Considering the way nen is empowered by emotions and all that shit, it's possible projecting it out makes it even stronger. He could just convert his aura into heat without launching it upwards but by projecting it he gets a boost from the Sun imagery. It's not just heat, it's the scorching heat of the Rising Sun.

Kind of like Shalnark's nen. Logically, conjuring a phone and conjuring/emitting antenna should be meaningless complications for a manipulation power, but they give the nen conditions and imagery that make it stronger overall.
