we don't exactly know WHAT form he was using against the androids and Cell, since prior to that, we never saw him use the advanced SS forms with short hair.
It's just logical to assume that he was full powered SS, rather than SS2 because A) no sparks, and B) everyone else's hair sticks up a lot more as SS2, and his hair is basically the same amount of lift as his original SS transformation, just more defined locks of hair.
However, we know he is 3-5 years older than when he was in the Cell games, so he logically should be at least SS2.
But, then again, Toriyama wants to phase out SS2, so maybe he'll just be a max powered SS1

I never said good, and you missed the point. Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z while not necessarily the best (or good by whatever definition you use) always had a certain charm to it. Super on the other hand just feels like a lazy cash grab. One could certainly argue/points to the original or Z where they showed signs too, but even when toriyama introduced a new form or villain they had a charm and uniqueness to them.
Super is just reused, rehashed, and recolored ideas. It has lost the charm, that made his previous works enjoyable and fun despite not being the best or "good".

I honestly stopped watching the anime around episode 8, but I still read the manga which is good (compared to the anime) albeit incomplete in the story to keep pace with the show.
I read about what happens and watch webms of the show, but it is just visually unpleasant to watch.
Super (relatively speaking) hasn't had that bad of a story and has been enjoyable. The main problem is that there hasn't been a good way to enjoy it. For example:

Imperfect cell is a bad comparison because by the time Cell absorbed all those humans, he was stronger than Super Namekian Piccolo, before which he only narrowly escaped Piccolo killing him. Piccolo was stronger than 17 after the fusion with Kami. After Vegeta and Goku, we know Piccolo and Buu are at least the strongest. We know of course 18 is stronger than Krillin (strongest human), Tien, and Yamcha (as if there's any doubt). Here's an interesting fact: the reason 18 can train and get stronger is because a majority of her cybernetic enhancements are actually closer to biological ones, patterned on human tissues. It's also why Cell can absorb them, and because of that 17 and 18 age exceptionally slowly. 18 doesn't actually even need to eat, just stay hydrated.

Expanding on this: it's possible Marron could have inherited some of those traits. Not to the same degree as her mother, but she could potentially age slower and not require as much food to function as a normal person (fuck, aging slower might actually explain a lot).
