Well, look at Rakugo & Bacano, they're flopped even its had good story.
I think the reason why Joker Game sell relatively good is because well known studio like IG doing this. Otherwise it will flop'd like any other serious anime.

Have you even watched Rakugo? The directing alone easily surpassed 99% of all anime as well as most mainstream movies. Joker Game doesn't even come close, though, but is at least still entertaining.

It's a little pretentious, but it's at least a bit different from the other copy & paste moe/harem/fantasy/sci-fi anime that pop up every season.

Sadly, Nips don't know how to write realism for shit. I'm in the minority who've had enough of the same anime with the same old character designs and same old story templates that inevitably plague every season. The Nips need something that'll take them away from their perfect happy-go-lucky stories and shake them up a bit, make the otaku think a little about the way they're living their lives. This is not that show. Either way, when that show comes up, it'll sell like shit just like anything else that's already not popular or different.

Ah, well, I'm asking for way too much, Back to reading the classics.

The problem with normalfag shows, even the great ones like Rakugo, is that pretentious fucks like you show up and praise it like it's the best thing in a thousand years. Then the contrarians come and shit on everyone who likes it because they're tired of obnoxious people like you. The show's good, but not as good as you think, so stop trying to flaunt your self perceived god-tier taste in anime.

Not that guy, but I'm finishing up Rakugo and watching Joker Game as well.

I actually agree with this. People really exaggerate how good shows that don't have cute moe girls or mechs when they shouldn't. I suppose for some who are so starved for something like Joker Game because they are so rare that when it actually comes around people get a bit carried away.

I felt part of the imperial portrait thing was a bit strange. The spies didn't feel the portrait was sacred like the military does, but the show's staff didn't even show the emperor. I thought the picture thing was supposedly an old way of thinking.

It's gotten to the point where I only go to threads for this type of show infrequently, because I actually prefer a harem show's hundreds of "I want to lick her feet" posts to the hundreds of "Wow, why is anime so bad except for this show" posts that historicals or character dramas tend to get.
