Kirino and Kyousuke are not a couple in the end. But in the two seasons there was this accumulated sexual tension between them (the foundation and the joke of the whole opera). After the (dis)engagement with Kuroneko the authors could end the anime with a discharge (MC x ___) or let the ending open. They just made the wrong choice.

I read the novel since everybody raves about it in the oreimo threads. She treats him like absolute shit for the first four volumes, tones it down after that but still generally unreasonable, violent and abusive until about vol 8 when she starts actually showing her dere side. Overall I enjoy the series but it's really absurd that he puts up with her shit for so long and even more absurd that they end up together
