I could not finish watching it while it was airing in Japan. I tried again when it was announced that it would be on Toonami, and finished it.

It should be noted that the dub was just plain awful. Felt like they heard Ryuko was a tomboy and the director said "say no more, we got this" only to fuck up the protagonist's voice, a big deal, if you ask me. After the first episode, I immediately went back to subs and just watched it at my own pace.

Watching Kill la Kill was like paying two hobos to fight to the death. It's fun in the moment but you look back at it and regret what you did just a little.

It's a good show with good themes that lost its focus by becoming bigger in a world we knew nothing about. When there's an alien invasion in a world that feels completely different from our own and doesn't resemble it, how is the audience suppose to care?

I feel likes it's the direct opposite of TTGL in many ways.

Men are boring but aim high, for the heavens. This is how they are defined, but must also accept those around them for moral support.
Women are interesting but are kept down by the social structures and must learn to over come it and embrace them.

I don't find either show shallow, overall I just find the contrast of the two sexes interesting. TTGL has an interesting universe and plot but shallow characters. KlK has a shallow universe (we know literally nothing about the world and the bit we know from the school invasion tells us nothing) but has interesting characters, or at least much more interesting than the ones in KlK.

So, a spiral, a duality. Two sides. Two sexes. Both shallow but not. KlK is simply the TTGL for girls by being the opposite.

I have no idea what was up with this show but it became one of the most entertaining 4chan fads. Shit about this show was being spewed left and right with multiple boards discussing it. The endless discussion and memes really made the show feel like a much bigger experience than it actually was. I still remember how /v/ and /a/ were probably the biggest boards to discuss it and everyone got butthurt whenever they thought a person from /v/ was discussing it on /a/. Then, to top it all off the mods actually created a fucking 2000+ reply sticky on /a/ just for the final episode.
Those were truly magical times.

I feel Imashi is stronger suited to direct shows like Luluco. The short runtime means that each scene has to have impact and also an actual cohesive storyline so episodes can transfer from one to another without losing sight of the overarching plot. Kill la kill is a good example of the opposite where some episodes are stronger than others while the bad episodes are absolutely terrible mainly because they didn't stay on task or felt out of place. But we'll have to wait see, I thought Luluco was going to turn to shit but it is surprisingly fun

KLK is actually a pretty well developed commentary on feminism and the pressures that a young girl is put through as she grows up. The women in KLK gain power through their sexuality and showing off their bodies, with the overall message of telling girls to be responsible with the "power" they're given. Ragyo could be said to represent the fashion industry, encouraging young girls dress like sluts and use their sexuality in irresponsible and destructive ways. It's no coincidence that everyone on Ragyo's team masturbates, are constantly horny, and literally rape other women. That's one of the major problems. The finale was full of out-of-nowhere swerves that were used to completely neutralize other out-of-nowhere swerves which were themselves used to deal with other other out-of-nowhere swerves.

One of my personal least favorites, because it could have been actually good if it were just handled better, was when Senketsu could suddenly absorb life fibers and using that to undo the Ragyo's plan with her own unique powers. This could have been a clever and well-foreshadowed event... if it had happened ~after~ Ryuuko defeated the villain, instead of it being ~how~ she won a seemingly hopeless battle. It was already shown frequently that Senketsu could absorb other life fibers in several previous episodes.

The problem is, they completely changed how the ability worked. In every other case, a life fiber from a defeated enemy drifted into Senketsu, implicitly making it stronger; then suddenly it's able to absorb the strength and powers of other Life Fiber beings just by being in contact with them, which conveniently means that all of Ragyo's attacks were useless all along. It doesn't even matter that the Scissor Blade turns out to be useless and easily shattered for no clear reason, because Ryuuko and Senketsu's new ability was just what they needed to win with no real effort.

Most of Ryuuko's new powers made sense, being variants of Senketsu's ability to change his shape. It makes sense that he can suddenly create spiny buzzsaw blades, extend arm blades when they don't have a weapon, or even expand his shoulder jets into a full array of flight-capable rockets.

The life fiber absorption thing is something else entirely. That came pretty much out of nowhere to let them effortlessly overcome an implausibly unbeatable foe. Worse, it's only the last in a sequence of new powers and techniques (by heroes and villains alike) that have similarly little logic and even less impact.

I've tried to watch it a few times but never could get into it. I heard it's a pretty generic fun/ecchi show with a deeper meaning about some era in Japan. Unless you care about deep shit you won't notice it's up to what you like to decide if you wanna watch this.

For me yes!
Still this is only my personal opinion.
But the feeling it gave me, the anticipation even if I predicted basically everything, all of that was worth it.
I still like to rewatch it.
I crave this feeling it gave, only few anime gave me this.
And the way I felt for Ryukou was also really rare.
So for me it is a really great one.

I am still angry that one of the most recommended buyfag shops cancelled my preorder of three figures when the figures released, because they accepted too many preorders, without making sure that they get enough.
I basically preordered the moment it was possible, but they apologized and said they hope I can get it now elsewhere.
Sure fuckers that is going to work now after release.
