It failed though so Giorno gained the ability to punish the Diavolo personality indefinitely for its destruction of a completely innocent guy's life and because it was the result of and spiritual embodiment of Doppio's implied childhood abuse. Effectively GER set Doppio's problems "back to zero" so that his soul could rest peacefully.

He's already explained the concept of parallel universes though, and we're already aware that the Ireneverse exists. All it takes now is for Irene to actually show up in Jojolion.
