I have no idea how anyone can get that impression off of Gash of all series.
Characters regularly get new abilities to keep things fresh, most fights revolve around tactics and strategy, side-character are interesting and relevant throughout the series, fights have actual consequences (characters dying and stuff) etc.

Gash is one of the better written battle shounen manga out there.

The Abilities are just bigger versions of Zakeru or stronger lightning(like Baou Zakeruga), when he uses the shield spell it always get broken and he never uses his magnetic spell beyond when he first gets it.

All the enemy attacks tend to be big beams as well with no real variation.

There's a ton of variation.
Actually, Gash is pretty consistent with the different movesets. Most characters have shields, enhancements and different special attacks. Then there's the characters that have gimmick powers.
I really liked the guy who only had physical enhancements, but had to stall for time until he could move on to the next gear or Kyanchome who had to rely on illusions and transformations.
It was pretty cool that there's actually was a system in place for the spell names, with different pre- and suffixes in according to the type of spell.

I don't really know what say, since it's just plain wrong. At the very least Gash isn't more repetitive than similar series. If you're not into the genre then it's probably not for you.

It takes awhile for the larger arcs to come along. That's pretty common for those kind of series. Gash's story has some pretty well-executed emotional pay-offs in the later volumes.
