I agree with everything you said. For years now i only find one or two good anime shows a year. And those are the good years.

Some times i do settle for less though because one can't expect something like this or Baccano every year.

I get your point anon, but an anime can be good and not necessary be for adults.
it's funny that an anime that can be considered "boring" is for adults meanwhille the hentai/harem ones are for boys

Even then, there are shitloads of shows out there for adults, but some people don't get it because there's no killing or drama.

Why do these people even watch anime? They'd love American TV.
>>
>>141351435
>but an anime can be good and not necessary be for adults
Sorry I didn't wanted to imply that. I also enjoy other animes. I like Konosuba very much for example.
But lets say it is a generational thing then. The adults right now haven't grown up with anime or computer games. So I guess when we will be 40 something will will be able to enjoy shows like Flying witch, or even the occasional good harem anime.
>>
>>141350907
Seinen and shounen are manga demographics, they describe what kind of magazine the manga is serialized in. A manga that's serialized in a shounen magazine, which is aimed primarily at schoolboys, is called a "shounen manga," and if it gets an anime adaptation we call it a "shounen anime" because it's adapted from a shounen manga. If the anime isn't adapted from manga then at best you can only guess which demographic it'd fall into if it were a manga. Most anime-originals and LN/VN adaptations do get manga adaptations too, but they are often very different from the anime so it's hard to compare. Example: Cowboy Bebop's manga adaptation was published in a shoujo magazine.

Also seinen is a far broader demographic than you give it credit for. A lot of the girly SoL shows /a/ fawns over are seinen.

Kaminaga's story. For the first time we see someone that can measure up to the Jokers in terms of deviousness, and the endgame setup is cool as hell. Plus, we see again how the theme of playing a different game than the rest of the players is reinforced - Kaminaga and Marks thought he was on a mission to contact anti-British elements, while what Yuuki really wanted was getting a spy caught due to Foreign Ministry fuckups in order to force change there.
>>
>>141351734
There's no way to know, but it feels like a seinen show. You can't even use the manga adaptation as a general idea because the magazine they published it in doesn't have a declared demographic and the titles are all over the place.

Future works like joker game will become fewer. But the bubble known as DVD/BD in Japan is bursting. And it'll mainly become legal streaming sites for anime. That's why I think if you support the industry, shows you foreigners hate " moeshit " will become fewer while shows like joker game will start increasing. >【Director Nomura’s Introduction Corner 2】Presenting lieutenant colonel Yūki

The spy master controlling the D Agency

The mysterious man who created a spy agency within the military ranks who claimed “Spies are a cowardly and despicable existence”.

In episode 2, Sakuma pointed out that his left hand is artificial, however in the books Yuki also made sure to not move his fingers. Even when picking up Muto’s cigarette case, he only slightly moved his thumb to lift it up.

No one knows what he’s thinking or how far his plans go, but the root of his trust? in all the agency members is his notion of “doing what is expected”.

He assigns them with difficult missions.

Like Fukumoto he acts out as a “man who never smiles” so his smile is very precious. He originally belonged to the army, so he would disclose their tricks to Sakuma, who was caught up in the game; you see a considerate side of him towards Sakuma.

Due to his upbringing as a soldier, he has a habit of looking straight into his senior officer’s eyes whenever he talks to them.

By smoking tobacco with his jacket over his shoulder, he puts up a cool front.

Yeah, you can see that from the fact that people jumped on the Sakuma/Miyoshi train pretty quickly despite the fact they only had few scenes together.

It's like, everyone is ready to draw over 9999 doujins of these hot men in suits but the material is lacking.

Honestly, this show feels really pseudo-intellectual.

While this episode wasn't as cringeworthy as the previous one, it felt pretty barebones in terms of relevance to the greater scheme of things and made the antagonist seem very inept for an elite GRU agent (just like the British last episode).

Also the line about spies being useless in wartime is completely false and seemed very ignorant from a person who is supposed to be a high-functioning, intelligent sociopath.

Is Western anime piracy actually much of a problem? I know most of us don't use legal streaming sites or buy Western releases of BDs/DVDs but I assumed we were in the minority. 16 more days until broadcast

Odagiri (CV Hosoya Yoshimasa)

Tazaki: What about the wire used to kill the women?

Odagiri: That possibility is very low.

First Lieutenant Sakuma: And why do you say that?

Odagiri: The estimated time of death for the targets occurred when the two of them were in the middle of a rehearsal, the person in question could have been the out of sight.

Miyoshi: Hmph… When all’s said and done, you’re going to become a fictional detective by challenging a possible murderer in a closed room case?

>Or will it stay at 1 show per year?

Most likely. As much as I would like more mature anime for mature viewers like myself, anime's bread and butter is otakubait. Though fujobait is starting to make a big push into the industry as well, at the end of the day it's the same shit with a different name, and won't be anywhere near what you would call "adult". The sad truth is that mature shows don't usually make much money, so it's more of a labor of love on the part of the studio making it than it is an actual money making venture. A lot of studios go by the tried and true method of "churn out half a dozen shit adaptations or pandering shows so we can make one show we actually want to create", and even then the shows they actually want to make are oftentimes not adult ones, but rather more of the same.

The twist was neat and the way the spy almost didn't want to give up his newly acquired friendship was great.

This is like the Rakugo of this season. The best anyone can do to besmirch this is minor nitpickery, it's really cozy and it helps that this espionage stuff isn't boring. Honestly, the first episode was the toughest to get through because of the internal headgames but it's been great ever since. This is the show I look most forward to every week this season after Kyoukai no Rinne, which only gets the leg up on Joker Game by being in its second season.
>>
>>141375944
>This is like the Rakugo of this season.
But this isn't over rated mediocre melodrama wanked by the same faggots who think that pretending Ping Pong was good means they have taste in anime despite not actually knowing or appreciating the medium.
>>
>>141375944
Rakugo is significantly better written than this. Joker Game has potential and I really want to like it, but it has poor execution (the 'episodic mystery resolved by exposition' format needs more hints along the way to work) and is kind of meandering and directionless so far. Rakugo had no issues with the structure or direction and also had stand out visuals, voice acting and OST.
>>
It's alright. It has decent story and animation. Really, it fucked up because it's just episodic stuff. It's basically a slice of life spy series. If it had a connected story about the MC from the first episode it would have been better.
>>
>>141376290
Rakugo had run of the mill josei romantic drama and homo undertones, which idiots confuse for refined story telling. Episodic story telling is only unappreciated by plebs. You sound like a pleb.
>>
>>141376485
The problem isn't the episodic format. It's the fact the show feels the need to word out every fucking little detail to us like we're idiots.
>>
>>141375944
Rakugo was actually well-directed though.
>>
>>141376628
>It's the fact the show feels the need to word out every fucking little detail to us like we're idiots.
No, just the non-intuitive stuff. There were still plenty of people asking questions after the trap episode. Explaining the linchpin of a mystery isn't over-explaining, it's how mystery works. What you're doing is akin to complaining that Sherlock Holmes explains the part of the killer's plan he deduced that no one else could figure out.

>>141376693
The directing was very much average. Episodes 3 and 4 of Joker Game were definitely better.
>>
>>141376485
Episodic format is not bad but the internal structure of each episode is not done well in Joker Game, for the aforementioned reasons regarding the exposition and lack of hints in the set up.

Rakugo was beautifully executed regardless of how 'run of the mill' the drama was, you're obviously just being contrarian.
>>

This is how muh mature anime fags actually believe.
I am enjoying the show a lot, it is something else than the basic cute girls in high school with one boy having deus ex machina etc. But to call this mature is just bull shit.
1) The plots are short. Schemes are simple. There is no strategy and planning. Its all about crisp deduction, nothing is fuzzy.
2) Killing enemies would reduce their resources. But no, we must no guns because getting killed is bad. They are leaving witnesses behind. Leaving alive allows enemies to identify target for assassination. Nice job, was it not the worst option to get killed.
3) All the enemies are hue hue level. Spy fucking master of the matafakin 007 country does not spot the logical fallacy of soldiers having cleared the rooms from bottom to top, but not finding the enemy. They leave a spot open to search up stair, instead of blocking the exit. And that fucking light bulb head.

I agree. Arguing over whether a show is 'mature' or not doesn't lead to anything but pointless circlejerking, if you ask me.

> besides the dictionary should give you a very detailed explanation of the term

It's fucking obvious that a haremshit like Nisekoi is not mature as a drama like Ping Pong. What exactly is so bad about saying that one show is mature or not, being more mature isn't a sign that the show will be good.
>>
>>141390116
Everything from around 1920's is not classy as fedolards and /biz/-students believe.
The training episodes were nice. The spies lived detestable life: alcohol and fooling around in night clubs (benis in vagina :D). Then all that is pushed away and it is only about the person living the way of warrior adopting the way of spy. That happens in one episode and now we get these shallow kids coloring book tier stuff.

>infantile
>>141390333
The anime in general is not infantile. Most shows are easy, for tired people. They are more mature than this show. MATURE people are tired BY thinking at WORK. Most of it is though for young people at high school, but the same applies.
>>
>>141391338
I don't want the dictionary's definition, I want YOUR definition. What, precisely, makes one anime mature, and another immature?
>>
>>141391511
You'll never be famous.
>>
Characteristics in an anime suggestive of "maturity":
>Does not adopt a simple, reductive, or sanitised view of life/human beings.
Might manifest in nuanced characters, complex story, lack of melodrama/cliché, unsettling themes treated non-sensationally
>Engages the viewer's thought, rather than mindlessly titillating base senses (doesn't mean it can't be titillating at all)
Might manifest in a subtle or experimental directorial style, storytelling prioritised over spectacle/fanservice/cuteness

I think that's it, covering both content and presentation.
It's possible for something to have both mature and immature characteristics, and in different amounts. Joker Game might not have hyperactive horny teenagers' panties flashing in your face, but it's also a series of "Look how cool these spies are, wow!" stories. Draw your own conclusions.
>>
>yfw unit 731 episode
>>
>>141392096
This is the answer I was looking for, thank you.
>>
Let me add to my message: >>141391393
>The spies lived detestable life
This made at least me assume that the motivator of spies are hedonistic to some degree. I would be interested in their set of mind. And what changes happened to that soldier guy? Why? Now we know that he does not want to be a pawn for corrupt officers. But does he also now live in same detestable way as other spies? There is so many questions, but all we get is how the superior training of D-agents aka. dicklings allows them to be always right.

best regards

Can you imagine Section D investigating a series of disappearances in Japanese occupied Korea, then stumbling upon Unit 731 all by themselves? Considering that the Imperial army wants them gone, it makes sense they'd be out of the loop in terms of the Units operations, and wouldn't automatically know why so many people were disappearing.

Setting is cool, execution is terrible and it's full of dumb stuff.
>wear a glove on one hand turn attention away from the other hand being prosthetic
really?
>>
>>141390369
I'm pretty sure that a lot of the time when people say "mature" they actually mean that it's something that when judged by Western standards, it seems like it's aimed at adults. So it's "mature" on a shallow level, like in tone or atmosphere and/or with less of the anime tropes that some people think are "immature", like fanservice and cute stuff.
>>
>>141397534
>really?
Yes really. He gave his persona a few very distinct character traits so that if he ever needed to drop it and run, he wouldn't stick out. How stupid are you that you think that falls under the umbrella of terrible execution or dumb stuff?

>>
>>141398263
>Have you ever seen a prosthetic hand?
I've worked in medicine before, so yes. There are very convincing ones out there, and if the person also has a limp, a cane and is dressed funny, you probably aren't going to notice the hand if you're not looking for it.

The only definition of "mature" my dictionary lists that could apply to media is:
>• (of a style) fully developed: Van Gogh's mature work.
I don't think that's what you mean, so you'll have to furnish your own definition.
>>
This show isn't even good. Episode 1&2 where barely averahe but 3,4 and 5 have been a total cluster fuck on uninteresting and pretentious ideas and story telling.

This is actually worse than kiznaiver and re:zero.
>>
>>141401756
Miwa's said on his twitter that they had to cut out a lot of stuff from each episode to make it fit into one cour. The anime's just novel shilling anyways, it doesn't matter even if the episodes are a clusterfuck because they just want you (Japan) to get interested enough to buy the novel.
>>
>>141401917
But the novel has chicks and not enough cute animated boy spies so I don't care
