because one day i was rolling by just listening to dope beats on my walkman cd player and saw this ぼろぼろ lookin お嬢ちゃん laying in a gutter 半死半生 and i couldnt just leave her there

after i fed her some パン she regained some strength and was able to 話す

she said in a rather 弱い voice 「俺わニッ・・いやじゃなくて 私の名前はdjtなのです」

and from there began a new chapter in both of our 生活s lol

Really if you think about it, is there much difference between a woman using shit like excessive makeup and outfit design and all that shit to make herself look beautiful, and an artist drawing a 2D girl to be as beautiful as they want?

If it's nice to look at then I'll enjoy looking at it, whether it's considered to be fake or not
>>

The problem is more that with heavy makeup it creates a specific extra fake look.

If they do makeup to look natural then it's not as bad and probably closer to your analogy.

He's basically telling you to use RTK. I took the RTK and highly recommend it since it made learning vocabulary and its readings very easy.
>>
>>141319042
The answer lies in anime you should watch it and uncover the truth for yourself
>>141319174
As far as I can tell from my great anime experience you are correct
>>
>>141319042
The whole article is basically just "do RTK". You won't be able to read Japanese with RTK alone. It just makes learning vocab easier and teaches you to write.
>>
>>141319033
I'm fairly sure it's used in the sense of "derail" in that sentence.
>>
>>141319042

>>
>>141319042
>This guide https://nihongoshark.com/learn-kanji/ is bait or can be a good way to learn kanji?
since it is basically describing RTK, it's genuine. The thing is that RTK doesn't teach you the kanji, just keywords to remember them. If you only want to read kanji but not learn Japanese, won't help shit. Don't think you can do that anyway since a kanji has more than 1 reading.

This thread is useless for questions because there are so many shitposters who just post bad answers for the "lulz".
Just bookmark the CoR and then close the thread and go read a bunch and if you don't understand something just don't worry about it. Not understanding it is better than understanding it wrong because you get trolled by this thread.

Or just go to reddit since they are a better Japanese learning community at this point.

As a non-native English speaker, doesn't RTK actually hurt my learning? Should I just create mnemonics in my own language?
>>
>>141321113
It depends... If you stop using memes, blogging, using stupid unnecessary images you can expect results in 1-2 months. If you don't, well, you will remain in your current state of rapid brain degradation for about 4-5 months. I don't think I need to tell you what will happen after that. Take care!

Must be really hard living with such a deficient brain.
More time does not equal more learning. You can be a retard and do handwriting in anki, spend 3 hours doing let's say 40 kanji per day + reviews or you can be a smart person (like me) and do it in 30 minutes and spend the rest of your time on handwriting/reading/jerking off.

If you are at less than 50% correct, you are forgetting more than your are learning. You could say you are actually "unlearning" Japanese. There is something seriously wrong with your approach. In these cases it is usually doing stupid amount of new cards while you're still very new to kanji. Turn off new cards until that 30% becomes ~80%.

feels good to be back into the swing of things, doing 100 a day to catch back up to where I left off just over 1 year ago, nice to see I can remember reasonably well considering I've had 0 exposure to Japanese in that time.

I'm almost sure I will have to drop the new card amount soon seeing as yesterday was in the 90%, but I have to admit I feel that doing the 20 a day I was doing before was too slow.

There is a possibility though that I can maintain 100+ as long as I put the time in and how effective my new ADHD meds are, I actually enjoy doing anki.

>>
>>141338380
the trick about 50% is this:

Lapsing a card and then graduating it from relearn to young again gives you 50% retention because of how anki counts stats

Cards that you lapse over and over again also have more of an influence than other cards, so the retention stat is more of an indicator on how much time you're spending on cards that you're fucking up than how many cards you're fucking up

>>
>>141340223
Finish the Hiragana + Katakana in no less than a week. It's usually recommended to do it in just a couple days.
Just go to realkana.com and have at it until you can do all of them

You shouldn't try to "master" anything before moving on or you'll take forever. Just get good enough to where you can handle using it in the next step of studying. You should get the Kana out of the way as fast as possible and start reading up on grammar, using something like "Tae Kim's" guide for example.
>>
>>141340378
Oh, I see. Thank you for your advice, I will ramp up the pace starting tomorrow.

>>141340223
You should learn all of the hiragana in 5 hours total. If you're not able to, at least learn how to learn them - the tricks necessary to learn those simply kana will carry over to kanji down the road.

If you study 5 kana a week, jokes or memes aside, you will never learn Japanese.
>>
>>141340223
kids these days >>141341592 are so worried about things like "efficiency" and forget that life is about the journey not the destination

5 hiragana a week is reasonable because think about it like this tons of people live their lives and learn 0 things per week

in that sense youre doing pretty good

its fine to take things at your own pace because as long as its good enough for you thats all that matters

one day youll be neck deep in sideways coochie ripe with the smell of fish and pubes and where will your doubters be? mopping up your jizz lmao

I'm in a similar situation right now. Coincidentally, my correct% just dropped below 90% for the first time today too. I did the first 1000 cards in one go, then started doing 50 a day from that point on until now.

switching from iknow/nukemarine core to anonymous core 5k is the best choice i've made in japanese

i was almost done with core 2k but still couldn't read so i dropped japanese for like a month and when i came back there was a new deck

>>

>>
>>141343862
It's similar but it's made out of newspaper word frequency data and nukemarine's version of the deck reorders it so it's not in frequency order anymore.
>>
>>141343862
Not him, but the iknow/Core decks are based on which words appear most frequently in newspapers. IIRC, the data is quite old too.
>>
>>141343858
Meme deck made by an anon and posted in this thread. It's in the CoR, but don't switch to it if you're already using another deck.

I doubt you would be able to read after 900 words in it but more power to you if you can.
>>
>>141343894
So why is that one still recommended over this apparently superior anon deck? I feel rused since I'm already 900 vocab into core!

That's funny, I made the deck and I'm only 800 words in because I have bad willpower. I can only read easy eromanga and some tweets. Which is a pretty huge threshold for myself, personally, to be honest.

>>141343915
My deck is a lot newer (so it's "untested") and has no voicing. I was planning on ripping the voicing from nayr's core 5k deck (it has the same origin data, but he put a lot more work into it), but he modified some of the sentences are different. and I didn't want to deal with them.
>>
>>141343896
I just downloaded it to take a look at it. The ordering seems to be incorrect from the looks of things. I would expect it to be sorted by either the "Frequency" or "Modified Frequency" fields, but it doesn't appear to be sorted by either. It's not sorted by similar kanji either like the "optimised" Core 2K/6K deck.
>>
>>141343986
It should be sorted by modified frequency descending. What does it look like on your end?

The modified frequency field is full of duplicates.

The deck starts at modified frequency #474, then progresses until to #9, then jumps to #478 until it reaches #93214. In short, it seems to be really fucked up.

In pic related, I set the "Sort Field" to "Modified Frequency". It was "New Index" before. I haven't repositioned or rescheduled any of the cards though.
>>
>>141344090
Oh, frequency is going to have a lot of duplicates, yes. It's just an approximation of how many times the word will show up in a large chunk of text. Though that's strictly not true of the "modified" frequency. In any case, there's going to be shitloads of duplicates in the freq fields because that's how statistics work.

If you sort by "New Index" ascending, then "Modified Frequency" should descend.

Oh wait, no, I was wrong. It actually starts at #774, then goes to #618, and THEN starts at #474.
>>
>>141344128
The first card the deck gives me is 結構, which is frequency #481 and modified frequency #774, which doesn't seem right. Shouldn't the deck be giving me the cards with the highest frequency first? The order as it is seems totally random.
>>
>>141344189
Is random order enabled in deck preferences? Deck options -> New Cards tab -> Order -> Show new cards in order added
>>
>>141344206
No. Check the "Due" field in my post here: >>141344130

The "Due" field for some reason starts at 189 with the 結構 card. It ends at 5293 with 教える (frequency #290, modified frequency #478, new index #295).

Why are there so many particle and conjugation cards? That sort of thing really doesn't belong in a vocab deck since it's not the sort of thing you can properly understand just by learning to match it with an equivalent/similar English word (especially when English grammar works so much differently than Japanese grammar).

I guess one solution to that would be to switch those cards with matching cards from the DoJG, but that would make the deck a little jarring.

Hmm... it might be good if someone could make a stripped-down DoJG deck containing only the grammar from the "A Frequency Dictionary of Japanese" book. You could probably get through it in about the same amount of time that Tae Kim takes and it would, assuming the frequency data is accurate, expose you to the most frequently used grammar in the language, saving you from learning a lot of obscure stuff which you may never actually encounter from the complete DoJG deck.

It shouldn't be too hard to make either since the DoJG deck already exists and it's just a matter of deleting some cards and reordering it. The only hard part would be manually matching all the cards up; going through every card in the Anonymous Core 5000 deck by hand to check which cards have an equivalent in the DoJG deck would be quite time-consuming. Someone who knows how to program could probably make a simple script to automate it though.

Putting aside that one can read manga pretty effectively earlier than that, it's just a matter of facts anon.
1 - The majority of manga translators are poor.
2 - This will not change due to the bulk of untranslated manga, the speed of new manga being released, and the difficulty/time consumption of learning Japanese (for translators), the inherent problems with translating Japanese (see: that essay one anon wrote), and more.
3 - Therefore, if someone chooses not to learn Japanese, they deserve the poor translations, because their existence is an undeniable fact that will continue to be a fact. They have two choices and they choose the poor translations. No matter how reasonable that choice is, no matter how "unrealistic" the other choice is (less than you think), the ultimate fact is they CHOSE the poor translations. Thus, they deserve them.

In an ideal world translations would not be bad. In an ideal world one could not learn Japanese and still enjoy competent translations. This is not an ideal world. It's hard facts that if one chooses not to learn Japanese they are willfully dooming themselves to shitty translations. Thus, they deserve it.

The Core2k/6k/10k decks are far better for actual beginners compared to Nayr's deck, which contains often a much higher degree of structural difficulty, slight errors here and there, which a beginner would be oblivious of, and far more nuanced choice in, er "basic vocab" which a beginner is going to have a far rougher time working through in comparison to the Core2k/6k/10k decks which have been optimised in kanji groups which allow for easier passive picking up of readings that make the overall vocab study a lot easier compared to other frequency lists, etc.

For beginners, I wouldn't recommend the anonymous modified or Nayr's "core 5000" deck, though I might recommend it for anons who have a base knowledge of the language but have let their studies lapse for a fair while.

>but fairly accurate translations are attacked because they read a little awkwardly in English.
Then they aren't fairly accurate translations. Good translation shouldn't be remotely awkward, it should be fluid.
>>
>>141350651
>Then they aren't fairly accurate translations. Good translation shouldn't be remotely awkward, it should be fluid.
Translations have two parts: the translation itself and the editing. I said an "accurate" translation, which can be awkward. It's the editing which would remove the awkwardness to read well. In fan translations, there is often no editor, so translations often read awkwardly. Because of this, translations are judged not on the "translation" factor but of how well translators "self edit", ignoring the part I think actually matters more. Better to have an accurate awkward translation than an inaccurate but fluid translation (not talking about liberal translations here by the way, I mean straight up objectively wrong TLs like >>141349559)

How is the Imabi guide? It looks to be a lot more comprehensive than Tae Kim (it seems to even cover classical Japanese in some depth), but is it reliable?

I gave up on learning Japanese about half a year ago, but I'm just starting back at it again. I've been re-familiarising myself with vocab through Core for the past week, but I'm not sure what to do about grammar. I know I need to refresh my memory, but the prospect of reading through Tae Kim again feels rather tedious and I'm not sure that I'd get much out of it beyond a memory refresher. I think it might be more beneficial, and not to mention interesting, to read another guide which might cover some new material and present what I already know from a different perspective.

It's normal, I'm doing the same
>>
>>141352813
It's even more tedious than Tae Kim. Why not do the DoJG deck?
>>
>>141352813
It is more comprehensive. Being more comprehensive is not necessarily a good thing for getting you into reading.
Tae Kim is pretty shit too desu so probably just do >>141352977
>>
>>141352969
Cool.
>>141352944
No I gave up on RTK, it felt really tedious that I had to memorize 10 different ways to say one word
>>
>>141352944
I'm chinese though so I can at least have a decent guess on what the word means
>>
>>141352885
Then decrease the new cards per day you silly fuck
>>
>>141352977
I've been doing it, but even though I haven't gotten very far into it I've already come across numerous cards with errors in them.

The DoJG deck is also tedious and seemingly about twice as long as Imabi (DoJG deck has 629 cards, while Imabi's site has "only" 300 lessons).

>>141353067
>Tae Kim is pretty shit too
I agree. I found a lot of his explanations pretty confusing and kept having to consult the DoJG for a proper explanation of what he was talking about.
>>
Core 10k is really taking a toll on me. I've been doing 200 new words a day and the number of reviews grows even bigger each day. Right now I'm spending close to 4 hours a day doing vocab in addition to 2 hours a day on Tobira.
>>
>>141353337
>I'm doing something that's fucking retarded and it isn't working out
Wow what a surprise
>>
I'm taking forever to finish Tae Kim. Grammar is tedious

I'm supposed to do that Dojg anki deck thingie after I complete it, right?

>I'm supposed to do that Dojg anki deck thingie after I complete it, right?
You don't have to. Strictly speaking, the DoJG is intended to be a look-up resource for when you encounter something that you don't understand while reading. The deck is replete with mistakes (wrong/missing kana and kanji) so I'm not sure that it's even a good idea to use it.

I believe it was transcoded automatically via some software which reads letters/characters from PDFs. There's a public QC for error reporting but nobody seems to use it.
>>
>>141353475
I remember loling at that. I need to start working on that deck again. Is the iPhone app worth $30?
>>
>>141353538
I did RTK and I'm using mnemonics for both kanji reading and meaning. I'm getting 80% consistently on anki everyday.
>>
>>141353403
No, it's actually working out really well. I've been seeing a lot of progress every day and I never drop below 80% on anki. It's just very time consuming, but I have no life, so that's okay.
>>

>>
>>141354124
>>141354073
I guess you're good then. How long did it take for RTK?
>>
>>141354188
I took my time with RTK and finished it in 3 months, but it felt really disappointing because I still didn't know how to read jack shit afterwards. But it was definitely worth it for learning vocab. I can churn out mnemonics like crazy and it's actually pretty fun seeing what kind of stories I can make for each new word.

Hi, my Japanese level is zero but I've always wondered: when people are cheering on each other they use the word (or what i seem to hear) "fureee" "fureee" a lot, like when waving pom-poms around and stuff.

What word is this? Wave?

Just remember that if it's not -eru or -iru, it's a u-verb for sure. For everything else, it's just experience.
>>
>>141356502
Why did you make this retarded post? Do you think anyone here cares about your disabilities?
>>
>>141356537
This guy is trolling. -eru can be u-verbs pretty often.
>>
>>141356502
Here's the thing: You don't have to remember any of those for reading. It's only for writing. You should still go over them so they're in your subconscious but don't stress it.

>>
Why does core keep making my anki crash these days?
>>
>>141356569
Please re-read what I said. I didn't say -eru can't be u-verbs. I said that if it's NOT -eru or -iru, then it's a u-verb.
>>
>>141356502
There are no verbs in Japanese. Only う、る、く、ぐ etc
>>
>>141356628
But -eru can be u-verbs. That's why I said you are trolling or maybe you are just stupid, who knows.
>>
>>141356661
Are you trolling? -eru can obviously be u-verb. If it's not -eru or -iru (like -aru or -oru) then it's definitely a u-verb. Maybe you should try learning English first.
>>
>>141356707
Exactly, which is why I'm saying you are stupid for promoting false information. -eru and -iru are u-verbs most of the time. Stop spreading lies please.
>>
>>141356763
Read what I originally posted because it wasn't false information. I didn't say they were mutually exclusive. I said that if it's -aru or -oru then it's a u-verb 100% of the time. I never said once that if it's -eru then it's a ru-verb. Are you fucking retarded?
>>
Since DJT is no longer "daily" and we have multiple threads per day, I propose we change the name to

What do you think?

That isn't true either. I have seen multiple confirmed cases of -aru acting as a u-verb. I'm not retarded but I think you might be.

>>141356502
>so many exceptions that there's no point even learning the rules to begin with
What?

Japanese is the language with the least exceptions I've encountered so far.

If you think that three irregular verbs is something to complain about you obviously never even took a glance at French.

>>
>>141356881

Maybe it's only because I'm good at it after about five years of learning, but German is nowhere near as full of shit as Japanese. You're right, though, French is something I've never looked at. And when I said exceptions, I meant exceptions for classifying a verb as ru or u, not suru iku and kuru.

If all you want to do is read you don't need to worry about verb types. As long as you can recognize which tense it is (and it's simple to do so) then you don't need to know it.

>>141357031
Sounds like it got wiped at some point like what happened to the film tab recently. I'd be interested in having a group effort to reupload games, so long as it's not one guy doing all of it.

>>
>>141358139
This doesn't really prove anything. You can just learn the kanji in vocab when you can't differentiate them, which is maybe like one every 100 vocab.
>>
>>141358274
No, I did the wanikani deck ages ago. I suggested RTK because wanikani has been memed to death
>>
>>141358319
But you learned Kanji before attempting to learn vocabulary?
>>
>>141358347
I studied the 1700 wanikani kanji before starting my mining deck, yes. However I did the wanikani kanji and vocab at the same time, so I learned 1700 vocab in that same time period.
