Because Batou specifically asked the Major why she doesn't switch to a male body. Why would you ask someone who is a girl to switch to a male body? It makes more sense he was asking because he knows the Major is a dude and finds his ghost in a male body to be weird and questionable.

But her fighting skill doesn't really stem from her physical strength. She benefits from being agile and nimble. This is unlike Batou who generally takes a head-on approach to combat.

Besides that, there's no real reason why she would be stronger in a male body. With prosthetics, they can fit plenty of "muscle" into a slimmer female frame. I don't know if Batou is stronger than Motoko, but I do think Batou would kick her ass.

I agree, she doesn't act like much of a woman. But that just goes to show she has the behavior/ghost of a man. She uses a female body but she's not actually female so she doesn't fit the stereotypes.

Admittedly I've only seen SAC so maybe I'm just talking out my ass. In that part of season 2 she said something about when she was a kid, but I don't necessarily remember her saying she was a girl. The watch she wears is feminine, though maybe that was her mother's or a friend's watch. I don't know.
