important thing is logic/consistency.
>>
>>141849584
You haven't explained how it is inconsistent. You just pointed at "time travel" and scoffed at it.
>>
>>141849478
Didn't they say Nagato just changed everyone's memories and position of things around, ergo when Kyon wakes up, that is when the world is back to normal and everything that happened before that was in the other world.
>>
>>141849697
I think that's the gist of it. The AU only existed from the moment she created it, it didn't retroactively change events. That's why there was still an alien Nagato in the past to help them.
>>
Isn't the time travel being contradictory intentional?
When Mikuru explains how the Time Plane Destruction Device works she says the events are predetermined the same way as a film reel goes, and TPDD only superimposes a new something over an existing frame of time, but at some point Kyon's actions actually change the outcome of the future? I don't exactly remember when the latter happens though.
>>
>>141849639
That wasn't me.

I just said that "if you turn your brain off it's enjoyable" is a shitty argument.
>>
>>141849526
It was stated a lot of time that there is only one time line. Then how can the past, present and future exist at the same time.

3/4 series was about a guy who grumbled and complained that his life sucked and could be better then finally he got what he wanted. He finally realized his life was great and he really like his friends and would change the universe to get back that world that caused him so much troubles.

Basically, the is comparing to a lot of young peoples life. This is an example but, you probably bitched and moaned about school or work or whatever but when you had to leave, you wish you could go back. This move is an allegory for just enjoy your life while you can and cherish...something... you know what I mean.

You are just a literal retard if you cant see that.
>>
>>141850189

That the point. I was repeating the same logic OP was using. As you can see it is flawed.
>>
>>141850405
I'm well aware that this is where the movie was going thematically, I was just talking about it in a more literal sense to make a point for that anon.

>>141850698
Nagato made Haruhi best girl in her own universe. I guess that settles it then.
>>
>>141848451
To claim that anything related to time travel is a plot hole is to claim that you have figured out how time travelling and the fabric of reality works.
>>
>>141850789
Even funneling her off to another school couldn't keep her down.
>>
I feel that more shows need tsun men.
>>
>>141850789
She might've been borrowing Haruhi's powers but she was limited by her own imagination.
>>
I haven't read the books yet. But I remember a lot of people saying that there are hints of Kyon actually being the god and not Haruhi.

How do they re-conciliate that with how Nagato used Haruhi's powers to make a universe? Do they think she accidentally used Kyon's without realizing it?
>>
>>141848297
When is the new season coming out ?
>>
>>141851301
Very good question. It's possible that maybe Kyon is the source of the power but he inadvertently has given it to Haruhi in much the same way that Haruhi unintentionally created aliens, ESP users and time travelers.
>>
>>141851346
Sooner than you'd think, but longer than you'd hope.
>>
>>141848297
>>141848451
To be honest time travel itself is a "plot hole" as you say. It's not totally understood and the components of time travel are logically inconsistent and contradictory to the laws in existence today. So we can't really say that this plot device is a hole in the movie.
>>
>>141853898
How is it a plot hole?
>>
Haruhi is legitimately science fiction. There's nothing in it any less plausible than FTL, which is ubiquitous in all but the hardest SF.
>>
>>141853965
In stories, plot holes are logical inconsistencies that include illogical events that contradict earlier events. So I'm just comparing time travel (I would assume backward in time was the argument) to plot holes; time travel back in time is considered impossible and it contradicts current laws of nature.
>>
>>141854245
But time travelling is an established thing in that universe as we see with Mikuru. And Nagato explains how she did what she did.

What you're describing is "not trying to imitate real life". Which is what you'd expect from a world where a high school girl is god.
>>
>>141854356
Yes I understand that time travel is established in Haruhi, but I'm talking how it is understood in real life.

The argument I'm trying to make is that OP can't say that "time travel" in Haruhi is a plot hole because "time travel" is a plot hole itself. He can't argue against something we don't quite comprehend. Sure it's said in Haruhi that time travel is justified as something this/that; however, OP has to remember that this is fictional-meaning that the author has full control of what he wants to define time travel as- and that this take on time travel doesn't have to be truly consistent with other takes on time travel.
>>141848451
OP says here that there is one world in one space time continuum, but do we truly know that is true or not if we ourselves don't understand completely the logic behind time travel? This is why I'm saying that OP can't argue that this is a plot hole since it's generally understood even by physicists today
>>
>>141854245
If you want to argue that the rules or application of time travel within the setting create some kind of contradiction with other elements that is one thing, but time travel is not a plot hole. Time travel is a thing that exists in fiction but not in real life, like a lot of things in fiction.
>>
>>141854783
>it's not generally understood
is what I meant
>>
>>141854790
I'm not sure you're understanding me quite fully, but what you said here
>but time travel is not a plot hole. Time travel is a thing that exists in fiction but not in real life, like a lot of things in fiction
is exactly what I'm trying to argue.
>>
>>141854903
Then it's a plot device. Why are you calling it a plot hole? I think I can kind of see what you're saying now that I read
>So I'm just comparing time travel (I would assume backward in time was the argument) to plot holes; time travel back in time is considered impossible and it contradicts current laws of nature.
again but you've chosen a bizarrely obtuse way of conveying it.
>>
>>141854790
I think I understand now. The wording of my initial argument wasn't so clear, but I was merely comparing time travel to the term "plot hole" in that both are inconsistent/contradictory and impossible. Not arguing that time travel itself IS a plot hole, but that by its definition it is flawed like plot holes. Clearing things up.
>>
I think OP is trying to point out that in the movies it was stated a number of time that they all exist in one space time continuum and if that is the case then why there would be a time traveler at all as it would not make sense if there is time travelers at all. But it's a great show and I love it.
>>
The movie was just a ripoff of End of Evangelion
>>
>>141855195
There only being a single universe doesn't break time travel.
>>
>>141855195
because the goddess Haruhi's will brought the existence of time travelers. also, the time travelers were said to have been unable to access the past of year 0, which is before 3 yrs Tanabata with young Haruhi. so now they apparently think Haruhi is the key to figuring out a solution to that problem.

She was charismatic even back then, here are some spoilers.

While my insides were still feeling like jelly, Sasaki said something that broke that stagnant
feeling. Yes, it was a shocking new revelation.
"Suzumiya-san and I went to the same elementary school. While we were always in different
classes, I could always see how that girl lit up the school with a light like she was the sun. Even in a
different class I could feel that light coming from her."
This has got to be a trick. Haruhi and Sasaki met before that time when we met together?
"I had wanted to be in the same class as her, but alas it was never to be. Then when she went to
a different middle school it got to be too complex. I was a bit lonely and a bit relieved at the same time.
Oh, I see she still stares at your eyes with the intensity of the sun. You know that when we part with the
light, we get a little bit colder right? But that's not too bad. Do you understand what I mean Kyon?"

Am just curious, it seemed like she always stayed like she is forcing everyone to follow her will and wanting to have fun. A bit egoistical but not malicious.

Since we're talking about Haruhi as a character, I want to throw in my two cents.

Back when I first watched Haruhi I stuck with the broadcast order of S1 since S2 didn't exist yet. She was a tad self centred and tended to bully others, but ultimately she was just a girl who wanted to make the best of her highschool years. By the end of the series she seemed to have calmed down and consider the feelings of others for a change, especially if you watch S1 in chronological order.

However I feel as if S2 really dampens her character, especially in sighs. She acts like way too much of a bitch, I have no idea what the fuck the author was thinking when he got her to pour scalding tea over Kyons lap, or drug Mikuru with the "Mikuru is my toy!" thing. It's pretty clear why Kyoani didn't adapt these with S1, and I understand that they were supposed to be tipping points for Kyon to get mad and tell her to stop being such a cunt to everyone (which she does) however I think that they went a bit overkill with these tipping points.

Oh well, she's still love in the Disappearance movie.
>>
>>141856192
The additional fuckup is that people often don't know that these "S2" episodes fit somewhere in the middle of "S1"
>>
>>141856192
I agree completely, S2 comes of as really weird. Especially when you consider that Kyon almost punches her in the face a few days before she gets up on stage and performs songs she had an hour to learn to help save the senior year of a few girls she doesn't know but wants to help anyway. And then feels guilty about anyway because she felt she could've done it better.
>>
>>141856192
Sigh was volume 2 so I guess Tanigawa didn't have a clear outline of what to do with her character yet

Sigh is definitely weak at best and absolute shit at worst (the finished movie was funny though)
>>
>>141856283
I admire any show that cold opens on an intentionally awful 20 minute home movie and just expects the audience to go with it . Broadcast order best order.
>>
>>141856072
>>141856115
In the anime there's the melancholy arc where she's at her worst and is about to use her powers to change reality for her own good. She changes her mind. Then there's a bunch of one/two episodes stories and most of them have her learn to be more reasonable (like baseball episode where she retires from the game, mystery island where she feels bad about a murder really happening and creating a fake culprit so no one gets involved).
Then there's the movie making arc where she's arguably at her worst again, because everyone keeps enabling her. It's like she subconsciously realizes she's a God in this arc, not only she decides what happens in the movie but it affects reality because she doesn't distinguish them too well. Kyon stands up to her, which makes her rethink all that. From this point she essentially stops being a bitch.
In Live Alive she shows she's more interested in helping people and feels bad because she thinks she didn't do good enough for them. Even the lyrics of God Knows allude to that.

Luckily for you there's this thing called discretion. Use it.
>>
>>141856361
The problem is that it comes of as quite jarring with how it's presented. If sighs was straight after melancholy then it might be a touch easier to swallow, but it isn't.
>>
>>141856361
In Endless Eight Koizumi says Haruhi can have fun in more normal ways and that she cooled down a lot. She causes trouble here, but unconsciously.
In Someday in the Rain she shows she can go through a boring day without making a mess even when Kyon (the one who keeps her in check usually) is not here. And her staying at the club room shows she's grateful for what other people do for her, instead of treating them like goons like she did before.
You can see more of her growing out of chuuni in Disappearance where she just wants to do a party with friends, no supernatural involved. She's also a lot self-centered (she asks people what they're doing that day, spends 3 day in the hospital to take care of Kyon and doesn't want him to do more work after his accident)

That's for her growth in the anime, but it keeps going in the novels and she does a lot more there. Like in LN8, it's stated that she doesn't care much for supernatural, she just likes to search for it with her friends, the opposite of Kyon who ends up liking that stuff.. I can go on about it but I don't wanna sperg too much

>>141856637
I see where you're coming from, sighs is pretty frustrating. But it works for me, Haruhi doesn't go through the same development in melancholy (where she's downright delusional) and sighs (which is more of a "I'm all powerful and the one in charge" thing) and there are a few episodes and the movie right after to counterweight.

In the epilogue of the final novel which means never
>>
>>141856697
In Haruhi's dreams and maybe Kyon's too.
>>
>>141856823
But again, you have stuff like the baseball episode where she quits when eventually asked and is actually kind of sweet about it or the island arc where she wills for the murderer to not be her friends so hard that she creates another creature on the island despite a murder not actually having even taken place and then boom! Drugging and face punching. And then straight into being kind and thoughtful.
As far as the show goes at least, it's painfully obvious that they carefully chose what to adapt and how to order it to suit a single non-linear season and that S2 was bolted on.
>>
>>141857180
>drugging
It was a glass of very light alcohol mixed with juice or something. That's still a pretty bad thing to do, but it wouldn't affect most people. And she just gave the idea, Tsuruya is the one who put it in. So I don't think it's her just turning into a cunt, it's more like since people kept doing what she wanted them to, she crossed boundaries when she had no right to and thought she was hot shit.

She was mad jelly
>>
>>141858841
The whole arc was Kyon trying to return to status quo. The arc showed the SOS Brigade unity and the way all characters clicked together in the everyday to make that ending possible. Yasumi is the manifestation of Haruhi's growth, and Kyon jumping from the window to save Haruhi is an important development for his character, on the level of Disappearance I'd say. I agree it'd be better with another book or two to attack other subjects like the Dominion Canopy or whatever their name was, or the Kyon-Sasaki-Haruhi thing, but Surprise does a fine Disappearance-like open ending for me.

Anime like Haruhi should NEVER appeal to "normies".

Also,
>normies
Get out get out get out, get the fuck out of /a/. Go back to whatever shithole you came from.

None of the anime /a/ loves should EVER "appeal" to normies, and you arbitrarily ranking it based on it's some level of "appeal" it ought to have - as if this anime "appealing" to normies is something that ought to be considered in the first place when rating this anime, aka "keeping the normies in mind" - is fucking cancer incarnate.

Haruhi never has, and will never have - "normie" appeal. Kill yourself, shitstain. Stick to your Faggot academy, One-meme man and shitruto, please.

First of all, not samefagging.

Secondly, Haruhi was a thing that got many non-anime fans into anime as a whole, which inculded yes, normalfags. I wasn't trying to state that it was going to be *as* appealing to them as Attack on Titan, One Punch Man or whatever else, I just wanted to remind you that Haruhi was a fucking huge thing that did in fact get a lot of non-anime people into anime.

Also, I never uttered the word "normie" once, you're the only one doing that.

You're trying way too hard to fit in, I suggest you lurk a little more friendo. Especially since a piece of bad bait caused you to sperg out so much.
>>
>>141861501
How would you know what's going on in cons unless you weren't a fucking normie? Also, reddit wants its faggot back. They just called.

Haruhi can be horrible garbage, but it's still not "normie", whatever the fuck you think that word means. Any anime, actually, can be garbage yet still avoid ticking the "normie" checkbox, gateway anime is not mainstream anime. It would have to be so mainstream that people who've never seen it know about the cast, main characters, and the basic plot, and I can guarantee you that is NOT the case, at all.

Knowing a small but famous ED dance routine is not enough.

That's a slippery slope fallacy. By definition Haruhi would have to be mainstream enough for threads like this to become unnecessary, because the OP would already know the answers to any questions he may have, otherwise.

It's like calling Slayers "normie" tier. The fanbase is dedicated as fuck, but that doesn't mean the anime is representative of the fanbase. You're a fucking retard. Never post again.

I love this thing that KyoAni does, it's a lot of work and people rarely notice but it adds to the intangible feel that all their better shows have. It's even fucking gateway tier, but it's not "normie" tier.
Shit I can think of that classifies as normie tier, would be DBZ, or Naruto, but even those would still kind of be a a bit off the "normie" spectrum, and more into the "mainstream anime club" level.

If you want examples of normie tier, "The Walking Dead" or "Breaking Bad" would fit perfectly.

Lets save the thread from the two autists bitching if Haruhi is "normie" or not.

What is it about Yuki that makes her stand out from other Rei clones? Typically I hate Rei clones with a passion but I find Yuki oddly endearing.
>>
>>141863103
Just say normalfag for fuck's sake.
>>
>>141863103
And in addition, you don't become a weeaboo or an otaku the instant you watch a single fucking anime. Which is why the word "normie" does not apply, and is why the word "normie appeal" is fucking retarded.

By the legit used definition, "Normie appeal" is incompatible with haruhi, because "Normies" don't WATCH anime in the first fucking place.

Gateway "appeal" or mainstream "appeal" would be more fitting.
>>
>>141863244
Probably because in her case, 'Rei clone' is more like a general term than an accurate description of her character. She fits the basic mold but is very much her own character.
That they don't make her a focus doesn't hurt, and that they then make that lack of focus INTO A PLOT POINT is absolutely genius.
>>
>>141863244
For me Yuki stands out because the show seems to realize that the nature of her character is kinda sad. She was made to be emotionless but as time carried on she started to develop feelings. Not all of these new emotions where good though, she was growing tired of having to deal with Haruhis messes.

Other Rei-clones play up their stoic nature as something to be cute and endearing, and while Yuki certainly has moments like these the author seems to realize that Yukis characterisation is sort of tragic.

I think that in short the show just does a good job of showing that Yuki has emotions behind her blank expression.
>>
>>141863316
Pretty much this.
>>
>>141850802
Time Travel is weird in Haruhi because Haruhi herself subconsiously decides what the concept of time travel even is, she can make going back to the past impossible because there is no past to go back to.
>>
>>141863429
Something greatly entertains me about the idea that the first emotion a stoic AI alien thing feels is 'fuck this shit'.
>>
>>141863512
That's pretty much why Disappearance happened, but Yuki isn't selfish, she wanted to give Kyon the choice of having a normal life or keeping the shenanigans of the club going. Despite how she would probably be a lot happier in the world she created, she still wanted Kyon to make the choice.
>>
>>141863316
I don't have a problem with that anon saying it's shit, or garbage, or whatever, but bringing normalfag bullshit into the thread does NOTHING productive, and only exposes him as a fucking normalfag. Adding onto that the fact he provided NO actual criticisms of the anime itself, aside from simply calling it shit - and we have a cause of full blown faggotry.

If you wanna criticize it, then fucking do it, but leave your goddamn twitter normalfag lingo out or fuck off.

>>
>>141851301
This theory arose because Kyon once said something alone the lines of "Things would be much more interesting if they existed" when talking about Aliens, Espers and Time Travers. Kyon wanted all these things to exist, and so his powers got projected onto Haruhi who took the blame as the cause of all this.

Though it's exceedingly clear now that Haruhi is in fact the one with the powers.

They dont care. All they see is profit margins and risk vs reward balancing.

If the fanbase is dying and they KNOW it is, they'll put less effort into something less big, or have it funded off site or for less money altogether, and get back a guaranteed profit from the remaining fanbase - rather than investing large amounts of time and money into something that may end up pushing them into the red.

The risk they take IS on us. The risk they take is on whether or not the fanbase is still alive, word of mouth, and the paitence the fanbase has for bullshit.

If they push the fanbase too far, shit like what happened with the yuki adaptation is guaranteed to happen 100% of the time.

I know how you feel, anon.

If they released not even a 10 second clip of, lets say, some mysterious music coupled with Kyon monologuing, and then a flash / .90 second screen shot of the SOS brigade armband, or the SOS logo, I'm sure the anime community at large would lose their collective minds, and I'm pretty sure they know this, which is why I believe they're waiting until they're in the red before pulling out their ace in the hole.

Their ace in the hole is costing US, the fanbase, to go year upon year without a season 3.

That's just how shit is.

I had to rewatch parts of disappearance to answer this and i just can't choose, I love both of them.

If i had to pick one on pain of death, I'd say I'd pick post disappearance Yuki.

Which is to say the alternate universe one? She's too damn pathetic.
>>

No, i meant the one that we get after the resolution of the arc, the one that Kyon meets in the rooftop, that is same ol Yuki but you can now see clearly that she has feelings.

While wording could be better, it gets the gist of what Tanigawa wrote. It's a technical example he wrote for the afterword, so it is pretty darn difficult to obfuscate the meaning.

>watch the anime in chronological right after it
Anime fucking upped the bitchiness of Haruhi by twice.

But she did change. It started after disappearance.

I mean she created a parrallel timeplane just to heal Yuki.

>>141856957
Definitely in Kyon's too.

>>141858384
And she was not even upset about it.

On topic question: What exactly is Tsuruya? It is so vague in the novels, that I have no idea.
>>
>>141891127
The first season of the anime was designed to be watched in broadcast order. It helps a lot with how she comes across. S2 is weird no matter where it sits.
>>
>>141890906

I don't make a damn sound when I'm legitimately terrified.
>>
>>141893911
Well that's your problem.
>>
>>141863471

It's honestly a broken mess.

Can't decide between pure grandfather paradox and multiverse.

Time travellers want/need to make sure the events of 'now' happen as they remember. Kyon retreads over his own past multiple times, setting grandfather like things in motion even though the espers seem to be all free will/mutliverse minded. Yuki literally repeats time, groundhog style, then rewrites time. Then the fact that time travellers have hard limits.

I just don't think the author had solidified what version of time travel he wanted.
>>
>>141896170
It's easy
>fixed events happen no matter what like Kyon going John Smith
>other events can be changed and depending on how they go, diverging timelines are created
>however after the event happens a certain way, only one timeline remain
>>
>>141896170
The author also has the ultimate out of the rules of the universe being decided by a rather chuuni teenage girl.
>>
>>141856484
More like kys for abbreviating something that didn't need abbreviating af.
>>
>>141856664
I can see why there's been no more Haruhi anime after Disappearance. They probably figured that her being no longer a cunt is too boring.
>>
>>141896407
This. Time travel works as thus:
> Haruhi wills it
Any questions?
>>
>>141896775
Weird stuff still happens and she's still as excited as usual, it's just that she's not a bad person anymore
>>
>>141874727

Also notice the placement of (what I assume to be) her cardigan, ensuring that her face is obscured without having to cheat anything. I would assume this is because they felt that having her face visible would lead to people noticing her before the intended reveal and they didn't want to get around it with an intentional continuity error.

For some reason I keep forgetting she didn't act like in Yuki-chan at all.
>>
I just finished watching the series plus the movie.

I've always seen threads and posts on this board praising this and saying how awesome it was. Best shit ever! or sequel when? type comments are extremely common. So I decided to watch it. I had already read the LNs up till the movie part.

I was blown away by how bad the whole thing was. Are we supposed to care or be interested in Haruhi? She's just a crazy bitch who can't into social interactions. And the MC wants to stick his dick into it. It FELT like the whole series was to sell that point. Of course there's other stuff in there, but to me that was the gist of it. In any case, I found the whole thing to be atrocious and was bored out of my mind during every episode. The only interesting part was in the movie with Nagato inviting Kyon and being rejected, everything else was just a snooze fest. Note that I used "interesting", not "good" or "great" or anything else. I feel like watching this was a thorough waste of my time and that if it wasn't for the constant stream of Haruhi threads on this board, I'd forget about all of it within a month or two.

Well, at least you gave it a shot. I'm surprised you read the books before watching the anime. Did you dislike those too? In that case, why bother watching the anime? Anyway, it's a great series, but it really is best enjoyed when you're in high school yourself, otherwise the magic is lost.

With that said:
>Of course there's other stuff in there, but to me that was the gist of it
That's a little dissmissive, don't you think?

And yes, you're supposed to care about and be interested in Haruhi. If you aren't, you obviously aren't going to enjoy it. She isn't the eponymous for nothing.
>>
>>141924985
Wasn't particularly interested in the LNs, no.

>being dismissive

Somewhat. I think that the story as a whole wasn't interesting. The premise was good, but I think the author failed in going anywhere with it. You've got some character growth and some stuff happens, but to me it just seemed like some generic SoL stuff with a fresh coat of paint. I also disliked the time travel plots; to me the only time time travel as a plot device was used well was in the 6 main Dragonlance books.

I also had an extremely strong dislike for K-On, maybe these types of shows just aren't for me.
>>
>>141925678
Other than the one bit where they actually performed a song (and quite well I might add) I don't see a connection to K-On beyond studio and S2's general visual style.
You also seem to have completely breezed over Haruhi's character development which is kind of the point.
>>
>>141925678
It's essentially character-driven, with Haruhi and Kyon's growth, how they complete each other and other stuff like that. There's quite a bit of SoL (that's kinda the point) so that could be a reason why it didn't click with you.

Now, finally.

Each parallel tree refers to a parallel universe. The paths taken by each of the Haruhis are in red, while the paths taken by each of the Kyon's are in green. Where probabilities are omitted, assume 1/1 (100%).

Note this means that there is at least one timeline (n=0) where Haruhi goes to North High without any prompting, and where Kyon disappears without a trace.

what's the correct episode order?
>>
>>141948172
Broadcast for the first watch.
>>
Quick question.

If Haruhi were to haruhi a new haruhi, would it be a good haruhi or would Haruhi get bored and half haruhi Haruhi?
>>
>>141948172
It's hard to say really.

I want state that Broadcast order for S1 was the most fun, however despite a good hunk of content in S2 impacting the show in a negative manner I think that full chronological (ending with the disappearance movie) is probably the best way to experience the story.
>>
>>141949397
Yasumi was a nice Haruhi made by Haruhi.
>>
>>141949470
Is there an order, broadcast or otherwise, that accounts for both seasons and scrambles the episodes in such a way that it solves the erratic characterization of Haruhi that comes from watching chronological? It's really jarring to get Sighs Haruhi going full cunt mode after watching her mellow out gradually through S1.
>>
>>141949717
Sadly not. What we know as "S2" was actually apart of a rebroadcast of the first season with everything put in chronological order, which inculded these new episodes.

S1 was made with the intention of it being viewable out of order. S2 however was not.

A shame. S1 and Disappearance are fantastic, and there are individual elements of S2 like Kyon & Koizumi's scene on the bridge or Nagato's slowly building depression during E8 that are really well executed, but overall S2 stands out as being really weak compared to everything else.

Because she was working her ass on that movie trying her best to do something good or fun but everyone else were either apathetic or criticizing everything she did from the very start like Kyon.
She was pissed at that and during the argument with Kyon went full mad and said the things she didn't really mean.
Kyon understood her feelings when Taniguchi told shit about their movie without even seeing it.
