I don't know why /a/ hates it so much, I think it's great.
I'm neutral to S&M but the manga explores it really well and gives a lot of insights, and the emotional writing is top-notch.

Pacing... is slow, but I don't feel it's going nowhere. Every arc is a step further and I don't feel there's anything I'd call backtracking.
