I watched it. The first 50 episodes were the whole soul society thing, that was cool enough. Then the Bounto started. I thought I could deal with it for a bit, even if I was anxious to get back to the soul society arc stuff.

Seventy episodes later it was still on that vampire shit.

Serious answer.
Bleach isn't a good series to start reading halfway through the plot.
Online readers aren't popular in Japan, they start reading manga from the point that they are being published, and Bleach isn't welcoming with those readers.
Compare with One Piece, if you start reading it at the start of any saga, you won't be missing that much, you just have to know that Luffy is searching for a treasure.
Bleach on the other side have to rely on old long term readers, that will only decrease through time, and after more than 10 years this became visible.

Characters that are fleshed out only get this treatment through last-minute flashbacks, right before they're about to die and never be seen again. The former main cast only ever shows up to provide comic relief. Combat sequences always follow the same repetitive beats. Individual chapters are seldom eventful. If anything does happen, it's predictable, and when it's not predictable, it's ridiculous. But the other major reason that people have dropped the series in droves is because the story actually came to a point where it should have ended...and didn't.
