I don't think it's so much about using weapons. After all Mikoto uses weapons already. The reason Salome could offer up the railgun and iron sword is because they are weapons after all.

I think it's more about killing and not killing. Mikoto has a power that would let her kill people with ease but she makes sure she doesn't, like when she took out the Russian nuke base. As another anon pointed out, when Mikoto thinks she's killed someone she starts to have a breakdown.

In this situation, by bringing up the priest, Touma basically told her the enemy was invincible and that all they could do is run. So unsurprisingly she hit the "invincible" enemy with the strongest thing around.

She probably thinks she killed Kihara now. Add to that Crowley's bullshit infecting her mind like she feared would happen if she plugged into the attachment and her mental state is in shambles.

See NT14, it was less likely to work than Kamisato's idea of just sticking her in a hospital for life or the like, but he wanted to reach an end where everyone was smiling. He said that Othinus was justice when he was confused and still trying to make sense of things. Once he got his shit together, his final speech to Othinus explains his thoughts clearly. "Doing what you want" is very central to Touma's character. As long as he's doing what he really wants and staying consistent with his true will, then he's being Touma. He even said “This kind of power…isn’t what I wanted” to punctuate it. For example, remember the time when he was betrayed by Birdway and was acting weird due to mistrust. Having an unchanging mindset is him just being consistent to his ideals. For example, his ideal is "for everyone to go home happy without having lost anything." His mindset in order to follow that ideal dream would be "I won't cut people off, not even my enemies." If learning martial arts makes it easier for him to cut people off, then it's not for him because it would compromise his ideal. Even if there was only 1% chance for him to change and start cutting people off, then he'll choose not to take the risk. Because he doesn't want to.

If you're expecting his mindset to be "I won't cut people off" + "I swear that learning more methods to cut people off won't change me", that's not just what his character is designed to be. You can call it a character flaw like how Birdway pointed out Touma is crazy for getting angry because Birdway won't sacrifice Touma first.

It's like in shows where everything can be solved if only these 2 characters would sit down and talk. Except the characters are designed to be mistrustful or afraid to connect to other people. Pointing out "why won't these 2 people just talk" and expecting them to be mature/well-adjusted when the driving point of the story is for them to have personality defects seems silly. It's been so many volumes that's been about "Touma doing what he wants" so it's weird that people are still being surprised by this.

Touma doing what he wants really is interpreted differently depending on the situation he's in. For most situations like fighting against Accelerator, he's seen as a heroic figure and a force of nature that saves people. When he wanted Birdway to sacrifice him first or choosing to die instead of using a weapon that will compromise his ideals, he's seen as a crazy person.

Accelerator wiped out the Dark Side and saved LO, he doesn't have anything in particular he wants to do anymore, he's on the backburner until Aleister pulls him into his plan. Hamazura similarly secured a place for himself and Takitsubo, even stopping Mugino's murderous rampage. All he really wants to do now is chill. He'll only get brought into the story when Takitsubo gets targeted.

They're both largely over, their character arcs mostly spun. Pulling in someone else like Kamisato and developing him alongside Touma through the events of NT would be a nice parallel to those in the same manner that they used to be part of the main story.

I didn't Accelerator and Hamazura need 30 more volumes of focus. Nor did I say Kamisato couldn't or shouldn't be focused on, maybe even more so than current Accelerator and Hamazura. I'm simply saying their impact on the story is far from over nor is their relevance. The peace they've found isn't permenent and they know it. Well, at least Accelerator does.

They will be back but right now Touma/Mikoto and Magic Gods are clearly the major elements that the story is dealing with. Once it finishes or wraps up some of that and focuses back on the city and power development Accelerator an Hamazura have a lot to do with the focus of that story.
