Back in the days of Bake and Nise, she was more of the shy, pseudo little sister character who was used more to teach Araragi a lesson (you can't save everyone) than to be a regular cast member. It was when SS hit that changed things up drastically.

As we all know, when spooky sleeves gave the white bracelet to her, she thought she had another oddity on her hand (also as we know, it was an "illusion" - sort of a cheap ending, in my opinion). This allowed her a way to sort of vent all of her personal problems out.

Many people hate her because she's a bitch, but I'd like to play devil's advocate. She was supposed to be class rep of a class filled with kids who'd literally kill each other over trivial things such as love (how she got attacked in the first place). Even the staff depended on her to do her job, which she clearly did not have a snowball's chance at performing correctly. Her "snap" is a vent of internal frustration, angry at everyone living in a state of eternal awkwardness that constantly claws at you. Honestly, I'd start to go insane if I were back in school and had to enter a place where everybody distrusted and even hated each other.

In terms of her "cuteness", it's hypocritical from a viewer's perspective to hate her despite people loving a character like Bird because of her cuteness or her "Platinum Dance". In universe, it was very odd for me to hear that she used it to get whatever she wanted. I don't think it was her using her pros for manipulation as much as it was people assuming she was hopelessly cute and pandering to it. Her parents never really developed an interest for her, minding their own business instead of trying to connect with her - a big shame on their part.

Personally though, I feel that either the author or anime directors just don't like her. She was forgettable early on, and in SS it seemed they wanted to make her as unlikable as possible.

If Araragi passionately declares Shinobu his number one and says he doesn't care about what happens with anyone else then she would probably give in pretty quickly. Whether that's a few hours or a few weeks, I'm not sure.

If Araragi wants to still keep his relationship with Senjougahara, and have Shinobu as well, then he'll need to take a lot of time and contextualize it in a way that doesn't hurt her pride. As a one off, they could probably have sex and just call it Shinobu driving him mad with lust because she's so cool like that. There's a difference between a minor fight with kids and literally casting charms on each other to inflict severe psychological/physical damage. The snake charm had potential to kill, after all. Based on how the classroom environment was, I'm not sure that these kids have easily "forgiven and forgotten" the past events.

In terms of owning up to it and taking responsibility, the first question I would ask is, why Nadeko of all people? Her personality, if the teachers or staff even noticed, was the exact opposite of the headstrong approach needed for the role. The staff were essentially "bucking the post" because, quite frankly, they couldn't do their job properly. What did they see in her?

Sure I do. They were complete pushovers who didn't know how to raise a child correctly. It had been days since Nadeko had disappeared, and rather than form a search party, or at the least look through her stuff to see where she had gone, they acted like she was still there.

I'd say the bracelet Ougi gave her was more of the chain reaction to start things. The "illusion" of a deity kept her in that damsel in distress state, an unhealthy way to vent her problems and ultimately turn into the goddess (also of note that Ougi also told her where the talisman charm was, causing her restraints to finally break).

As a final point, Nadeko is still in middle school and is experiencing the shocking world of growing up all around her. I can accept she having an air of mischief and of slight deceit, but I can't fully accept that she's someone truly bratty (like Erwin Josef from LOGH) or someone truly evil.

I do thank you for responding with a differing viewpoint. I thought that my Nadeko critique would be lost in the circlejerk.

You are right that it didn't, but in terms of common sense, a clue, note, or bit of information could be hiding in that closet that could help shed some light on a situation. If a killer is missing, do you not check their house for clues as to where they've gone?

The two things that seem to upset people the most about Nadeko (in terms of being in your face and shocking) are the explosion in the classroom and her turning into the snake goddess. The outburst was the result of pressure being built up and then a release - I'm sure we've already discussed this in detail. The other was turning into the murderous goddess, which again makes sense seeing the effect a position of power she was handed. The craziness and lunacy of handing a child like her god-like powers multiplies the lunacy. What other crimes have been committed?

I'd also like to make of note that Nadeko is not the only one who is "dirtied" by her sins. Kanbaru is psychotic when first introduced, trying to kill Araragi as brutally as swinging him by his intestines around the room. Tsukihi is just as unstable, wanting to severely harm Araragi in Nisemonogatari after the infamous "toothbrush" scene. We forgive these characters by the same token Nadeko is shunned upon - cuteness/lewdness of the character.

I would love to see another Nadeko arc where the responsibilities of her actions are more apparent, or at the very least give some screen time to "redeem" her sins. Unfortunately, I don't see this happening any time soon.

That is horribly wrong. Nobody cared about the outburst in class. It was fun to watch.
The only consequence of it was maybe making her look like a n idiot.

She tries to make up for what she did and atone.

Snake had multiple months of plotting to kill a bunch of innocent people as cold blooded murder, not an act of passion. She kept attacking Araragi who was trying to talk to her. And the whole time, and afterwards we get no sense of remorse.
Even when she stops its is because Kaiki convinced her it's the best course of action for her, not because she realizes what she's planning to do is horrifyingly evil and wrong.
None of that is visible from snake.
