I'm not sure that Despera's the kind of thing that is possible to 'hype'. I just really want it to be released however good or otherwise it turns out.

I'm losing hope though. It's been so long without any word of what's going on that I wouldn't be surprised if it does officially get cancelled.

At Overload 2014, ABe announced that a new director was found to continue working on Despera.

I will dump here some Despera artwork from ABe.

It makes me so sad this never came to be. Raidou games gave me a love for that 1920's Japan setting and I'd love to see more stuff in that setting. Was the light novel any good?

Well I think the project was initially put on-hold because he was sick and they were waiting for him to get better, so I don't think he was ever going to have a chance to finish it himself in the first place.

It was a lot easier to get ABe/Ueda/Nakamura projects made back in the late 90/s/early 2000s when there were studios like Madhouse willing to take a chance on weird, artsy stuff that wasn't going to make them much money. I can't imagine there are too many studios/directors interested in spearheading a project that's almost guaranteed to not turn a profit.

I'm sure there are some, but unfortunately they're swallowed by the overwhelming mentality of the industry.
