She's unfortunately the only one who is "final boss" material. Siding with her would make things too easy even if it would be very interesting and emotional. It's obvious Age wants a final mecha battle for Theo, so that rules out the much more compelling Theo vs Axmann scenario, and Beatrix is the one who's built up as possibly the most skilled pilot in the DDR. She's the only one intimidating enough for that final hurdle or obstacle that Theo must overcome, even if most people feel it's rather unsatisfactory compared to something more emotional like Lise vs Theo.

Well, I think I've about ran out of anime-only posts. I don't know if the people who watched SM are just idiots, or if Watanabe is just that shitty, but this right here is the prevailing opinion outside of 4chan concerning our two favorite stasiweibs. They were happy with their deaths, exuberant even. There was no doubt in their mind that Beatrix, Axmann, and Lise formed a trifecta of evil and that with their deaths, happiness would rain from the skies for everyone. These are not tragic characters (excepting Ketchup, because he's just all around piece of crap) but straight villains to be slain by our glorious knight in shining armor. It's funny how not a single one of them picked up on Axmann's boat conversation implying that Lise sacrificed herself for Theo, or Beatrix's warped love of Iris's dead brother. Not a single one had questions like I did after the anime ended. No, Lise and Beatrix were just horrible people, were always horrible, and were doing evil for no reason other than they were evil or enjoyed it.

Really, I wonder if her plan would have yielded any net benefit at all. I don't think they are actually as misinterpreted as a lot of people like to claim they are. Beatrix gets more characterization in the LN, but the only real difference is that she's a decent leader to the Werewolf Battalion. It's not as if her actions or motives are substantively different.

I view the anime presentation of Beatrix as just taking her down to her core characteristics, just like everyone else. She only seems worse because they've removed the thin veneer of likability to expose the monster underneath.

Well, Beatrix makes the rest of girls look like plebs in comparison if some of her descriptions are anything to go off of, so it works in a way. Iris is very pretty, but she's not a whole lot compared to Beatrix. It's what's on the inside that makes her best girl. Same with Katia, who's the least glamorous looking girl of the bunch but has the best morals.

Always seemed that way. All three of them are highly selfish individuals and it's hard to say who is worse. They all deserved dying painfully, and all the sympathy one of them gets perturbs me.

Distilling characters is never good for the story, specially when some secondary traits are important for the story itself. Its only worse when the story is part of a continuity like SM.

Were SM standalone it wouldn't matter that much, but it isn't and that is vital.

The problem is that LNs are never purely descriptive like normal literature, but tied to their illustrations as well. A bombshell and a moeblob can compete under those circumstances with a slightly hotter bombshell very well. Were it purely literary, I would agree.

Women always get better treatment, hot women even more so. It can be argued that the objective of Beatrix's selfishness being somewhat in line whit what many considered the best way to take also helps.

BiS is extremely explicit on Beatrix's beauty though and makes clear that none of the other girls really stand a chance against her through both imagery and the behavior of Iris and Jurgen.
