According to an interview with the author. He said he wanted to add some stuff in the series but couldn't due to time constraint. The anime has adapted only 4 chapters so far and are slowly developing the characters. Compared to it, the manga just rushed through everything and mostly focused on the action.

Its kinda similar. MC has a past with the supernatural shit and has a super special secret OP power and a complicated relationship with a girl who is deep into the supernatural shit and is his equal if not better.
There's also a random fox familiar too. But this one doesn't have a human form, theres no loli, and the MC is a bit more likable.

This and the typical budget shonen stock frames for the protagonists abilities are the two main reasons I'm not that enthusiastic so far and Tokyo Ravens was one of the stand out anime of that year for me (mainly due to having a fantastic second half).

Personally, I don't think he's THAT bad. The problem is he adds nothing to the show at all. He isn't funny, interesting, doesn't improve character dynamics, anything. He's irrelevant to the plot so far and most of the time the other characters seem to ignore him, which just makes him feel even more unnecessary. He's not as bad as, say, Taroumaru, but I'd rather he'd not exist anyway.

After living together for 1 day Benio already wants to share a bath with him.

I think in the manga they were 12 at the start, but in the anime they are 14 (thus passing the widely used age of consent of 13 in most areas of japan).

Benio seems pretty weak. She's fast and is exceptional at dealing with fodder but she simply has no firepower to speak of. Even the guardian we saw is more powerful than she is.

Was Benio really the right choice for Twin Star? Surely there's a better candidate out there.

Keep watching, you'll see the similarities and contrast between the Twin Stars eventually with the power-ups they gain. Think Yin and Yang stuff. I think it's why them having sex and giving birth to a child that will end the conflict is so important too.

I haven't read the manga so I really can't say anything, but to me it seems like Benio has potential from lineage, training, and skill whereas Rokuro has natural born talent, a dubious past, and maybe the tragedy he experienced has something to do with it. Sort of like an extreme lady and the tramp situation. Though honestly I doubt we'll ever get a concrete reason for the two actually being the Twin Stars. It just is. Though I will say I like how the story is focusing on the parents of the universe's supposed Chosen One rather then the Chosen One himself. Feels fresh in a way.

Yea the mangaka shafts Benio on the reg. Things such as training, lineage, effort over time all equate to jack-shit. Due to the extremely brisk pacing of the manga the only thing that ever matters is one's resolve/determination during an actual battle. Which is what allows the MC to always compete and what allows a timid, undertrained, and frankly unneeded character such as Mayura to impose herself amongst a cast of characters all motivated by extreme personal tragedy. Which I know sounds contradictory.
