Meanwhile America sits in a stew of humility and shame while proclaiming it's the best.
America is the equivalent of a fat bitch whining and complaining about her disabilities that she could fix herself but instead acts high and mighty and judgmental towards everyone else.

Sorry, nothing against the individuals generally, but the whole fucking disgusts me.

The conspiracy theory about Pearl Harbor is that the US let it happen so it could have a reason to enter the war against the Axis and defeat Germany. First time I hear about Churchill and Stalin fooling the US, but I guess it is better than realizing the US has a long history of being attacked right before committing to a war.
>>
Intelligence in general was a major Japanese weakness, because as an isolated and xenophobic culture, the Japanese had no tradition of ascertaining the capabilities, tactics, and strategic objectives of enemies who were not Japanese, instead, they simply assumed the enemy would obligingly show up and then he would be beaten.

This conceit later bit them in the ass hard as the USN kept outmaneuvering and deceiving them. Though the IJN were obsessed with outranging their enemies (leading to the Zero fighter and the "Long Lance" torpedo, they failed to properly grasp the value of reconnaissance and intelligence. Superior range not only requires superior speed (which the IJN consistently recognized and achieved) it also requires superior knowledge of your opponent's location and intentions (which the IJN consistently failed to recognize or achieve).

Their easy early victories against the poorly led and disorganized Chinese and Allies in Southeast Asia seemed to validate this belief, but later this fucked them over with the IJN being repeatedly outmaneuvered and led into traps by the USN (Midway being the most disastrous example) because they had no idea where the Americans were or what they were doing, while the Americans had broken their codes and were reading all their communications. Japanese battle plans were often overly complex and relied too heavily on the enemy doing exactly what the Japanese expected them to do, while the Americans knew exactly what that was because they were reading Japanese transmissions.

The only thing the Japanese secret police were any good at was rounding up and executing Chinese people en masse, such as in the Sook Ching massacre.

isn't the whole premise of the story that d-agency was created precisely because Japan was so behind

they explicitly mention how Japan got cucked in negotiations because leaks everywhere

While I liked the warranted change in MC's attitude, I feel like him figuring all of that stuff out in episode 2 was a bit too sudden. I figure it's to show he also has the ability to be a spy, but I wish it wasn't shoved in my face like that.

That said, I still look forward to more of his morale degeneration thanks to his exposure to those dirty spies.

Actually, the problem with the IJN is not that they were racially inferior, the problem was that they focuses on HATAK, HATAK, HATAK to the detriment of everything else.

The reliance on the Mahanian doctrine of that one, big decisive battle was focuses on to the detriment of submarine operations, merchant shipping and indeed intelligence.
>>
The only knowledge I have about japan during WWII was them during reconnaissance before the invasion Thailand. Apparently neither British nor Japanese spies could keep their. Or maybe they didn't care and just openly collected intel?

The British certain didn't care much about the info the got and ignored most warning signs of an invasion of Thailand that would jeopardize their position in the malays and burma.

Japanese intel did end up dodgy for the actual invasion and they ate more shit than they though they would against a third rate military.

Depends on how they are expressing that nationalism. I have no doubt Japan has much to be proud of like establishing a booming democracy during the 50s.

If your expression of nationalism is worshipping a oppressive, military regime which blundered into a war with the world's greatest industrial power and got wrecked for it then yeah I'd be hung up (more like laughing) about it. You are literally celebrating the massive, systematic anal wrecking of your country politically and militarily while to my guess opposing a very similar system to the one which once plagued your country.

Well Midway happened because the US suspected the Japanese were planning an attack, had their radio guys telegraph that one of their ships's water evaporators had broken down, and intercepted a signal from the Japanese repeating that information, verifying that Japan sought to attack Midway

From there it was child's play to lie in ambush and completely wreck the Japanese

It's a shame, because the IJN was in many regards brilliant(see their torpedo firing tactics), but the high command was rather rigid in their thinking

>It's a shame, because the IJN was in many regards brilliant(see their torpedo firing tactics), but the high command was rather rigid in their thinking

Because Nips value over seniority rather capability, even in these days.

Strategic and smart suggestion from low-rank will always be disregard as an intelligence insult for the high rank.
>>

Half of those were though highly suspicious (Mexican, Spanish and Nam). For the Mexican war they pretended the attack happened on American soil when it was on Mexican. Blowing up of the American ship in port in Cuba was in no way connected to Spain either and Gulf of Tonkin as far as I remember it was just plain false flag. WW1 and WW2 get way more debatable since they were basically just baiting to be attacked by dealing with the entente/allies.

In what way is Joker Game a Japan dindu nuffin wrong propaganda? They literally shit all over on Imperial Japan in the first episode.

The D-Agency spies are a different breed who don't have any nationalism and are expected to betray their home country if they're captured.

>>
>>140062689
But they fucking state that in the first ten minutes of the first fucking episode. It's the reason why the spy division is entirely experimental and thus tiny, understaffed, severely lacking in budget and on the verge of getting disbanded before even getting a chance to provide any results.

I hate to get all armchair and fedora but speaking of spies, it reminds me of Ian Fleming and John le Carre. They both crafted their works, James Bond, and le Carre's various of novels, especially the George Smiley ones, with the subtext(or often, in le Carre's case, a main element of the story) as a response to the UK being pushed as an accessory to the US and the Soviet Union's new paradigm.

Bond gets to be the new vanguard of the empire, thwarting communist plots while the US plays second fiddle, and often in the movies, there's a British delegation that acts to keep US/USSR diplomatic tensions from escalating.

John le Carre's is much more grounded and obviously less glamorous, but deals with the issue less passively.

To an extent, this theme of perceived ultranationalism and militarization in contemporary manga and anime feels like a delayed response to series crafted by the generation of mangaka that lived during or even participated in the war, which weren't afraid to show their distaste for the military, particularly the political faction that false-flagged skirmishes to setup invasions and arrested people for dissent, as well as the institutionalized Japanese political entities in general(see Tezuka and any of his series that involve doctors). A lot of the most enduring heroes of this time are much more metropolitan and internationally inclined(e.g. Golgo 13, Lupin III).

Obviously it's not like it's the first time you've seen this stuff in all the decades of anime, but it definitely feels denser? Or more prolific? Less benign than series where "there is some big world shaking event happening and Japan is leading the charge."
