Later that morning, you're sitting around the Christmas Tree with Lise's parents. Mr. Hohenstein is pretty pleased with the antique Prussian solid gold fountain pen you and Lise got for him, which in the name of due dilligence, you already examined carefully to make sure that it really was in fact just a pen and nothing more.

"This is amazing! where did you ever find it?"

You and Lise look at one another and giggle.

"We just sort of came across it one day."

You're pretty confident that Mr. Hohenstein isn't going to be seen in public with a fountain pen of all things, and thankfully, the only other person who would recognize that pen no longer has eyes According to the news, he is set to get a face transplant, so at least things are turning out ok for him as well. Lise hands you a long, tube shaped package. You can't imagine what's inside of it, though you assume that she has a modicum of discretion that would prevent her from giving you anything too embarrassing, at least in front of her parents, You tear an end off the wrapping paper, and slide out a pair of rods with a piece of cloth wrapped around them. It appears to be a Japanese wall scroll.

"Oh, no. You didn't."

"I did. I got it for free at one of the events for performing."

You bite your lower lip. You've always wanted one of these, but you missed the release and couldn't justify paying auction house prices. You unwrap the scroll, and unroll it. It's glorious. Obviously, it can't compete with the genuine article, but it still has a beauty all of it's own. Lise grins.

"I thought you'd like it, you can put it with that figure."

Her parent's look up, "Figure? What's a figure?"

"Don't worry about it. I'll explain it later."

You aren't sure if the new running outfit you have waiting for her in another wrapped box can really compete with what she just gave you, but it's OK, because it's not a competition. With the pants you picked out for her, it's really going to be a gift for you, too.

Official Schwarzesmarken soundtrack by Roger Waters of Pink Floyd is THE soundtrack, comrades.
He`s now working on his next album about interdimensional matress travel - when he`s not busy calling out the jew.

Also, commissar Gretel and Martin were lucky to attend to the last concert of the Puhdys https://youtu.be/7FCWNS02jP4

But you can't forget the classics

Why did East Germany build T-64's when they could have built almost 3 T-62's for the price of one T-64?

The T-64 was also more expensive to maintain and field then the T-62 and it is questionable if the 125mm has significantly more power then the 115 that it would justify the cost so why?

Cause it's better? or it has capabilities that make it better at something else.

By your logic, in real life, why did the US build a bunch of F-15s when they could've had 2 A-10s for the price? A F-15E Strike Eagle goes/went for 36 million a piece, an A-10 is 20 million last I checked. And that is without getting into specialized equipment for the exact same planes, the Silent Eagle version of the F-15 goes for 105 million a piece.

The answer is that the F-15 is better. the A-10 is a plane suited for a very specific role while the F-15 can be adapted to a multitude of different situations and still be a perfectly good ground-attack aircraft.

So if it bothers you that much, assume that it's better. Even if it isn't.

>So if it bothers you that much, assume that it's better. Even if it isn't.
That's the problem.

The advantages the T-64BV have over the T-72 obr 1972 are mostly lost.

The low profile. the laminate armor is completely useless due to the BETA not using any conventional weaponry and the laser class being able to destroy the vehicle regardless of the armor.

The mobility advantage is mostly rendered moot due to the fact that the tanks are in most cases used in dug in position and rarely used in offensive maneuver warfare. They also fire while being stationary so the stabiliser difference is rarely relevent and also the that the BETA are more then barn sized targets so that even a lousy T-34/85 obr 1969 has a good chance to hit a BETA.

Both the 125mm and 115 can destroy targets beyond their effective aimed range and both are of limited use on the frontal arch of a Destroyer-class. Even the T-64's small advantage in that the commander has a remote HMG that he can operate inside the vehicle is gone because not a single T-64 was seen with a NSVT.

With all that said the T-64 is more expensive to produce, costly to operate and strains the logistic due to having more weight and complex parts to replace.

And your comparision with the F-15 and A-10 is lacking. One is a multirole plane while the other is a low and slow ground attacker.

The T-62 and T-64 are both main battle tanks and do the same job.

Soviet fleet and strategic bombers are going to be a non-factor, at least for the first couple of days.

The big question on the naval front is whether or not the Backfires can engage and disable or destroy whichever Carrier Task Force is on station in the North Sea region. How this shakes out depends a lot on what triggered the conflict; if the USSR manged to achieve some level of strategic surprise and thus had a significant number of its bombers arrayed against one CTF, they could probably do it. Then the Soviet fleet can enter the equation.

Conversely, If the U.S. (and NATO) had more naval assets in the area, the bombers have an increasingly more difficult task. The odds that enough of the Backfires survive long enough to get off the number of missiles needed to overwhelm the Ticonderoga/Arleigh Burke Aegis vessels plummets and the Soviet surface fleet becomes a 'Fleet In Being' threat for the duration.

You underestimate the sheer amount of them. Plus they are guaranteed to come with completely crazy ECM, it`s their only defence aside from whatever fighters even have the range for escort.
>>
>>140860854

I think the larger problem is that they retired the Phoenix without a replacement (or a modernization block). The ability of an 1986 F-14 to carry six missiles with ~200 km range is a big part of what makes a Tu-95 carrying Shipwrecks with ~625 km range a fairly minor threat.

>>140860894
>Plus it will be damn hard to catch all of the fleet in harbor.

The surface combatants that aren't in the harbor get to join the submarine service, though.

>>140860987

The whole production run was only ~500 aircraft, and the odds of getting all of them in one place without being noticed and precautions taken are... low.
>>
>>140861307
>~200
In ideal conditions only. Remeber the insane ECM.
Still was a great missile, of course.

>surface combatants
Depends on the type of surface combatant. Big guys will certainly bite back, plus your first attack will trigger a total war anyway.

>~500 aircraft
But long range would allow soviets to commit a lot of 95s from very distant airfields. You don`t have to start from Murmansk only, crews from Engels and maybe even Ukraine can join in.
>>
>>140861538
>You don`t have to start from Murmansk only, crews from Engels and maybe even Ukraine can join in

They need to be more-or-less synchronized for arrival, though; you can't give the interceptors a chance to even partially refuel and rearm. As easy as that might sound, one of the fundamental principals of war is that everything is FAR harder than it sounds.

When you add in the possible threat of ground-based interceptors against planes flying from as far south-east as Ukraine or Engels, the timing becomes a bit trickier.

>Depends on the type of surface combatant. Big guys will certainly bite back, plus your first attack will trigger a total war anyway.

And the situation, and what's in the neighborhood. The 'd-trackers' who were supposed to try and shadow the carrier groups only had one challenge after the war started, that being 'survive long enough to radio Moscow'.

The Kiev-class and Kirov-class would be tough cookies, but one would have to wonder whether or not Soviet High Command would put them in a position that would place them at a high probability of being lost when they were starting the war.

>In ideal conditions only. Remember the insane ECM.

Poor conditions cut both ways, though. Making a missile find its way to a target ~300 miles away on its own isn't exactly easy.

I'm also having trouble finding any information on the 95's ECM ability; I assume the would have added some at some point after the 1950 launch, but I'm not seeing much. Of course, ECM is pretty difficult to quanitize.

>Still was a great missile, of course.

It also seems somewhat unique - I'm not aware of any other deployed air-to-air missile in the same range bracket.

Apparently, there was some consideration given to a 'Sea Phoenix', which would have been a ship-launched version. If you gave it the sort of upgrades that resulted in the current ESSM, that could have come in handy.
>Still was a great missile, of course.
>>
>>140862321
There are special naval ECM variants of 95 built specifically to escort bomber formations. Goddamn thing is so huge you can put a really powerful emitter inside to just hammer the airwaves, that`s why it will be hard for interceptors to work from long ranges. Ships will be trickier, since their radar energy output is of course much greater.

Phoenix has its spuritual successor in russian R-33/37 series, which was a sort of an answer to it in the first place. There is also talk about some new thing with completely crazy range specifically to target awacses from standoff called KS-172, but no concrete information on how far it really developed yet. Still, 400km ideal ranges, holy shit.

Anon you have to understand economics and practical needs. There is no reason to build tanks, whom are lacking in BETA warfare and then try to talk about how they would be used against NATO when your very existance is important for NATO.

Then there is the whole "how many AFV can I field"

For the cost of building 100 T-64s I can build 300 T-62s. Meaning I can put 3 times as many tanks on the battlefield. It also means I can do manouver warfare and so on and be more aggresive since I have more tanks which allows me to do such things which otherwise woud be limited since I only have 100 tanks instead of 300.

An amusing tidbit on the bomber topic, from a Soviet Naval Aviator (MRA, I believe):

>A young second lieutenant, a backfire WSO fresh from the air college, asked the senior navigator of the regiment, an old major: “sir, tell me why we have a detailed flight plan to the target over the vast ocean, but only a rough dot-and-dash line across Hokkaido Island on way back?”

>"Son,” answered the major calmly, “if your crew manages to get the plane back out of the sky over the carrier by any means, on half a wing broken by a Phoenix and a screaming prayer, no matter whether it’s somewhere over Hokkaido or directly through the moon, it’ll be the greatest possible thing in your entire life!"

I see you guys are going back on forth on Sovietwank and the uberleet Soviet missiles and I'd hate to interrupt, but both sides didn't say to activate all nuclear weapons in full scale war in Europe, especially in the latter stages of the Cold War. By constast, weapon types like tactical nuclear weapons even were heavily restricted.

Also, Sweden doesn't necessarily automatically die. Now what follows is scuttlebutt I've heard from certain people combined with analysis and leaks of foreign policy stuff, but Sweden and Finland aren't actually neutral. Well in the modern day, they are more now. But during the CW, Sweden and Finland (or at least certainly the former) would join NATO, since the war would open on their fronts anyways, and we all agreed and anticipated that the Soviets would either demand subservience or war when that time came, and for sure try to seize Gotland. With Gotland, the balance of power in the Baltic Sea shifts drastically. Little did we know, but Soviet doctrine likewise called for an invasion of Sweden and Finland.

The reason it wasn't public is because Sweden and Finland's relations to each other, and to the wider world, and their publics at the time. But rest assured, Sweden is and has designed their stuff for interoperability with NATO, and they only ever practiced thwarting the Soviets.

The Anti-Ship Ballistic Missiles are probably less of a threat than usually assumed to be, because there are a lot of fundamental problems with guidance on a re-entry vehicle and because the Standard 3 Block IIA is fully capable of engaging orbital and suborbital targets.

On the other hand, there are a lot of scenarios where they could use land-based sea skimmers, which removes the window of opportunity to kill the bombers.

You have no idea about how naval warfare, or even air warfare is conducted, do you?

Numbers don't mean anything, when it's interception system's warheads are cheaper than your missiles, it's radar far superior to anything available in your arsenal, and there being a lot of them.

Or forgetting the massive superiority of American CAP. Forget ALL of that!

How the hell do you think you're gonna find the fleet anyways?

I'll give you a small hint. Soviet naval strategy was only ever focused on denial (for as long as they could anyways) against American, and the wider NATO fleet. They never, ever seriously enviosoned their navy could attempt to take even one CBG in a head to head battle. Their attempts to procude even one equivalent of a carrier battle group was too high for the Soviet economy and still keeping to their other commitments, even at it's height.

By the end of the CW, Soviet command didn't think their navy would last very long. They figured even the army would lose eventually, it's gains reversed. Why do you think they invested so heavily in a missile force? Why do you think even with the collapse of the USSR, the nuclear missiles still got the top priority? It's because the Soviets would lose and they knew it. Even now, Putin and company still knows it. Hence why you see threats of nuclear retaliation if their neighbors so much as sneeze. It's their only card they truly have left, and they fucking know it.

I'd put more money on the Chinese conventional warfare capabilities at this point than Russian. I'm not saying Russians are pathetic African-tier military now. But in a sense, they never were what our popular imagination led us to think.

As you go through the morning, you eventually realize that Lise is doing her 'I don't want to be thrown away again' clingy routine where she tries to stay in constant physical contact with you at times. Well, fine. You choose to just let it slide, though it does make it more difficult to get up and get presents, and it is a little bit awkward considering her parents happen to be in the same room as you at the time. Still, you get it. This can be another Christmas present. After the presents are opened, and you have a belly full of homemade pastries and eggnog and scotch, you drift off to sleep on the couch, with your arm wrapped around the tiny girl. The scene is almost perfect, when you turn on the television and switch it to the golf channel, which is showing a charity tournament that is taking place in New Zealand. Now, you're really ready to nap. Around noon, Beatrix and Jurgen arrive with the baby. Everyone is supposed to meet at about one, but they had to bring over some of the things Mrs. Hohenstein baked that she couldn't carry on foot, and some extra chairs so everyone has a place to sit down. Eventually, The three of them are dozing along side you on the couch, with Beatrix's hand squeezing Lise's.

Mr. Hohenstein is sitting at the table tapping away at his laptop, doing some last minute revisions to a story that he'd like to have out the door by new year's. Walther and Slywia, then Inghild, the baby and Marco, each arrive, with Walther and Marco heading out to get the barbecue started. There are too many dishes being brought into the house right now, and many of them need to be kept warm until dinner, so that instead of cooking the roast in the oven, it's being made in on the barbecue. The grill has been lifted up and removed entirely, and the roast is stitting in a deep pan, surrounded by the coals and chunks of applewood that are succeeding in giving it a smokey, hardy flavor.

REMOVE COMMUNIST!
>>
>>140872049

You stir awake as Pham and Farka enter the house, followed by Iris and Theo. Theo has his arm around Iris as he helps her through the door. She looks like she tore something. You think for a moment, and realize that she probably did, and it wasn't a muscle. Theo helps Iris into a folding chair, then takes a glance around the room. He looks aghast and confused when he sees Lise and Beatrix napping on top of each other, holding hands. There are some gears turning in his head, but it's obvious they're missing some teeth. You decide to head off any potential problems before they start.

"Merry Christmas, Theo."

"Hello."

You use your free hand to motion to the two girls.

"I don't want to talk about this kind of stuff on Christmas, so I'll keep it quick. They're actually best friends. It's OK. When Beatrix recruited Lise into the Werewolves, it was more like she rescued her from a lot of people who were a lot worse."

"How do you know this?"

"I read about it on the internet."

Theo looks flustered. He's only been here a day, and he still doesn't know what most things are, The internet, cell phones, credit cards, or why every store has a sticker with a lowercase 'F' on the door.

"The Internet?"

"It's a place on the computer with an endless supply of cat videos, gossip, and fetish porn."

"How would that teach you anything about the world I came from?"

"Well, it has everything else on it, too. Do you want me to show you the internet?"

You switch the input on the television from cable to the media center PC you keep in the living room, then bring up an internet browser. Wireless keyboard in your lap, you show Theo all the important parts of the internet. At least, all the important parts of the internet you can show him with small children and your Fiance's parents in the room. For someone whose closest encounter with the internet is redacted newspaper microfilms, it's like a whole new world.

Theo pulls up a folding chair next you your end of the couch, and you start showing him highlights of the internet. eventually, you decide to show him the video where Lise and Beatrix pretend to be themselves, and shoot an old Type 38 Arisaka at BETA posters in a rock quarry.

"What the heck? What language are they speaking?"

"Japanese."

"What? Why would they make a video in Japanese?"

Theo is comfortably in murmuring range, and while Lise is slumped on your shoulder, she hasn't stirred this entire time. You quietly explain how everything about his world was known in this one through a fictional series, and how his sister wanted to see him again so badly, she'd built this entire brand of cosplay, carefully studying her audience, figuring out how to maximize her impact, and eventually getting able to meet the creators. You tell Theo how his own death had never been resolved, and how, without knowing how he died, it would be impossible to allow him to cross over to this world, and that her only objective in doing all of this was to see her brother again. You tell him about how her original plan was to simply commit suicide in the hopes she was able to meet him again, how Beatrix made sure she couldn't, and how everyone encouraged this and cooperated with her because it was the only constructive outlet for her crippling loneliness. You touch on the fact that she did all of this with only the goal of seeing her beloved brother again, and then casually mention that the first thing he did after almost a year and a half of hard work on her part was to immediately snub her in favor of another woman. That even if there wasn't any romantic attraction, that this sort of thing hurts, because she misses her brother so much. Theo is pretty dense, but by the end of it, you're pretty sure he's got the picture. His forehead is resting in his hands, his elbows on his knees.

"I'm a terrible brother, aren't I?"

"The important thing is you admit you have a problem."

You gently push Lise into Beatrix, so they're napping propped up against one another, and you take Theo outside. You reach into a cooler and hand him a beer, before getting one for yourself. Instead of ice, the cooler is full of snow from the lawn outside. The mood is awkward, to say the least. You speak first.

"Thanks."

Theo looks confused.

"To be honest, if you had come into this world all gung-ho on Lise, my relationship would have fallen apart by now. So, it's fine with me if that's not what you're after. In fact, it's better for me. A lot better for me. But... don't forget about her. She did do all that work, just for you. Remember, after all is said and done, you're her brother. That's all you need to be."

Theo nods, sipping on his beer. It must taste funny, because after his first sip he scrutinizes the label, giving it a sour look.

"What is this?"

"It's an India Pale Ale."

"It's a little bit strong..."

"It's Pham's favorite. Take small sips and try to savor the aroma."

Actually, that's true. Pham has always enjoyed things with floral notes, and managed to appreciate the sweet side of things that other people just find too bitter to give a chance. Theo looks at the beer, and takes another sip, trying to force himself to appreciate it. You return to the task at hand, getting him to adapt to this new world.

"Also, I know you were never on the best of terms with Beatrix, but it's important that you try to give her a second chance. She's basically a totally different person here than who you thought she was in the bad old days. Also, she's married to Iris' brother, and her two best friends are Iris and Lise, so you are basically going to have to get along with her if you want to be close to any of the people you love. Your parent's are treating her baby as their own grandchild, and helping it raise it as one of their own. So, if you remember nothing else from today, just remember, Beatrix Bernhard is your friend now."

"You don't seem to trust me."

"Sorry, I don't. When Lise saw Walther and Sylvia, she had a panic attack and crawled out a window, trying to run away from them in only her pyjamas and stocking feet. When she saw Pham, she was crying because she felt so bad. When you saw Beatrix, I wasn't so sure that you weren't going to stab her again. Neither was she, that's why she left so abruptly."

Theo looks down at his beer. You can't tell if he feels bad or not. After all, everything you know about this man has him painted as a monster. A monster whose downfall should no doubt be looked upon with understanding and sympathy, but a monster all the same. Even now, you have Schmidt's Walther Model 9 in a special holster in your front pocket, because getting stabbed sucks.

"I don't remember how I died."

Theo addresses you, seemingly out of nowhere.

"I managed to stay alive for a while, fighting for what I thought was right, but when I died, I was blind drunk. I don't even remember dying. I wouldn't have even known if Pham hadn't told me."

"You mean the fact that she was even here didn't tell you?"

"No, I saw her in my dreams all the time. I saw them all in my dreams."

He stares into his drink. You finish your own beer, and grab another one. Before you take a sip, you hold it out towards him.

"A toast... to friendship."

"...To friendship."

For the first time since you've seen him, Theo smiles. The smell of roasting meat wafts through the air, when Lise pokes her head through the door.

"Come on in, it's time to exchange presents. Also, get me a beer."

You head back inside. Between the Christmas tree and the fourteen people (including the two babies) in the room, things are rather cozy. You're back on the couch, with Lise on your lap, drinking her beer. You eventually begin the process of handing out presents to everyone and watching them open them one by one. It's pretty fun to see what everyone thought the other people they love would want in their lives, Eventually, you get to the part where Theo is given a gift from his family. It's a fairly basic smartphone, and they already set it up for him in the store.

"This way everyone can get a hold of you."

"What... I mean... What is this thing?"

You chime in, "It's basically every electronic device you could ever possibly imagine. Except radar."

Mrs. Hohenstein calls him on her own phone, and her husband shows her son how to answer the call. Lise takes a picture of the scene, and sends it to him.

"It says I have a message. What's a message?"

His father shows him how to open the messaging application and enlarge the picture. Theo realizes that the picture was taken only a moment ago, and looks confused.

"We don't actually use film anymore, so there's nothing to develop."

"I... This could be used to spy on people."

"It is used to spy on people. but it's not a problem because there is so much information being put out there that parsing it is going to be an impossible task. And the people who would be spying on you are way too busy staring at the fourteen year old titties that get sent over these messages to ever care about anything you upload."

You're greeted with a room full of blank stares. Theo answers, "That's not reassuring at all."

"It's not meant to be. It's just the truth. Take from it what you will. But expect to get lots of pictures of food, flowers, and baby animals."

Theo stares at the phone in his hands, not sure of what to think.

"Also, you can look at the internet on that thing."

He looks up, "I can?"

With all the presents opened, It's time for Christmas dinner. Everyone helps to load the kitchen table with all of the food they have brought, but before you start loading your plate, Iris has you form a circle holding hands in the living room for a short prayer. You spare a moment for friends lost, give thanks for friends found, and also the delicious food you can smell on the table. Then, Walther carves the Christmas roast, and everybody forms a line, loading their plates. You try to get a little bit of everything. It's hard not to overfill your plate, and you settle with a couple bites of everything. By the time you make it around the table, however, your plate is completely overloaded. You sit back down on the cough, and tuck into the meal. By this point, everybody is laughing and joking again, even Theo, who took it upon himself to cycle through the line twice, bringing Iris her plate. She managed to stand for Grace, but other hther than that, she has not gotten out of her chair the entire time she's been here. Lise turns to you and smirks, whispering "I bet she's having trouble walking. The first time is always hard."

You try not to spit out the mouthful of pork you were chewing, and instead swallow hard. You look over at her, but she's returned to her own plate, pretending that nothing happened. You finish your meal, and eventually, everyone leaves. You were eating on paper plates, so clean up is relatively easy. You get ready to turn in. You and Lise have a quick shower, with no soap, just to rinse the day off. As the stress and uncertainty of the day runs down the drain with the steaming water, Lise wraps you in a loving embrace.

"I heard all the things you told him on the couch."

She puts a light kiss on your chest, and looks up at you.

"I could never have told him all that myself. I'm glad you did it for me."

She smiles happily. It's the sort of unburdened, joyous smile you've become addicted to.

"I think you deserve a reward tonight."

Will we ever get TSF designs for lesser planes that different countries would field? I mean if Japan gets super speshul TSFs that they have no irl equivalent of, surely it wouldn't hurt to do other designs around? I know the Cheetah for example, would look like a heavily modified Mirage TSF, but that is okay. Hell, the J-10 looks like an F-16 (which is correct, since the Joos sold their Lavi data to the PRC).

I had a thought yesterday lads. What if the Anime was a shit adaptation on purpose and all those LN scenes that were cut out in the first VN were on purpose as well? I mean, there is no such thing as bad publicity, right? So they rile up the old fans and newcomers get a biased impression, so they get loud and keep discussing even long after the anime ends. Like we and the japs have. This creates false expectations, like the ones the japs had for Alternative back in '06, and so when Martyrs hits, they hit us with something that blows us all out.

Can you blame them? Especially in TDA where most of the elite mechanics ,resources, and producing company are hoarded by the IRG so they can run their machines, making the less amiable s to stick with the less experience ones, the inverse cast admit they are really elites pilots but the problem with them are their lack of appearances on things that don't have high priotity

>>

I think its more of that the IRG focus more on their own interest and survival that most of the time because of that the whole surviving army on TDA really have bad impressions on them and mostly calling them stucks up, true that they are basically the ''imperial guards'' for the shoguns and all of that but they must be really doing something really wrong when the whole allied army doesn't give a shit about most of them that isn't the shogun and only acknowledge one pilot as something they actually feel glad to be there

heck mostly even the IRG's commander's participation on the hive raid was just to lift up his position in the doubting nips and also to gather some g bombs
>>
>>140888949

With the R&D expenses as a sunk cost and not considered, maybe. It might have managed to be vaguely functional before the 1998 invasion, but after that Japan didn't have the industrial base to support it.

In TDA, using the Type-00 is criminal

>>140888887

Actually the IRG commander Ikaruga actually move most of the industrial bases for the type 00's in hawaii so that they can still run their machines the moment he manage to get one of yuuko's reports that for somehow no one bothered tk take attention
>>
>>140889104
>I think its more of that the IRG focus more on their own interest and survival

But with limited resources, that comes at a cost to someone else, and the cronyism built into government of ML-Japan means they have a vastly greater ability to screw other people for their own benefit than anyone else.
>>
>>140889325
actually thats basically what they do

i mean the only reason why japan manage to convince the americans in TDA to let them settle in seatlle and hawaii is because of the resources they hoarded and the amount of Ttype 00's they have and thei ability to maintain one
>>
>>140889313

I'm aware of that, but that doesn't mean that supporting the Type-00 is anywhere near the best way that equipment could be used.

In The Day After, production and maintenance of the Type-94 has effectively become the responsibility of the Boeing corporation, because the IRG has sucked up all the manufacturing for their compensation toys.
>>
>>140889501

But the Type-94 does most of the heavy lifting of the Japanese forces. It's the one that's actually deployed into combat routinely and provides the bulk of the fighting power.

It's like the Imperial Guard (the good one) and the Adeptus Astatres. The Guard fights the war for weeks, months, or years, and then the Space Marines swoop in to destroy the enemy stronghold and take all the credit for the whole campaign.
>>
>>140889506
But its not like they can just abandon all the type 00's now arent they?

though its kinda shiity of the IRG for hoarding all the heaviest resources but abandoning a 3rd generation TSF isn't really a good choice either
>>
>>140855568
DDR had no tank industry. All their tanks came from USSR or CSSR. T62 was rejected by the Warsaw Pact on the basis that it didn't offer enough improvement over an upgraded T55 and the T64 was something the USSR was never interested in sharing.
>>
>>140889718

Sunk cost fallacy. If it's not practical to use, then you mothball it until such a time as that changes. It's as simple as that.

Technically speaking, the Type-94 kinda-sorta qualifies as a third-generation unit, and if it incorporates at least some of the XFJ upgrades, then it's probably at least on par with the EF-2000 or the Rafale. In any case, the U.S.-Japan alliance has the F-22A for high-end anti-human work, and single unit ability is far less important when fighting the BETA.

thats basically it

they lack so much action that the only time they actually participate is during important events

And every time they appear in action, they have to do it such bullshit extravagant manner

in Operation Norad they only send a handful of their flights late in action to finish the most of the enemy forces despite the JMDF and the americans doing almost all their works just for them to be the one who ''finish'' the job, in order to vent out the frustration of the nips citizen and empire army about how they are doing nothing that they have to send a direct retainer to carry out things in the most absurd manner

Same thing that happen too in the JFK hive which most of the JMDF ,french-candian.american forces taking the lead while then they arrive late to conventionally save them with their railguns

As long as the VN keeps true to the spirit of the LN and the characters are themselves then it doesn't matter if a few scenes are missing or skipped over. And noones going to purposely make a shit adaptation, Watanabe genuinely believed in the changes he made, that and condensing the story to 12 episodes is hard enough as it is.

If Watanabe had kept the characters consistent it could've at least been a good anime (but still a horrible adaption). Instead, we get Lise flipflopping from cartoonishly, mustache twirling (well, hair twirling) traitor one episode, then tragic heroine the next. Lise's death was meant to be sad, instead, you end up making it look like we should be happy to see her dead. Beatrix's muh Jurgen comes off as fake when her very first actions are executing people with glee or smirking when she finds out a quarter of her Werewolves have been killed. You can't paint characters as the blackest of blacks one minute, then try to play the sympathy card for them a couple of minutes later.

The sad part is, they only need to change a couple seconds, just Lise holding her head crying instead of hair twirling, and Beato being upset when she finds out her pilots died, and sounding sympathetic when she says Lise has nothing left. Also, make the werewolves seem like less of a mean girl clique.

Bea can still be a big meanie when it comes to people who aren't werewolves because her affection is largely limited to her own battalion, but it's important to show that affection is there.
>>
>>140896372
This. Its possible to properly adapt the characters without having to include every little bit of backstory from seven light novels, Requiem, and BiS.
>>
>>140896372

>>
>>140896596
They could've easily done a dialogless post credits BIS flashback that would've contextualized the Muh Jurgen bit instead of leaving a big, gaping hole. Iris and Beatrix both talk about realizing Jurgen's ideals, but it's meaningless considering that we don't have any idea what those ideals are, or how significant Jurgen was to one of the two.

With all the other changes, the Jurgen bit only serves to hurt the overall story and should've either been elaborated upon adequately, or excised completely.

The point of an adaption isn't to do a word for word transliteration of the source material to a different medium, it's to show the same story in a new medium, and to really do that, you need to capture the same aesthetic and ambience the original had, not necessarily dot all the same i's and cross all the same t's

If you pardon the pun, Lise's death was pretty well executed in the anime even though it was different from the light novel.
>>
>>140897033

I agree, on both counts. People get way too hung up in general on little details of an adaptation.
>>
>>140896372
In the LN, Beatrix gives Lise control over a few of the Werewolves so she could chase down Theo. Lise was the one leading up ops, not that black haired Farka. Even after being rejected, Lise was certain that Theo was just being mislead by Iris and the rebels and would see the "light" if only she could bring him back to Beatrix. Someone put up a translation of Lise's scene wherein she volunteered to go after Theo, and the words she used when describing Theo to Beatrix was that he was foolish and being lied to, which is completely absent from the anime. That goes away pretty quickly once Theo rejects her again, tries to kill her (he considered her pure evil by this point over the whole Pham murder), and kills more Werewolves, driving her to complete insanity.

Part of the reason I had Pham and Farka become roommates is because it gives me an excuse to put a lot more Pham into what is essentially a story about Lise
>>
>>140897033
A good adaptation should capture the themes and mood of the original. If an adaptation is a 1:1 adaptation of the plot, but arrives to a totally different message/interpretation, then it is a shit adaptation. It's why "the Shining" is an excellent movie, but a shit adaptation.
>>
>>140897228
Lise really only had Farka with her because that's all Beatrix could spare (and they were wingmen already). Two Werewolves are still a force to be reckoned with however.
>>
>>140896372
>>140896994

I think, though, if you make Beatrix appear to be a more likeable person, you have to do a better job presenting why she is still worth opposing, and why the character are fighting her.

That said, I do like that sort of presentation; my favorite sort of scenario is one where the antagonist, or at least one of the major ones, is actually respectable. It makes the conflict one of ideas rather than people; you're fighting because your opponent is trying to do or create something you are will to die to prevent rather than because they're a douchebag.

TLDR: Antagonist should be Rommel, not Himmler.
>>
>>140896372
>the werewolves seem like less of a mean girl clique.

A group of broken people clinging to one another and sacrificing their morality and souls for one another (and also setting up a parallel for the 666th) is so much more compelling than the one-dimensional evil bitches we got in the anime. I don't get this change, it's not enhancing the story and even makes it weaker in some regards. It certainly introduces holes into the plot (like how Beatrix could so easily grab power if she's such a terrible leader).

>>140897666
The conflict blends both politics with the intensely personal. Sure, Beatrix is doing what she feels she needs to do to save Europe, but she also has some very personal grievances with Iris, Axmann, and Schmidt. Being the efficient German she is, she'll multitask and get her revenge while also realizing her political goals (which are just an extension of her love for Jurgen, really). It's what makes the whole conflict so interesting.

It's also what makes her fight with Theo so lackluster. Theo is not political, and he's only fighting Beatrix because she's a "douchebag." Unlike Iris, where's there's a ton of layers and history to their antagonism and Iris offers a counterpoint to Beatrix's philosophy, Theo's conflict with her is flat.

Nice 666 get, by the way. There seems to be a lot of dubs going on in this thread.
>>
>>140897666
Satan has it right. If the enemy is completely unlikeable, the story feels too shallow. Though I don't agree with the Himmler comparison, when you know all the details he comes as rather pathetic and not at all threatening.
>>
>>140898149
Some stories don't need ambiguous or likable villains. Psychopaths work very well in many stories as villains. However, in a story as political as ML, you need to have villains that you can agree with or even like to a certain degree or the whole conflict loses a lot of its teeth and believably.
>>
>>140898149

Thanks. I agree on the Himmler thing; I couldn't think of a good parallel for an effective general but who was also a morally bankrupt killer off the top of my head. There's probably a Mongol who qualifies, but... yeah.

>>140898471
>you can agree with or even like to a certain degree

I'd say the two aren't connected, and you have to be careful about both being true. If that's the case, then the question of why the conflict is happening at all comes up, and it can be hard to do nuance properly in a chinese cartoon (or any visual medium, really).

You are right, but its a matter of personal taste for me. Complete Psychopaths kind of feel like a cop out to me, might as well have a animal as a villain, but its just that, personal taste.
>>
>>140898672
Yeah, true, but I still think the villain needs to have some truth to what they're saying in a show about conflicts of ideals, just like the heroes shouldn't be totally right. If you can't see where the villain is coming from, or see how his/her message would resonate with others, then it's difficult to see why anyone would follow them.

Never really read past the first book. The Sliver of Infinity always seemed an unambiguously bad dude to me. Maybe he's like Beato and gets a bad showing in the main story that get's contradicted by later material and outside perspectives.

IT's been a little over a month and a half since Theo arrived. He immediately started shacking up with Irisdina, and by New Years, they had even dropped the absurd pretense that he was only there to 'crash on the couch.' Lise is slowly adapting to losing her brother yet again after getting so frustratingly close to having him again. It's working out pretty well for you, though, because there's no lingering second thoughts keeping her from committing herself entirely from her engagement to you. She just needs to be comforted tenderly in order to fall asleep, and again when she wakes up in the morning, especially after having a bad dream. It's interfering with your sleep schedule, but never in your life have you been so energized.

It's Valentine's Day, and you decided to treat her to something special. You take her to a nice dinner and a touring musical that happens to be in town. At dinner, she eats light, as she normally does, and drinks hard, like she normally does. She's undressing you with her eyes from over the top of her wine glass as the chocolate mousse is placed in front of you, then puts on a surprisingly teasing show as she steals forkfuls of mousse from the plate in front of you. You don't think you had so much as a bite, but it was all worth it in the end.

You take her to the touring musical next. It seems like a bit of a letdown, because it really doesn't fit the mood. It's about artists with tuberculosis not paying their rent or something. Thankfully, everybody eventually dies, sparing you their self imposed personal crises. Lise had a bottle and a half of pretty high quality wine sloshing around in her stomach at this point, and spent most of the play napping. As you leave, you decide to tease her about it.

"I can't believe you fell asleep during the show!"

She traces her finger on your jawline, grins and says, "I need to get my sleep where I can, because we won't be getting any tonight."

Lise who was a obvious spy betrays them...she better suffer a miserable end...
Theodor could of saved all of his team but killing lise...but he ran...
retarded move since theirs a high chance they would be tortured and killed anyway...but he still fucking ran...
then has the audacity to become emo...

ep8
Theodor continues to be absurd by snapping of of his emo state telling Katia not to act spoiled...
and telling her she will protect her...despite the fact that the scum bag almost got her killed while being depressed...
This is so retarded...so people wont help because its morally right but they will help just because the daughter of some famous man is there!?....

ep9
you really expect anyone to believe that Pham who was tortured brutally for 1-? days would easily forgive
Lise who betrayed them and CLEARLY enjoyed it???
why the fuck is Theodor the only person looking for Irisdina who is extremely important to their future!?
the writers have the audacity to make you pity lise...its not possible...shes pure fucking evil like the beatrice chick
no backstory is going to make any sane person pity her...
and of course not only does he fail again to protect someone right in front of him despite having the power too...he still doesn't kill his sister who is responsible for everything...
his obsession with his sister does not even make sense...for the past ? years he though she was dead...literally the only bond they have is a few memories...oh btw in case you were not paying attention they aren't even blood related...not like that should matter...
Lises logic is completely retarded...if her entire purpose for fighting and existing is her brother common fucking sense is join his side...

ep11

give her dirty looks like she did something wrong...its like they completely forgot what lise did...

Nothing truly dramatic or a forced incident. Just the last emotional hurdle before the end: coming to terms with the reality that they're ~ACTUALLY~ about to tie the knot. For life.

I see it as a big deal for Lise. It's the final coming to terms that onii-chan is in the past (at least, the obsession with him, because he's clearly still around) and that the future is with someone else who loves her.

Even in real life, this sort of anxiety kicks in for people when the wedding is mere days (or even hours) away. All lingering doubts and fears make themselves manifest., and have to be faced and settled.

More Irisdina doujins. Yay, I guess. The art doesn't really impress though.

Iris told her about how her friends over in the 666th are going to kill her. She also might've told Beatrix that she's full of crap and that Jurgen would hate her if he was alive.

YOUR Imouto could be next! Fight the Red Menace!
>>
>>140914452

You return home from the movie, and after a quick shower, you head into the bedroom.

"That's strange."

You're pretty sure you see someone in the bed. Your ears prick up, and you start moving carefully. Nobody has ever appeared on the interdimensional mattress unless another person was already asleep on it, though if there are any laws regarding it's function, you don't know what they are. You turn to Lise, worried. She has a blank expression on her face, and you're not sure what she's thinking. You whisper to her.

"Who do you think it is?"

"Why don't you take a look?"

As you approach the person asleep on the bed, the lights flick on. You jump back, and see Farka, wearing nothing but a red satin ribbon that is wrapped around her, binding her hands and feet. Farka jumps too. She'd fallen asleep in her position on the bed, and awakens with a start when the lights are suddenly turned on. You turn to Lise, who by now is wearing nothing but a shit-eating grin.

"What's going on?"

"I cooked up a little valentine's day present for you~"

Lise moves onto the bed, positioning herself behind Farka, as if offering the other girl to you as a gift. Farka blushes, and stares at you expectantly through her eyelashes. You take a deep breath, and detect just a hint of expensive perfume. You look down. At some point, your bathrobe slipped off and your member is standing at attention. Your heart and your mind are slowly coming to the same conclusion it already arrived at. Lise is running her hands up and down Farka's body, entertaining herself while you come to terms with the situation.

"Is... Is this really OK?"

"Of course. She's my wingman. She'll do anything I ask her to."

Lise chuckles to herself.

"Though in this case, she volunteered for the mission~"

You're at breakfast at that diner in town with Lise, Farka and Pham. Pham smiles and leans over the table.

"So, how'd it go?"

You blush to the clavicle.

"H-How did what do?"

"Now, now, you don't have to try and hide anything from me. I was the one who had to tie the knots."

Your jaw drops. Pham reaches over towards the girl sitting next to her, and tousles her hair. Farka has been glowing all morning. You had wondered how Lise would be willing to share you, since even though she didn't strike you as jealous, she was clingy and bordered on codependent. Her pillow talk with Farka the night before had cleared that up. While the introduction of a man had been a new development as of that night, apparently Lise and Farka had quite the history together.

Especially vivid in your memory was the time they were sandwiching you, running their hands over every inch of your body, reliving the many times when, unable to get a moment of privacy anywhere else, they had resorted to having secret liasons in the cockpit of Lise's MiG-23, and how they had almost been caught once when the Borkwald Squadron scrambled, and Farka had to jump out of Lise's unit still pulling her fortified suit on, while the rest of the squadron rushed in the opposite direction towards their own TSFs. You stare out the window smiling happily, when Pham pokes your shoulder.

"Something on your mind?"

"Yes," you grin.

"Good. I was a little worried, you know. Sometimes, not everyone reacts well to that kind of a surprise."

You pause. You hadn't thought about that, but Lise had taken a heck of a risk adding Farka into the mix, on Valentie's day, no less, without ever bringing the subject up with you before hand. Farka, for her part, has been sitting quietly watching her wing leader, who is listening carefully to your conversation with Pham, trying to decide if she has anything to add. Eventually, your meals arrive, and you tuck in, each person lost in their memories of the previous night.

I'll start the wedding arc after the new thread is created, but don't rush it.

I've written myself into a bit of a corner from a chronological perspective, so there's at least one arc I want to include that occurs after the wedding

and an epilogue

plus i might have to go back and do the first christmas, plus new years. so more stories to add even after i'm 'done'
