I can definitely see why they narrow down the episodes to more straightforward avenues. Ace Attorney cases have a habit of meandering all over the place, which is fine if you're playing them yourself, but can be boring as shit just to watch; Whole episodes would be dedicated to plot points that are just dropped in the face of new evidence.

Without a doubt, tho, best part of the show is these original scenes covering interactions that couldn't be detailed with just sprites. Nick and Maya shenanigans are top tier, and the buildup for case 4 with Von Karma is primo too.

My hope is that this series does well enough (seems to be popular on broadcast TV in Nipland) that an all-original series can follow, with just extra cases or other slice of life things in between the big stuff.

So wait I'm having trouble remembering something in the game, In Episode 1 of the anime Phoenix's friend shows up in a flashback yelling "Objection!" while everyone in class is accusing Phoenix of stealing or whatever but i thought the one that helped Phoenix was actually Edgeworth saying something like "Don't you think he deserves a fair trial?"

Edgeworth only did it because his father was an awesome defense attorney and Edgeworth believed in fair trials and after Edgeworth holds a small class room trial that saves Phoenix it sets in motion the whole reason Phoenix became a defense attorney only to later find out the kid that saved him and wanted to become a great defense attorney became a prosecuting attorney instead.
