Now that the dust has somewhat settled, can we agree that all three shows had some strong and some weak points, agree that all three can be fun, and finally get along?
Stella was a high-grade semen demon. Everything else about these three series was shit.
I like the trend of almost every actively translated harem LN getting anime adaptations.
>Battle Harem consolidated thread
I know I'm late to the party but is IS invited?
Laura is best.
I guess. As is Mahouka, I guess.
I just didn't find any picture with more main girls. Besides, I haven't watched IS because I was told it doesn't ultimately progress anywhere. But I won't deny that some people may get fun from it, and won't deny them that fun.
>tfw there's no image of last season battle harem
I started watching IS recently because I get some kind of weird satisfaction from watching stuff like this, even though they only range from bad to mediocre.
>shark teeth delinquent
he was so great
I watched all three of these, and I feel kinda sad that this pic makes me think "Julis, Stella, and what's-her-name from AntiMagic". I can never remember her name for some reason.
Probably, but I still have a self-image to maintain. Besides, I don't have a strong opinion about IS since I never even watched it.
While that is certainly appealing, I actually like the Rakudai romance line. As long as they keep it faithful and don't add any extraneous girls it will be fine.
I've seen a good idea in the previous thread that they should rip off Ranma and have love triangles out the wazoo with several male characters and female ones, and the main character should be the lynchpin.
But that necessitates making relevant non-MC male characters, and shows in this genre run from this like fire, for some reason.
Can anyone offer an explanation as to why, by the way?
I have my own idea (several males would by necessity require differing levels of hierarchy, therefore one of them would be more extraverted and energetic than the others, therefore male viewership would feel alienated) butI'd like to hear your opinions.
>and finally get along?
This is false flagging. This thread was posted in the hopes that opinions clashing would lead to shitposting wars. no one on /a/ wants to get along.
Polite reminder that if you want to take part in a playtest of an Asterisk-ish tabletop RPG, feel free to leave an email or skype ID I will be able to contact you with.
Now that the dust has settled remember Mio sold more BD's and LN's than those girls in the fall season.
>BDs had a few extra details
>The one time Takeru's armor wasn't CGshit they turned it back into CG
Why damn it, why
It's a pretty decent series. The MC is pretty alpha and knows how to keep a harem and side bitches seperate. Just go into the series knowing the nurse side bitch is both God tier and best girl in the series.
35 was terrible. zero redeeming features after all was said and done. rakudai is terrible too. asterisk isn't much better but at least the art is good. too bad it dropped the ball at the end of the first cour as this tournament arc is boring as fuck
I have a rough draft and a pile of notes, so the playtest is basically to see what works and what doesn't. It didn't take off YET, but I have about two prospective players. I will probably make a thread if it pans out into something interesting.
Would it hurt battle harem LN authors to try and change their formula a little?
I mean, once you've seen one series, you've seen them all.
Literally WAITING FOR THE RAIN is the only noteworthy thing about Asterisk's soundtrack.
AntiMagic had a fuck fantastic OST in general that nearly rivaled K's OST that season. Not even mentioning CALLING CALLING.
I'm honestly not sure how anyone can say Asterisk is "best" for any reason other than "I liked this girl best" or "I liked the plot formula in Asterisk more". From the standpoint of quality in Art Direction, Script, Themes, Setting and Character Growth it was far outshone by Rakudai, especially when you can break them down almost exactly episode by episode, side by side.
Perfectly reasonable to like Asterisk more due to preference of basic presentation, but if you're making an actual assessment of quality it's either ignorant or dishonest to say it wins out.
Rakudai had its fights salvage its ass from a mediocre romance. I generally agree it was better though, S1 of Asterisk was criminally boring.
You say mediocre, I say realistic to be honest. The way that Stella and Ikki's romance progresses (awkward, stumbling with stupid drama) is pretty in line with how teenage romance goes. Even ignoring that, it's almost disgusting how unique it in that it's a romance in an Anime that ACTUALLY RESOLVES QUICKLY.
The thing about Japanese authors and publishers is that they stick to something that is familiar with them, as well as the audience they're aiming for. By being more experimental, they risk actually not being able to bring in readers due to "the readers not being able to relate". Not only are they traditionalist wimps, they also never bother writing things that they themselves would actually like (a lot of actual great authors primarily wrote for themselves on the other hand).
It's the big difference between Japan and everywhere else, they stick to their predetermined formulas and rarely stray away, even if they or their audience don't like it.
As a self-contained story, Rakudai was actually quite good. You're literally getting what's on the cover. It's an underdog story about a failed knight's rise to glory. It had a satisfying albeit very fucking cheesy conclusion. But hey, that's enough for me.
But see the whole thing was cheesy and uninspired, that is what makes extremely mediocre to me.
It was just so lackluster in so many areas.
Just my opinion, but I think you're forgetting the first two episodes.
>in line with how teenage romance goes
>omg baka you saw me in my undies im a princess i hate you
>20 minutes later
>it's.. it's not like i like you. and you won the duel so im your slave and i'll wash your back and rub my boobs against you
Yea man, totally realistic, a genre of it's own.
I literally cringed and jumped ahead on scenes like that, and shit like the mall kidnappers make her get on her knees.. with no clothes!
It was forced garbage for a few eps till they cooled off on going over the top, even for a cookie cutter harem.
How are you liking IS: Charlotte's Version, anon?
Looking back at it, that was the most unrealistic shit ever.
She literally wanted to start fucking him moments after the duel. How forced is that? The progress during the first few episodes was just awful.
Even MioxBasara had a more realistic build up. It took the entire first season for her to decide she wanted the dick.
Stella was ready to fuck Ikki by episode 2
I dunno, maybe about as forced as Ayato being the one to wield a cursed sword that nobody else can control, but he's supposed to be lowly-ranked, despite people declaring him the strongest in the school?
Admittedly, it was unrealistically fast, but that's half the premise of teenage romance series.
I'd rather that than episodes and volumes of will-he-won't-he that demonstrates how frustratingly detrimental a heavy harem aspect is to a story.
That's fine that it was unrealistic but when people say this romance is realistic, they must be crazy.
The whole situation is unrealistic as it gets.
I understand that it works in the context of a shitty harem romance but when people say Rakudai was good because of its romance, I can't help but disagree.
But see, there's a difference of growing to like someone and love someone. Stella practically loved Ikki in moments
>Nene was good
Now that it's finally over can we all agree AntiMagic is the worst battle harem of that season?
The dialogue was terrible; the story was nonsensical; the seiyuu's only had one emotion: angry; Mari wasn't even that cute.
Rakudai would have been REALLY enjoyable if it wasn't for Stella, Anti Magic was okay got pretty boring towards the end.
I couldn't muster the courage to watch 3 in one season to didn't watch the other.
Thought the middle one was the girl from Phantom World this whole time...
Man these shows are entertaining/good time sinks once around but they really don't have much memorable to place them apart.
Antimagic's MC comes from a fucked up family. Males are born with souls of demons with bodies of humans while the reverse applies for females and they're usually a host for a demonic flesh monster. The only reason they're sword-autists are mostly because it's an effective method of discipline.
Antimagic thankfully has plot outside of tournament settings.
I'm more angry that episode 9 exists.
What need was there for filler for a fanservice episode that was full QUALITY
Let it die
We're going to have the same discussion every Saturday and Monday.
>anime original ending force no season two
It's too bad with how all the cool stuff happens afterwards. Yanagimi knows how to push my buttons.
>I like tonfas
>he includes tonfa
Truly a mad man.
Krul is better.
anti-magic has the best source material of the 3 as it's the only one to have a plot besides muh tournament or muh shitty romance/harem antics. however, it has a shit adaptation
asterisk has the best adaptation, but the source is average when it comes to characters and action. the tournament is muh but at least makes some sense.
rakudai's adaptation is only a step above anti-magics, and the source as a whole is ridiculous. from the shitty romance to the muh japan won ww2 timeline to jobbing of side characters who would make better MC's. the only saving grace was how the action looked, in spite of how brokenly hax and asspully every fight was. oh yeah and shark boy deserved to be in a better series.
Adaptation-wise: Asterisk > Rakudai > Taimadou
Harem: Asterisk > Taimadou > Rakudai
MC: Taimadou > Asterisk > Rakudai
Main Girls: Julis > Ouka > Stella
Best Girls: Mari > Shizuku > Kirin
Plot: Taimadou > Rakudai > Asterisk
OP: Asterisk = Taimadou > Rakudai
ED: Asterisk > Taimadou > Rakudai
OST: Taimadou > Rakudai > Asterisk
Animation: Asterisk > Rakudai > Taimadou
Battles: Rakudai > Asterisk > Taimadou
Fanbase: Taimadou > Asterisk > Rakudai
Asterisk' harem includes the awesome side characters, so it can't be helped.
Ouka might have been better before second cour of season 1. Now Julis takes the lead with her recent showing.
I personally didn't watch it despite being hyped for it since I'm a fan of Kasuga Ayumu. I ended up browsing the threads for images that caught my eye and just reading the discussion.
I love Dirk. He seems like he has quite the stories to tell and relevance. Plus he can't be beaten by the act of punching in the face either since he manipulates rather than fights.
Always remember the SMnK harem outsold your favorite battle harem of the fall season.
It's almost 100% IS. I don't even feel like watching it because it actually feels like rewatching IS. I'll probably keep watching though and just lurk the threads when instead if I decide to drop it.
>there performance was shit
>implying a bad hosayo or kotomine performance isn't still cream of the crop
you aren't the same anon that said their default emotion was anger are you?
more so. only good performance was krul's VA and celes'
Antimagic threads were decent only because no one cared for the show.
Asterisk threads were only bad because of Rakudaifags shitposting.
Never really been to Rakudai threads, but I assume they're similar to Asterisk threads, with Antimagic hijacking and all.
If anything, Antimagic has the worst fanbase, thinking that the series and the fanbase are superior when they're just as shitty as any other harem show/fanbase.
Not him but
>No one cared for the show
That doesn't seem to be the case
>Asterisk threads were only bad because of Rakudaifags shitposting.
And because no one actually talked about the series in there since not too many things happened worth discussing.
Rakudai threads actually suffered as much as Asterisk threads with Shizuku vs Stella. But that entire season was practically Stella vs everything
Best thing out of Asterisk S1
She is a demon and a degenerate, not your waifu.
I hope we'll be talking more about anal sex in upcoming Asterisk/Hundred threads.
Don't worry anon, I'll share half her burden! We'll have lots of cute babies together.
I want to cum inside
Oh wow. You know, sometimes it's such a damn shame that nobody ever does hentai with story. Like, imagine bahamut or something, but the MC actually rails his chosen girl on-screen. After the romance developed to that point, of course. And then they go and have some more adventures together. And then fuck some more.
You could probably even compartmentalize the sex into OVA-style interludes which would not impact "clean", TV-broadcastable continuity.
>Now that the dust has somewhat settled, can we agree that all three shows had some strong and some weak points, agree that all three can be fun, and finally get along?
yet chivilry wasn't a harem.
name 3 or more girls after ikki's cock. you can't because there wasn't. there was Stella and imouto. That is a LOVE TRIANGLE. furthermore, the MC choses the Girl in episode 4. and they remain a monogamous couple the rest of the way.
>I don't think I've read a better battle harem LN than Antimagic tbqh.
Say stuff like that people definitely think it's some overrated shit
But I can't deny it's highly entertaining
Now I imagine a battle harem series where this thing is literally true. Female touch leaves horrible gashes and aggravated burns on the MC, as long as it's not reciprocal love.
I sometimes wonder what would such a series be like if /a/ co-wrote it, as a gestalt entity.
Russian /a/ wrote a LN once, but it never went past v1. Was a SoL thing about cute robot meidos doing cute robot meido things.
I wanted to mention that, but I thought that people would go
>muh Rakudai not harem fanboys
and basically have an adverse reaction polarly opposite to what you said. I guess one just can't win at trying to peacefully coexist sometimes.
Also doesn't the dojo owner's daughter lust after him? I thought she did.
>yfw you main Haunted
anti-magic fags and asterisk fags are perfectly capable of co-existing as seen last season. even some rakudai fags can too, just not the ones who think it isn't a harem and is better by default, even when it's plot is as bare bones as it gets
Can't imagine how fun that would be
>tfw literally who director is haunted
>tfw you get to experience first-hand despair from a shitty adaptation and krytyk pussying out as the series was reaching its climax
"muh i can't break the law by pirating anymore now that they're watching."
god i that hypocritical bullshit these trans keep pulling. fuckers need to learn how host shit off US servers
Kyouya would be great, specially since you would have to rush down to beat the opponent's fast once you start using Nero's full poison to boost Kyouya and his HP starts dropping like nothing.
Kiseki is the cutest and the semenest!
What confuses me is that he said he might be willing to translate it himself for practice and to share amongst family and friends.
Which goes against his previous justification of not wanting to go against the wishes of the rights-holder (not that they actually explicitly expressed those wishes) because he'd still be distributing translations in some form.
To add to this, harem MCs are usually very static characters. I see that being a consequence of some kind of inner virtue or strength. MC sees a naked girl and freezes. He blue-screens. Why? Because he is so unlikely do have done that on purpose that he doesn't even remember to run away. He is worthy to have those girls because he will choose not to take advantage of them.
I think it works fine, but two of these guys would show off how boring they really are.
I wouldn't consider Steins;Gate as a harem.
I mean some of the relationships between the characters can be romantic but it's mostly friendships that they work on throughout the series.
In the year 2122, humanity has entered a new age of peace.
National disputes of the old, once solved through violence, are now determined through battles between "SPers" (pronounced espers), utilizing full-dive virtual reality technology to enter the global network system known as the "Fourth Concept Hardware Actualized Network" to fight in virtual representative matches with weapons created from their words, "Materialized Electronic Message Entities".
MC, a student at the SPer Candidacy Academy, is known as "For Another Generation" due being unable to use anything but the most outdated Materialized Electronic Message Entities. However, his life is irrevocably changed one day when the heroine, one of the school's elite "Named Ones", challenges him to a match with her pride on the line.
Don't you know, if you burst cancel 4 frames into the Nuke Sword, you can do a second one if you are fast enough. They will totally patch it out next game, but it's why God-Hunter is banned from competitive play.
why are anime girls so cute when they're eating?
either way, guess it's time to highjack this thread
I think that's debatable, but Julis is continuing her awesome streak this season. Since she will have more development than Ouka now, it's inevitable she will end up better.
>no Ouka and LM animated
>several threads won't be derailed with "Ouka was right/wrong" debate
What does /a/ think is the most generic battle harem?
My vote is Absolute Duo
>Also doesn't the dojo owner's daughter lust after him? I thought she did.
never happened. somehow i think people forget she stabbed him in the back and tried her hardest to cheat her way through their fight. their relationship was never boy girl, but student teacher, only her father shipped them
No, no, we can't. We must combine ALL Battle Harem shows together into a blender in order to create the ULTIMATE BATTLE HAREM.
The problem is coming up with a Gary Stu MC that is bland enough to handle it.
Absolute duo had the potential to be great. If you have a harem lead as good as Julis and none of the other members even come close then you shouldn't make it a harem. Completely ruined it.
The other Asterisk harem members are great, though, they're just not great harem members. And they don't even lust after MC much anymore. Kirin and Saya got their own special episode.
>only her father shiped them
>her getting wet during their training sessions
ikki didn't give a shit that she cheated because muh she's a good person at heart.
So we've had the straight MC, and the pervy MC, what's next?
Can we have a double-reverse trap MC?
How about a MC that doesn't want the harem or doesn't want anything to do with anyone? Like gives no fucks about the harem's or the world's problem but the girls still keep trying to persuade him into liking him?
>Can anyone offer an explanation as to why, by the way?
It's harder to make a story like that that doesn't suck. I know that most battle harems still end up sucking, but I think that's why authors still write them. It's easy and it sells.
Even if we go only by the anime, Ouka's arc that takes her from a crazy maverick that only wants to kill heretics and has her grow into someone who is willing to give a fair trial even to witches and wants to protect her friends while still wanting revenge is way better than what Julis had in S1.
So 8-man with a real attitude?
That's radical anon. I've been writing just that story. Except the trap was a girl pretending to be a boy, so he ended up not loving her after all.
Having more depth isn't everything. Besides, Julis' depth is solid enough as it is now. Flora just showed up in the anime so the next few episodes is going to explore more of Julis' depth anyways. You'll see sides to her she hasn't shown before on top of a better understanding of where she is coming from with her noble goals.
Basara must be telling those losers how it feels to have both a harem and a God tier nurse as a sex slave.
If you want to go with muh better source shit, it was actually because training to be soldiers means not getting that kind of benefit in actual combat.
>"In the first place, there is nothing just about an enemy, nor anything fair about combat. As student knight, that is par for the course in our battles. [...] We only need to defeat the enemy in front of us."
>Ikki was very aware of this. That was why he had not exposed Ayase Ayatsuji's rule-breaking in order to win by forfeit, or criticize her for cowardice when they had fought, even though as a friend he lamented her actions. He disdained foul play, but neither did he reject it per se, and thus would not ask for fairness from an opponent. He was not a sportsman. He was a warrior.
it's out there somewhere
My vote is for Arata as best harem MC
There was Bahamut and Luck&Logic the latter of which I'm not entirely sure was a battle harem or not.
Bahamut had cute girls and a cute MC at least. Leagues better than Hundred.
The majority of main girls turn out to be shit or just boring.
I support this.
>implying this isn't the best hundred already
Rakudai had some cool fights, an Antimagic had a good chemistry between the characters, even between the harem members.
Asterisk was bland from the beginning to the end of the first cour.
