Sup. First time on this board, just started trying to get into a few animes here and there, and this question popped up.
Tried watching both Puella Magi Madoka Magica and Kanon, and just...I watched Madoka quite a while ago but the first episode felt pointless and the second episode just barely got the plot moving. I'm two episodes into Kanon and I still don't understand what the underlying plot is, if it even has one.
Did I just strike unlucky on these two, or is a very slow start common among anime? I can work through it if I figure it's going to be worthwhile, it's just that it takes a long time getting to that point.
3 episode rule.
poor you dude, started with Madoka

It's generally slower paced than western media, if that's what you're comparing it to. The payoff is often worth it though, Madoka is an example of that.
