I know it's on some recommendation charts and was voted best anime by Japan for the year it aired, but I've never seen any discussion for this on /a/. Definitely one of my favorites though, with a pretty well done twist too.

God damn it, Japan.

Sola isn't amazing. It's not bad but at the end of the day is another low budget 13 episode story like we've seen many times before. It brings on nothing new aside from a great op/ed and that umbrella with the sky painted on the inside. Yes the twist was ok but it wasn't anything very impressive anyway, that's why nobody talks about it.

I watched a few episodes 2 years ago and couldn't bear the cringey characters.

I don't understand how can anyone qualify this as a "great show".
