that's not the problem with chinese marital arts, the problem is that their specific predictive techniques are things developed in a cultural bubble. It has been centuries and centuries of styles developed specifically to counteract the techniques of that one rival style down the road. There's a certain threshold in things like fight sports where investment into fighting technique really just stops paying off. You can basically just be big enough and have a working FOOS to get by and you'll only have to worry about guys bigger than you.

It has to do with using the right plants for the heat source or something, I dunno, I'm a historian not a metalworker.
