I understand how King Crimson works, I never really had much of a problem with it, unfortunately I seem to have a problem understanding a different stand altogether that I don't think anyone else is.

How the hell does Bites The Dust work? I just don't understand it. I feel like its really simple and I'm missing a bunch but I'm not sure? From what I gather it kills everyone but starts a loop, if they die again in the loop they stay dead but if they don't their first death doesn't stick? Is this correct? Does Kira control this at all? Okay, here's how it works.

When Bites the Dust activates in Hayato, if anyone learns anything about Kira from Hayato, then Bites the Dust will kill them, and reset time back the amount Kira chooses (From an hour to a day, I think). Then, the same day will repeat, but at the time Bites the Dust activated last time, the people who died before will die again, but randomly that time, because of how Fate works in JoJo. Something that happens once will always happen, unless you go to extreme efforts to stop it.

Hayato managed to stop this from happening by getting Kira to call off Bites the Dust to protect himself from Josuke before everyone died, because Killer Queem can't activate while Bites the Dust is active.

I think the time limit was more of a stamina limit than a training limit (though I do believe both are in effect).

I feel like I got the impression somewhere that the reason Dio was able to go so long was because he was a vampire and therefor had more stamina, though I can't cite this or anything so it's entirely possible I'm pulling it completely out of my ass.

I do agree that even super short time stopping abilities are incredibly useful, especially when they come with a superhuman punch ghost. There are a number of super mundane things you could just do impossibly well, the least of which is probably a really impressive crime spree.

As the series kept on going it got established that stopping time is VERY stressful for his heart and that Jotaro only got as far as he did against Dio was because he really fucking pushed himself just due to how mad he was. Which he could get away with because of his age.

The absolute limit for a human is 5 seconds. DIO was only able to go higher because he was a vampire and had unlimited stamina. He just needed to train The World because Stands are latent from birth so DIO had the potential to unlock it back when he was a human and he would get a maximum of 5 seconds. Because he became a vampire then unlocked his Stand, it still had limits set on it because it was intended to be used by a human. Given time, it would allow him to break past the 5 second limit with training as it acclimatised to having a vampire as it's user. Jotaro can't ever stop time for more than 5 seconds at all ever unless he becomes a vampire since it's so incredibly stressful on the body and spirit. He says it's exhausting to stop time even for those 2 seconds, a problem DIO doesn't have since he can't ever be tired.
